- Welcome to BOD Opal School!
This week, join Justin as he navigates his way around a beautiful Red Bar Rough Opal.
He has been sitting on this one for a while as he figures out the best way to approach the cut.
Once he goes in and starts to expose the gem, that's when we start to hit a few bumps in the road - but the end result will certainly surprise you!

watched this video many times now... the tension never goes away... those colors 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
"Pretty little pair" is an understatement. They are gorgeous!
This has to be one of the most beautiful knobbies that I've ever seen you cut in terms of color. It's almost heartbreaking to have to watch you cut it. But it was a real joy to watch the color be revealed. It always gives me a little shiver and really gets my treasure hunting spidey sense working overtime. Lol. Thanks for the lovely experience. 💙
Thank you 😊
@@blackopaldirect That pair turned out beautifully though...💙

Antonmursid🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✌💝👌🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬✌💝👌🙏
I love the multiple simultaneous cameras.
Could be two-sided or 2 separate stones.
Justin, you have got to have nerves of steel. My hands would be shaking so badly doing this...lol
The nicest thing about reality is the anticipation. The outcome was not as hoped for but a pair of matching gems is rare and almost as satisfying. The book has been read. Now off to the library to see what is to come.
Absolute magic, Dragon eyes. Some fortunate buyer is going to be thrilled with this pair! ❤️❤️
Yes they will be....stunning gems
9:43 Oh wow, so that's where the black came from! That's amazing. A little heartbreaking, sure, but amazing.
They seriously are a cracking pair, and I, as probably all of us, would love them, but I think we can all feel your disappoint at the loss of the bigger stone too xx
That’s opal lol
What
@@spacesanduniversediscovery4878 You are just as confused as I am right. But maybe they are saying it isn't a stone because it is opal lol.
Either way this is like 2 years later
That is the prettiest color I have ever seen!
You’re not only a master cutter, you’re a wise man. The way you speak of opals is a good metaphor for working with people, too.
Thanks Caren!
Is there a better word than stunning? Wow!
You have taught me so much about opal I KNEW iy was a slicer !
Haha nice 👍
I liked that cloud going through it. Then again I am an artist. But turned out to be a nice pair of earrings.
I would have never imagined over the course of my life that opal cutting on CZcams (granted I've the luxury of my HD Big Screen) could be as exciting as a James Bond cinematic thriller! Man! Beautiful! What a roller coaster Justin! Thank you! 😳🤯😱😁
Haha wow thank you
I said the very same thing...I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! What a show!
A beautiful pair of stud earrings .......... what's not to love ! Thanks Justin :-)
I love watching these gems come to light with your decision making processes Justin. Very relaxing.
Gorgeous colours on those opals. My sort of stone
That red fire is unreal, what a unique and stressful nobby! My beginner parcel from you just left Sydney. I can't wait for it to arrive in Alaska (I hope they don't mind the snow).
Sweet 🙏😊
Hi
Hope you don't mind me here, I would like to meet you Justin if you are going to Arizona in Jan or Feb for the annual shows there! So, which show will you be attending and when?? How can I get in touch w you? Greg
If you are having opal shipped to Alaska, you better keep it warm at all times . You don’t want it to craze on you. Opal and cold weather don’t mix.
@@garyhenderson7332 I had one parcel of Oregon fire opal shipped wet and it froze in the mailbox. I ended up with 100+ chips. ☹️ now I ensure everyone ships rough to me dry.
And how was the parcel
So much fun watching you transform these mysterious opals into works of art.
You do realize we're all on the edge of our seat just like you are while you're cutting. I didn't even remember to breathe until you had a matching pair getting ready to polish.
Lol
Those are magical stones!
It looks like all the colours have been put in a capsule and what a beautiful colours, WOW! This made my day a little better. Thanks!💖✨
I really enjoy watching you cut opals to reveal the beautiful colors in each knobby. This pair of opals is absolutely gorgeous.
Nothing beats Aussie opal. That nobby had me holding my breath all the way. I wanted to cry when I saw that pitch going all the way through 😭😱
The final product is a testament to your artistry Justin. Best wishes always from Perth WA xox
Absolute top gems! That color and brightness is just stunning!
Beautiful! Every stone is so unique in opal, that I’m always amazed...
GORGEOUS!! Nice save on the stone, opals with the red are my favorite! Love watching you do your magic Justin!!
Felt your pain from start to finish this time. I say well done I would never want to cut a gem with so many unknowns. But what a Bobby dazzla.
The vibrance of the one is outstanding.
Awesome work making opalade when life gives you potch. Hope you're not too far out of the money on this one
Can't stop laughing at opalade 😅
Hearing an Aussie doing a southern accent made my day! LOL Keep up the wonder videos!
Lol I tried
@@blackopaldirect You did great! I love it when we can enjoy each others differences. Hope to visit Australia again and this time take my wife! However I think I will wait for all of the madness settles down.
Man it’s a awesome day just watching you cut stones bro
Such a great result from that piece of rough, great work preserving a majority of the value regardless of the obstacle
Thank you for showing much of this fascinating process (and your thoughts and dilemmas) when you cut these fine stones! The red is so beautiful!
