  • Welcome to Black Opal Direct!
    I jumped on CZcams Live last week to cut some rough with 350 of you, as I do sometimes and had no idea what was in store.
    There I was, chatting away, grinding rough piece after piece. Content with what I was finding, I decided to cut one more... and then everything changed.
    Today, I'll polish this baby up and show you what I'm doing with this unbelievable gem.
    Read the full blog post here: blackopaldirect.com/blog/scri...
    Watch the live CZcams videos here (I get pretty hyped up)
    PART 1: • Finding and cutting op...
    PART 2: • I HAD to show you this...
    PART 3: • I did NOT expect this....

    you could always drill a fine hole straight through so you could set a diamond or something in the hole, the peg to the gem would then be attached to the backing and also serve as a way of holding the opal down. not all is lost

      @aydinsha Před 3 lety +50

      @@Jarlaxl.Baenre high quality white ones are, as are fancy colored ones. Opal isn't "rare" either, but nice ones sure are. Almost no mineral is rare if you're disregarding quality. And value wise, disregarding the cost and time it takes to go from underground ore to a gem on your jewelry.

    • @gjoejoe8046
      @gjoejoe8046 Před 3 lety +11

      Thats how he can probably make up the difference in loss, add another precious gem as a filler and it might just raise the value of the gem more so then if you are to just leave it how it is, but then again the original later on might turn out to be worth more without the additions, its kinda a gamble on whats going to happen with value of it, but for aesthetics it would be beautiful to see

    Justin, I knapped my first opal arrowhead a couple days ago.
    I told Mr pultzer about it, I'm gonna tell you about it.
    The stone did not speak to me until the third flake removal. It then revealed more blue color play right across the middle. It's Australian.
    It is a crystal with blue color play. It has blue and black potch. Lighter color tone.
    Started the size of a u.s. quarter and finished right at the size of my thumbnail.
    It's a mark of my skill as a flintnapper as I waited over a year with it for it's day.
    Turned out amazing! And now I get to carry it with the other orange jasper arrowhead on my necklace.

    Here's a thought. Inlay a piece of monocrystaline silicon of the type used to make integrated circuits. You can buy polished wafers or even chunks of it fairly inexpensively. It polishes to a dark mirror finish. It also kind of fits because opal is ultimately made of silicon.

    I built a opal mine in your area (200 million years ago, wood came from the UK), I put some really cool designs on lots, keep looking your will find one with a few faces, one being Jesus. Good luck on your hunting. P.S. Bringing land value to a land.

    Justin, a question for you! If you where to fill the hole with cystral clear resin or supa glue do you think it might reflect the pattern? A piece of gold foil in the base first might work?

    My idea: an facet stone the same colar in the sand spot. ...maybe a blue safira. ....level to the Opal. Anything that will not take the attention from the Opal!
    And you got a Gift. Enjoy!

    I'd love to see that with a white topaz set in temporarily to see how and if it reflects some of the colour. I think done right, it could look spectacular.

    I have the deepest respect for you and your skills, but this PC thing is so far out of control. There is absolutely nothing disrespectful about Chinese Writing, it has the same artful strokes as calligraphy and it is beautiful, just like this stone.

      I agree, it makes me sad to see everything renamed just because the name is offensive in SOME people's OPINION. With that going around, expect almost everything to be renamed because somebody somewhere will find something offensive about just about anything.

      100% agree. Something offensive can be manufactured from every word or phrase. Unfortunately the people with the most amount of time to get offended by something like “Chinese writing” usually have the amount of money to be buying expensive opals. So we cater to the money, because money is everything. Love the gem, loved seeing it develop but really left a bad taste in my mouth with all the pc bs. Too bad

      @@blackopaldirect Script pattern is brilliant as the gem. "Script' is friendly toward Arcane and archtypally ancient across all Ages, a as well friendly to our modern and our future. This stone 'communicates'..something..

    I think you should cut a small round piece of Fire Opal and add that to the center it would make the whole gem pop so much more. Could even inset a thin foil of Silver or Gold to catch the light underneath it and send it right back out to your eye.
    I'm no gem expert or jewelry expert in any way but I can just picture that in my mind as being so unique that nobody ever has or will in the future. ONE of a KIND! BEAUTIFUL!
