From winning the World Cup, Champions League, Ligue 1, Serie A, Europa League and the FA Cup, Olivier Giroud isn’t talked about nearly enough. He’s had a successful career and has been playing at an elite level for so long. He’s been a vital player for club and country as he has a good scoring record: the top scorer of all time in the history of the France national team and has had immense longevity at club level too. He won Ligue 1 with Montpelier of all teams and the Golden Boot, He did very well at Arsenal even if he came under criticism for not always scoring enough, he had 2 and a half very good seasons at Chelsea won the Champions League and at AC Milan he won a Serie A title and was pivotal to their champions league semifinal run last season and this season in the league alone he has what 12 goals and 8 assists and he’s one of those players who’s a bit of a late bloomer in a sense that as he’s aged, he’s gotten better. Age is just another number for Olivier Giroud.
He is a perfect target man, someone who’s elite at positioning holding the ball up aerial duels winning possession in the air combined with his finishing ability heading and being able to sacrifice individual brilliance for the greater good of the team. Top players like Alexis Sanchez Mesut Ozil Kylian Mbappe Antoine Griezmann Paul Pogba Eden Hazard and recently Rafael Leao have benefited from his presence up top and he’s a very good teammate to have in the team even if his game isn’t the flashiest and isn’t always dominant on the stat sheet as his numbers are good but his overall play is what also catches the eye. Going into the 2018 World Cup on paper a front 3 of Mbappe Griezmann and Dembele looked good, it was great that Didier Deschamps had the tactical awareness to know that Giroud was the missing piece for them in attack and many fans were wondering why he was starting for the France national team as during that time, Karim Benzema was exiled due to off the field issues and we know he’s an elite striker, the thing with Giroud is that his presence brought out the best in Mbappe Griezmann and Pogba and as a result of it, they all thrived and France won the World Cup. He didn’t score a single goal but beyond the stats, he provided value to the team and sometimes that doesn’t get appreciated enough and I don’t blame people, sometimes you have to watch football in order to value a player’s impact beyond the stat sheet. He remained underrated as we all were talking about Kylian Mbappe Antoine Griezmann Paul Pogba and even N’Golo Kante. There’s an argument that he’s a bit fortunate that Karim Benzema was banned from international football for 6 years, he took his opportunity in being their main striker and has the most goals of all time for the national team yet had a significant contribution to their World Cup win without scoring a goal. He also has that tendency of scoring big goals showing up for his team in high profile moments and even at the age of 37, it’s amazing to me that Olivier Giroud is still scoring goals. The success longevity accolades etc without being the main man on a team, he excelled and was the perfect example of being an unsung hero where he was able to thrive while also having success by sacrificing individual brilliance for the greater good of the team and without having crazy stats, we all saw what he was capable of doing.

Great video as always ! People often talk about the Mbappes or the Messis of this world but they forget that there are countless support acts behind them. The likes of Giroud, Griezmann, Rakitic,Pedro will forever remain underrated yet special. For these guys their hardwork and grit is what makes them great.

I dont blame fans for complaining about the goalless run but they only complain when they lose the game due to lack of attacking prowess.

Well for players like haaland should be criticized because haaland is man city's main source of goals so not scoring in semi finals and finals of ucl last season was critical.