Amazing work Justin, beautiful set there
Thanks for sharing, Justin.
It’s a good thing you purchased that fine small torch at the Tucson Gem Show. It has given you another way to evaluate the best way to cut your opal. Love this beautiful pair of stones…they truly look as though they are on fire.
The background music while you’re cutting is epic 😂
Thank you for your time, it's always a pleasure to watch these cuts
Thanks John, appreciate it!
An oldie but goodie definitely the ins and outs of Opal cutting beautiful work and beautiful stones. Thank you for the wonderful video. May 11/2024
Glad you enjoyed it
Stunning opals. Sorry you weren’t able to have a whole one but the pair is absolutely beautiful! Love the colors in them! Thank you for sharing your expertise. 🥰
🙏😊
That opal had every rainbow colour in it, you cut a lovely pair from it Justine, they were beautiful with the red and orange. Thank you for sharing
disliking because this was the top comment and spoils the video.
even the rough opal with all the potch is absolutely gorgeous wow.. those colors are stunning
I really felt the heat on this one Justin. The most beautiful color of all that I have seen you cut. Two small master pieces ! It’s hard to amagin what could have been.
Bravo! I was on the edge of my seat. Enhanced by wonderful suspenseful music.
Thanks for sharing truthfully. I’ve just started learning to work with opals and it is very very challenging to try to actually get a raw opal to face well. You are such a fine Artist snd you have inspired me so and so many others. That is. What true Art does. So on those days when things are disappointing or you feel overwhelmed by the challenges you face remember that in sharing your triumphs snd your struggles you inspire so many out there in this mad world. May you and your loved ones all be blessed. Thank you.
Omg. I would love those two as earrings. Awsum Justin as ever. Just STUNNING.x
I’ve been bingeing your videos for quite some time now, easily over the last 2-3 years. I really just want to express my gratitude to you and my absolute love for opals and your channel.
Your videos have played a significant role in me finding my love for these gemstones. Without a doubt Australian opals are my absolute favourite gemstone in the world and I want to thank you so much for the effort you put into creating these videos for us and bringing us on the journey.
I don’t own any opal myself yet but I have recently bought a beautiful natural white opal pendant for my dear sister with blues, reds, yellows and greens in it; it’s the first opal I’ve ever seen and held in person and I couldn’t believe my eyes at the absolute beauty that comes from these stones, especially in the sunlight. I’m saving away to buy myself a nice black opal from your online store sometime in the future just so I can own my own.
Once again, thank you so much for these quality and somewhat therapeutic videos. Sorry about the long message, I just wanted to share a bit of love haha
Cheers,
Slav.
Wow thank you and you are welcome
I love when opal is so bright it shines on your fingers😁😍
You Sir have some mad skills with opals! Beautiful !
Thank you for such a lovely journey with this beautiful opal
You're welcome!
Gorgeous color! I enjoy the unpredictability of opal. Keeps me on the edge of my seat.
What awesome color. On the bright side, you made some awesome lemonade in the end.
Of all the stones I've watched you work on this is by far my favourite colour
Those turned out to be absolutely stunning 🤩
This is unreal! Perfect
Thank you for sharing your beautiful artwork.
Wow, that was exciting to watch! The colour reminded me of a smoldering fire. Really fascinating. Thank you for showing and greetings from Germany!
Oh my goodness the colours are so beautiful
You did a beautiful job on them. Amazing keep up the good work.🙏🏁
your videos never disappoint . such an amazing process . thanks for the videos. :D
Beautiful job Justin !!!
The fire in those 2 stones is beautiful. I was fortunate to be introduced to this craft in a 7th grade class.
It's crazy to think that over the years some of the most beautiful opals could have been lost just because they were cut wrong. Always happy to see a nice rough in your hands, because I know that it will cut to the most beautiful stone possible. I like to think that mother nature smiles at you each time you reveal the true inner beauty of a stone, and trusts you to work on her most beautiful creations.
Happens every day
Just beautiful!
Absolutely stunning!🤩
Unexpected, but still an absolute rippah.
I could tell you were going to have to slice it. Great stones.
Absolutely stunning pair. I wish I was the lucky receiver, these would take me forever to figure the best thing to make with them,Thanks Justin🙂
Those are absolutely gorgeous! 😍
I love your work. What a tough decision to cut it in half, but you did great
Absolutely beautiful!
That little piece of stone was waiting all those years for someone to unlock its beauty. You sir were called upon to do just that and you absolutely nailed it. What a special gem set. Those colours are insane
Doc's giving me six months tops if I don't stop watching the Opal Whisperer.
Tick tock tick tock .. The old pacemaker's taking a real battering here.
Haha sorry

My guy what a gorgeous set! Good golly those reds 😍
Sublime colour. Congratulations on the save.
I've watched enough of your videos that I knew when you faced it, and I seen that cloud through the middle....I said then. "He's gonna cut it". Awesome video. Always the best information
I love when you use cab machine you have the opal touch! Let the machine do the work slowly! Great job in all your videos. The explanations you give are great.
