we are trying it in Greece in a sports club. The problem is as follows. 4 exercises of two minutes is equal to eight minutes adding a minute of rest you need 11 minutes. In court practice (training) 16 minutes. If we see improve to players we will inform you in less than 2 weeks
And don’t forget to do it both ways (spin right and spin left); so then minutes double. But good drill, will try it with my team also, thanks coach !

Yes it is. It will turn the ball into an egg form. If it's such a good drill, then get a cheap or dispensable ball.
What if you don't have a ball
You can use whatever ball, no need for a basketball
Buy one
Change sport
Just try to turn your body like you have it
Start from the ground or a milk crate or small bucket (something roughly ball sized), spin, pretend you have the ball for the dribble moves
