- Welcome to Black Opal Direct,
This opal is a nobby from the Allawah Opal Fields that came to me as a rub with one side showing magical color and the other... a challenge.
How do I get the best gem without losing color?
Is the middle color bar worth the risk?
Let's give it a crack!

Mr Justin, I've been a rock hound since childhood and was never given the opportunity to nor did i ever take the opportunity, to pursue a life in your field, your passion, so to speak. I have a business, small engine repair. Watching you and living vicariously, through your experiences, have rekindled that fire that used to be there. I have kinda serious ADHD, I don't take medication, rarely take aspirin. It's very hard for me to focus on a social media platform, or any subject for any length of time. Maybe a week, and I'll move on to something else. Your videos, your voice, the way that you teach and present yourself, and your knowledge is very impressive. You have gained a fan, a friend for life. One day, I would very much like to come visit. Thank you, from Asheville, NC. And thank you for helping calm my mind, while rekindling something that has been missing for years. Happy cutting!!
I don't even know how the CZcams algorithm took me to you, but here I am sitting, watching the 5th video in a row, just staring at the screen in pure awe.
It takes a real artist to see and free the beauty hidden in those raw stones.
Hahah thank you for watching
Same here, my 10th-ish
Have a nice night!
It's so true, the magic Justin creates with opal and the wheel is amazing to watch.
hOW i fOUND THIS pAGE AS weLL...
It's the magic that Justin brings out of the Opals that keeps me here ! I'm not disappointed with any of his work !
the blue and green side is my favorite, but this would be an amazing 2-sided pendant because each side is so unique with a completely different color and pattern.
That opal would be really nice just with a band of gold around edge as a reversible pendant. Love watching, keep up with the good work
I was thinking the same..
I thought the same thing
I personally love the odd shapes, I bought my wife a small pendant years ago and what drew me to it was its irregular triangular shape.
For me its often that unique shape that grabs my attention and makes the gem even more unique than just its pattern and colour adding another level to it.
Same for me, I want pieces that are unique like that so I know for sure no ones going to be wearing the same thing when I step out wearing it.
Totally agree.
For some reason I love the double-sided crystal opals in your own collection. There's something special about not having a blind side
So 2 minutes in I'd say leave that beautiful top as a solo stone and cut it to leave potch with it and make a double sided stone with the other 2 color bars. Or vice versa leave 2 different types of color on one stone.
Agreed completely
Same here! :-)
Why didn’t he?
Wonderfull video Broo 👌👍🙏🥀🌷🌹🇲🇨💞
@@lananhdo4512 it would be too thin if he did
As a pendant one could reverse it for 2 stones in one!
Thank you !
Yeeessss!!! It's a Goddess stone!!!
Yes is nice am want buy nice quality stone for pandant
I thought it could become a pendant and the opal could swivel.
That's exactely what I was thinking..
I never leave this channel without a smile on my face. :) Congrats Justin, Melinda and the rest of the Black Opal Direct fam on reaching 100k subs you deserve it and so much more. :)
Thank you Chad
@@blackopaldirect 190K subs now 17/07/2022. WooHoo 🙌
Love how you explained your thinking that went into cutting the triangle off...really making me want to pick this up as a hobby
I was mesmerized with the dazzling dance of all the colors. Such a beautiful piece, you did a phenomenal job of bring out everything this opal wanted to show.
How ever you cut them, I am just glad you take us along to show the amazing stones nature provides and your experience exposes.
Totally speechless.. wow, the choice is insane! Double sided stone with different colours and patterns😍
I've been waiting patiently for this video!
Awesome, group dance! I’m dancing along! So happy for you!
You are all great dancers! Thank you for posting. I find your videos very focusing and calming.
Congrats on 100k!!!
And you've made the unique piece I was hoping for! Cheers from Switzerland!
Wow you guys just make me fall in love of this stones. As a Mexican a grow up on a small comunity back there, where they found “fire opals” but I never hear about all this beautiful colours. Keep making videos because here I am enjoying them thank you so much.
Love this video Justin!! Can't wait for the next one. Cheers mate 👍👍👍
thats so cool that you guys all get along in the business. you advertised for someone else just being an honest and decent person talking about your differences in taste. good people do that.
both opals came wonderful. i had a feeling going to the second layer would be not as good.
great job! look forward to the next awesome opal.
Both of these gems are so stunning it takes my breathe away. The smaller stone between the two is my favorite actually color wise. Someday when I can afford it I want to have a ring made with a stone of that quality. I can dream (: lol. Love your channel and brings life to me. Truly a beautiful channel and beautiful work. Take care love ya all!
Love watching your shows. I'm so mezmorized by the black opal. Thanks for your knowledge
I love your work!! You make it look beautiful. Thanks for sharing
I nearly died when I saw those jars on the shelf😲
My life for a jar of opal rough!! Lol
Love learning from you Justin, keep bringing it on👍
This is probably one of my favourite gems I've seen on this channel the 2 years I've been following you guys, so bizarre how parallel the colour bars are!
May I suggest? Find one for sale and buy it. They are much more beautiful in person! I’ve now got 4.
@@obieobrien5883 I buy small parcels and rub out small stones by hand, but I don't really spend more than a few hundred pounds(£1=2$AUS) but for that price it's just a slight plays of colour but 80% potch, maybe 1 stone every few parcels is nice when finished and polished.
I have learned so much from Justin. I cant get enough of his videos. Thank you Justin much appreciated!!!!
Gorgeous opal. Love the celebration dance.
Beautiful opal i jus got a few crystal opals my daughter loves them she still talks about urs an ur script pattern opal but keep up the good work. From Allen an my daughter silas from texas
Gorgeousness! Don't worry about others opinions, take them with a grain of salt. you are a master at your craft!
