Orange County Choppers Fires Back at Jay Leno 😲

- It's a clash of two TV legends as Jay Leno recently called his custom Orange County Chopper "junk" after the bike experienced an electrical problem and a breakdown on a California Highway many years ago. We caught up with Orange County Choppers frontman Paul Teutul Sr. to get his response to Jay Leno's criticism of his famous motorcycles. Jay Leno says he was never a fan of choppers because he doesn't understand the concept of making it slower will less braking power and control. OCC's Paul Teutul Sr argues that he rides his chopper all over and it's not a riding style for everyone. Paul Teutul Sr. also talks about Orange County Choppers' many appearances on the Tonight Show and how he feels the true reason for the for Leno calling out his bike could be that he appeared on Dave Letterman's Tonight Show twice as much. We also ask the 75-year-old Orange County Chopper star what he's doing now, how he likes living in Florida and what's up next for the OCC Brand.

100Correct, OCC bikes are horrible.
I was a huge American Chopper fan. I never owned an OCC, but I knew a few people that did. I rode 2 and they were definitely choppers. They were brutal to ride. They used the best components and they were all POS's that were constantly broken down. Electrical problems were reoccurring and bad welds were proof that they were OCC.
Such a huge problem with custom bikes and rigs in general, the people who build this category of things rarely know how to correctly wire their shit and that's like 60% of what breaks on them.
A few points here.
Old mate trying to talk his way out of the electrical issue was pathetic.
And the fact that he thinks that using all quality components will make up for poor design is scary and shows the real problem.
As for the 35° angle thing....as soon as you change the height of the front or the back it will change the required angle. Once again, scary that he appears not to know this.
As for the interviewer, he knows old mate is full of shit, but he is too weak to call it out. Instead he tries to make it sound like Jay has the sour grapes. I doubt Jay will give him another interview 😅

Exactly! Truth you have spoken
I worked at Sikorsky Helicopters in Stratford, CT at the time they built their bike for Sikorsky. It didn't even make it across the ramp without breaking down. They had to reshoot the scene of him riding it across the ramp like 4 times so they could finally get a shot him getting it to the viewing stand. The whole plant was out there to see it, and we were laughing the whole time because of how crap that bike was. I think the CEO knew then that he'd made a mistake in buying that bike for like $250k, and the bike ran like shit. They put it in a display box in the plants cafeteria and people would just look at it and laugh, then muse out loud, "And they wonder why we go on strike when they say that can't pay us but they can buy a piece of crap like this."

@spartanx169x A lot of these builders were using Revjunk(Revtech) motor in the 2000s. Motors were junk. I had 3 friends that blew out the lower end on these motors. They were manufactured in Korea. There were a lot cheaper in price then the S&S. You get what you pay for.
I never heard Paul Sr. stutter so much in an interview as much as he did on this one. Jay Lino is the one I trust and it's about time someone stood up and spoke the truth about Orange County chumpers... PS and oh yeah Cycle Drag is two-faced!
About Cycle Drag, yes. After the interview with Leno, laughing it up, the way he acts here is almost like that “I’m telling!” kid in elementary school.
well on the show they were fed the lines.....
Jay was right. The bikes are knickknacks, not legit motorcycles.
They built bikes for people who don’t know anything about bikes, just to push them around at events
Did he call him Paul puttel ?
And Leno isn't the only one who said that the bike from OCC are junk.
Oh Correction it's Paul Puttel Sr. 😂
Survey says: Leno for the win!
survey says: your moms a man🤣😂
Yes, but bandwagon riders are trash.
Because something is "stock" doesn't mean the geometry is correct, when it is in a "non-stock" build
Jay still has his chopper because he can't even give it away.
Instead of offering excuses, why didn't Señor look at the camera and offer an apology and say, "I'll make it right. I'll fly out with a team and fix it for you." Stand by your work. That's all he had to do.
Great point. I would have a lot of respect for that response.
