  • Welcome to Black Opal Direct!
Buying rough opal is a risk that doesn't always pay off, but when it does, that's the stuff that keeps us opal-holics coming back!
How do you know if the rough opal you're investing in will be worth it? Short answer... you don't. But there are a few things you can look out for.
Let me show you how I deal with the risk of buying rough opal.
Did I just waste $800 big ones? Would I have been better off buying $800 worth of fish tacos? Stay tuned to find out...

@@blackopaldirect I inherited some Ethiopian opals and became very fascinated with your channel. There’s some nice size pieces and I am learning about pricing them how do you determine how much you pay for a raw gem like the ones you show on your channel? I don’t have the equipment to turn them into something beautiful but would love to get them into your hands. Thanks in advance for any info leading into the right direction

Top videos Justin, thanks for sharing.
Just cut my first opal a few days ago after a friend left some rough with me. Followed your hand cutting video and am happy with the first time results.
    Cheers again.

I honestly believe this stone is worth at least $1500.Why...because out of the stones that I see you have for sale these colors are BY FAR the best color contrast that I personally have seen.
Yes it might not be the blackest or the biggest but I would say,"This little beauty packs a powerful punch !"
Also in regards to your comment about the World.
Thank you for your contribution to producing great quality videos for us as a whole to get away from the problems of the World.
I know in my job working on an offshore fishing charter boat I enjoy the peace of the ocean probably as much as you enjoy cutting and polishing beautiful gem quality stones.
Truly a great talent passed on from your father !
Thank you for you time you spend with us !

Thank you for sharing your wisdom brother.
As I watch you at work, even though I have never polished a stone, I am experienced in bringing a grain out in wood and understand stones from a healers perspective...30 plus years... thinking of investing in a set of polishing wheels because I sense how to do it.