Yes I do but I also listen and take in criticism to grow more
Magnificent pieces you’ve made come to life. An incredible job Justin. You sir are the Master.
Amazing gem. Always amazing to watch you work on such beautiful opal.
You’re definitely “a tonic” for the COVID nights Justin!
I’m sure my wife thinks I’m checking out a *naughty* site !
Naughtyopals
You ARE!!
@@flyingcheff , nope !
It’s Opal’s & Justin that’s putting the smile on my dial ! 😂😂😂👍🏻
Lol. Glad you are here. It is in our dna to be good and not naughty, not reverse as some scholars state, for most know who are creator is. . We can do it! Yeah!!!!
(Spell check_Our creator) spell check making me seem as I can not spell again. Thanks spell check!
So beautiful! 😭❤️✨
Could you slice the larger stone between the middle bar and the colourful side and make a double sided green/blue stone? 😊
that is what i was wondering too?!
What a gorgeous piece!! Awesome video!!
I’ve been watching your channel for a long time. It’s been great to see you guys step up the production value recently! The videos just keep getting better! Congrats on 100k!!! You’ve earned it!
One of my favorite opals of yours. So glad you didn’t go for the second bar.
Well, the one bar is very thick. Keep that as the backing for that side. Then create a double sided gem from the other half, leaving the gray potch in the middle.
It's so nice watching those beautiful Opals come to life! Awesome stones!
Hiya Justin, you make it look so easy, it's like watching a artist painting a work of art. It's a awesome beauty, and you make us laugh.
I hope you have a awesome blessed day mate. Cheers! Cya!
For people who think diamonds are the best you have no taste!
Great video Justin! I was holding my breathe at many parts haha
Wow Dylan, fancy seeing you here.
Black Forest Wood co and Black Opal Direct are funnily enough my favourite 2 channels on YT!
Hopefully a collab in the works 🙌
(Opal inlays on a river table sounds pretty amazing)
I nearly cried watching you cut triangle 🔺️ off the stone
Amazingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Love you channel , and your expertise and knowledge with getting Beautiful opal to reveal it”s beauty from raw to brilliant opal .
my inner Gollem is happy now! how precioussss
😂😂😂😂
Beautiful gem :) Liked before watching, because it's always quality content.
Love the opals! Also love the celebration dance. 😁💕
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and beautiful opals with us all.
Thanks so much 😊
Always enjoy your music taste … very nice … Love watching you work. A wonderful thing following your father. 🌞
Ugh don't cut it! Lol it was such a beautiful hefty piece.
"The trifel" what a beautiful stone.
GLORIOUS stone!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Congratulations on your subscriber count!!
My daughter joined in with your Happy Dance!-And a Big Thank You for keeping us all enchanted with your videos, during the lock-downs!
My girl isnt able to go to school,or play with her friends, due to a problem with her immune system, shes really bright,so gets a bit bored and frustrated...
However, shes been binge-watching your uploads, and planning a career in designing and making jewellery, and is totally in love with Opals!!
She is certain that you are the 'Best in the Business!'Im inclined to agree with her!
Much love from the UK. ..XxX...
Dance away Justin, You deserve it. I thought you were going to go for the middle colour bar also. Dame Agatha Christie, I am afraid, he is more fun. At least, at our age.
Make it a reversible heart placed in a necklace pendant
Hey Justin
Is it possible to cut longitudinally, between the layers? Is there a saw that thin available to you? Great work as always. Cheers!
0:39"I need to have a look at those 🤔Curiosity is killing me." Now I'm MORE curious about successfully cutting the stone longitudinally than the original curiosity of what color was underneath. I'm guessing the value of the two pieces separately are worth more than it sandwiched as it is now.
Yes, this turned out so well! This Oregonian loves Australian opal and their dancers!
Yeah 100K.. way to go. 😁😍 working through all of your videos now. Have watched every season of Outback Opal Hunters, so watching your videos completes the story. 😁 Thank you for giving us such a wonderful insight into these fascinating gems.
That is some very nice words. I thank you Kimberley. ❤️
to think this was just hiding in a lump of stone in the ground!
I could easily imagine a pair of earrings out of the triangle to complement the big oval in a pendant. Or a triangle pendant for everyday/ casual dress then bring out the big oval for events.
Thanks for another awesome video Justin, your opal videos are the best on CZcams, I look foward to every single video 🙂
Thank you
This channel makes me so happy!
Cut a groove around the edge and mount with a fat gold wire so it doesn’t cover any of the Opal’s color
That would make it seem as if the piece was two different stones glued together. But I like the idea!
I certainly thought a double sided pendant would be twice the value.
Great detective work on that second bar! Great gem and great video!
I was so excited to watch this! This will make a gorgeous pendent! I love watching your thought process as you cut, it’s so so exciting to see where a piece will end up especially when you think it will go one way and it goes another.
*happy dance for 100K*
I've been in a funk since the elections here in the U.S. I am laughing so hard. You all made my day. Happy 100,000. That is a lot of zeros!!!!! Mark
My aunt had very thin blades when she cut opals like this one.
I’ve just found you in my feed & I’m so pleased. What an awesome Opal. It must be wonderful to work with such beauty. I’ve just subscribed & will be catching up on all of your videos.
I loved the intro with all of you dancing!
It never seems that God couldake such a beautiful stone you just improve on his creation , God bless you and yours
The real art would be to make them affordable so everone can buy them.
Justin, you made the right decision again , beautiful stone with two sides . Love it !
Congratulations Justin, and family. Do the dance...Oh YA dance on. Yaaa 100k Yaa 😁😁👍❤