Absolutely what sr should have said and he might in the future, it would def benefit him in the long run.
he woyld probably have to buy the bike back
Fly out a team to fix a chopper that was built probably 20 years ago?
@@Will97675maybe wire it so of the taillight goes out the entire bike doesn’t lose power perhaps? Ever wired anything before? That’s a hack design and far from “custom” quality..
Jay isn’t the only one who said the bikes are crap. So there’s that
Im from Westchester county NY and I have a friend that bought a 0CC chopper it's a total pile of junk. He can't even sell it.
I trust Jay Leno's opinion. He's an honest man with decades of mechanical experience. He also doesn’t have private interest to sell motorcycles.
Jay Leno is one righteous dude, man! OCC bikes are garage queens, made to look at and not ridden. They are just really expensive boat anchors!
I'm disappointed that you seemed to set up Leno knowing Sr was waiting in the wings to respond. Jay Leno is the only class act in this.
The guy can't put together a coherent sentence much less build a chopper that's worth having.
Jay wasn't being facetious. He was being honest.
I stand in Paul Seniors corner 8 days a week. Everybody wants to take potshots at OCC because they trail blazed massive success for many seasons, and most keyboard warriors watched every episode…. He made Jay a custom bike; was he planning to ride it to Sturgis or Daytona, or around Beverly Hills and park it in his Museum? Always noticed Leno reading scripted cue cards every show. Letterman was the real deal.
At least we know Jack will never hear from or speak to Jay ever again.
yeah, talk about trying to burn bridges for a quick buck. "oh it went viral better stir some shit up for views!" Shit stirrers always get it eventually.
Jay has obviously ridden and driven lots of vehicles over the years, which makes him qualified to make judgement on a chopper that handles like a dog.
Don't all choppers handle like dogs.
@@f3aok yea, but with those springer front ends going down the long long LONG roads in, say the Wyoming desert, they do look pretty cool. The Twisties?...not so much
What an instigator. You enjoying yourself with this. I would never let you into my space.
This guy is worse than a kid running to tell Paul that jay talked about your junky shit !
I bet he has probably not got enough ass to ride a OCC death trap a hundred miles
Just using the best components doesn't necessarily make it the best bike. I've seen many times where people use high-end components but don't do their homework. Jay Leno is 100% correct. Best parts in the world don't mean squat if you don't use them properly
Teutul's are a perfect fit for pro wrestling
I'd love to see that..!
Wrestlers have talent.
O.C.C. was a gimmick company with a business plan mainly geared to sell merchandising through a partially scripted, far from “reality” TV show. We saw plenty of their bikes for sale / on display at Daytona and I concur with Jay. It’s also hilarious that almost none of the top Custom Bike Builders (Ness, Nazi, J.J., Matt H., Yaffe, Trotta, Bourget, etc.) spawned from that era had anything different to say about the “Cake Decorators” from OCC. Fortunately the NY court records he left behind are public and I’ve read some of them. Bottom line, based on some of the shady business moves made to protect / transfer assets from his other companies with the Bankruptcies, I wouldn’t trust Toothole Sr. at his word for much of anything.
It was for MONEY LAUNDERING and helping peopel with TAX EVASION. The bikes themselves were of little value except as write-offs and corporate grift, along with a few boomers who got taken for a rough hardtail ride with no front brakes.
Jay was right. Many stories about these bikes being junk.
He didnt tell u why the fuckin electrical on the bike was connected all to the tail light... thats someone playing with wires that should not be anywhere near electrical
Jay isnt the first person to say this, just look at the bikes, they are not built for handling. They are built for looks, strange looks.
No choppers are built to handle.
Fabrication techniques are third rate at best. Never saw a thread gage, welding NDI, heat affected zone weakness... can go on and on.
Got that right!
and all their stuff went to " paint" which actually meant the bodyshop wood fill it up with bondo to make it look ok then paint it.
Don't single out Leno, there are plenty OCC chopper owners with videos on CZcams stating these bikes are frauds and utter garbage.
