Justin, love your work, can you tell me why you don't work on some of the trickier sand bits, with hand tools? as i watch you trim away so much of the stone - do you ever just leave pieces as specimens?

The tiny opal I have is blue green with tiny bits of yellow which is my favorite a true black opal I guess.

Looks like you need to balance your wheel. On my grinder I've used Self-Aligning Spherical Washers which balanced my grinder's wheel when I was totally stumped.

Have u thought about selling them to trax nyc he was paying $750 US a ct for rubbish opal, u will get easily $1200 US a ct for that quality maybe even more for the whole set

It's through Discovery I learned about opal. It's more beautiful than ruby, emerald or a sapphire imo, sometimes more like (parts of) a rainbow caught in stone. These beautiful stones will look gorgeous on my future better half. I usually prefer the color blue but those black opal stones with those deep red colors, wow...

How close do your estimates usually come to what you get for the stones? I'm still trying to get used to how much loss there is. It's almost impossible to imagine making a profit from cutting when you're paying $6,000 and only getting a third of the size after it's cut. I want to know how to end up with more stone than I started with, to have a proper chance at making the profit.

My horror, people who facet opals have a special place in Opal hell, it's like when you're sitting there enjoying your tea listening to your favorite track and then someone starts listening to something else on the phone next to you, it's like body-painting over tattoos.

Do you think anyone will make a computer that will cut gems ? I mean the things are replacing surgeons for basic operations ( scary as hell ) and are making complicated decisions as such .

I don't know how u do this with out grinding the tops of your fingers off, especially on the small to tiny stones.