A 12=yr old could tell that their bikes are not safe, built like crap, wayyyyy toooo many welds. Thank god that fad is over AMEN
OCC's choppers were realistically nothing more than 'museum' pieces'.
If by 'museum' you mean 'junk yard' I agree.
If you didn't build it you shouldn't be riding it!... This is the new Millennium of what we would call back in the day 'Sidewalk Bikie's' You know the type, they got the boots & jeans, leather jacket and cut with all the patches, cap & chain drive wallet, mab'be a 'Don't Fuck With Me' bracelet walking up and down Main St during BikeWeek dreaming of getting a Harley some day (or the basketcase in the basement never gets that 1 important part to put it back together) Then Harley started in house financing the bikes... it's been crap ever since.
Most museums of any type have very little display area. If you donated an OCC chopper to a museum it would just be auction off.
Damn dude. i think its pretty shitty of you to try tp pit these two icons against each other....Occ bikes are shit everybody know it. Jay was expressing his personal view and to run to Paul and get a reaction against Jay is just shit..... I think your channel is better than that......Maybe not?
Jay wasn’t trying to be funny. They built him the bike he asked for. I have no idea why someone would want a replica of a bike they already owned. Jay simply did it to have the Teutels on the show. Jay doesn’t own anything even remotely similar to the types of bikes that OCC built. I usually disagree with almost everything Paul Sr. says, but I have to agree when he says “ why would someone complain over 20 years later “.
What’s up with sunglasses ? Way to cool for me.... don’t miss him at all.....
When you go from street bikes to choppers, they never ride the same. But to be fair, everyone who owns an OCC bike has never been happy with the reliability.
Your stuttering Paul, it broke because of a faulty electrical design , free or not honest criticism is honest criticism.
I wouldn't believe a single word that comes out of Paul's mouth.
Jay is right in all honesty. Choppers are not meant to ride, and if you do ride one, you are pretty damn crazy and dont give a shit about the ride or your back. The geometry is all wrong with a chopper. All you have to do is look at the front end and really try to figure out how it works when you hit a bump. A normal suspension is supposed to go up and down when you hit a bump, well when the front end is stretched, it cant do that. The only thing it can do is flex, not compress. So, yes, Jay Leno is 100% spot on. You are an absolute lunatic if you attempt to ride one across the nation, let alone across the bar.
"had a short in the taillight" NO SIR, he said the entire system was FUSED OFF THE BULB(absolutely insane as a builder). "harely has the same rake..." yes, out of the 40+ points of suspension and frame geometry that is precisely the ONLY ONE you didn't change Paul....
Jay's complaint about the tail light was that everything ran through the tail light, so if it blew the bike would shut down. Very common for tail lights blowing on any real chopper, so it probably did happen to jay
A light bulb with a filament in it, no leds, on a bike that will jackhammer your ass into your shoulders. It'll never blow out right? Makes sense to put mission critical wiring right there.
@@SoberAddictionI taste a little irony in your comment, am I right?
If you have a tail light go bad on your car does it shoot the entire electrical system down? I think you missed the issue, that’s hack electrical work sir..
@@coreynash7371 I think the TV-seres of OCC was their financial backbone. They were just a bunch third-rank actors.
@@EricLaermansthey’re going to parade around these heart string theme bikes selling t-shirts and autographs to limited minded people for a long they can.
I’m not a chopper guy but Paul said it best, they’re not for everybody. I have never ridden anything but cafe bikes I’ve built myself. From day one. I can’t ride cruisers, because like I said, from day one I’ve been on rearsets, and low clip-ons. I offer for others to ride my bikes all the time, even if they’re seasoned riders, they’re like fish out of water. Everyone has their favorite….. one last thing… Harley guys, get off your high horse and give some credit to the British and Japanese bike guys. Grom riders are a little weird, but After all, in every generation of production bikes, Japanese bikes have always been king.😏
Jay Leno still has the bike because nobody will give him anything for it.
