      1. Vehicle is going to make a left turn.

      3. It is safe to do so.

Keep right except to pass is the law in the US as well. the people and the police just don't know the law so they don't obey it and the police here never obey laws because they're not enforced on them.
I retired from the court system working in GA and then FL and the fact is the United States of America requires that all states follow the same rules and regulations.
You can't decide to have left hand traffic in your state or change the existing US traffic law in your area, you can only be more restrictive with your local ordinances. This is called "uniform" traffic rules and part of that is drive on the right, pass on the left return to the rightmost lane. That which all of Europe recognizes as lane discipline requires effort on the part of a driver so American drivers just refuse.
The effort an American driver offers is 'not speeding'.
      that's it.
that's all we will offer to safety, respect or diligence while driving on the roadway.
This is how my husband and I met.
He asked me to help him prove that keep right to accept to pass
      is a llegal requirement
to our traffic enforcement crowd durring one mourning briefing.
GA specific law is 40-6-40 Florida's specific law is Florida 316.086 (2) if you spend a day in traffic court you'll find that most of the tickets are written to some degree of lack of lane discipline. What this driver was cited for is unknown.

You never know when somebody is looking for the left hand turn to a county road. She got pulled over because she decided to pass a cop who was already doing atleast 5 miles over the limit, if not more. That means she had to speed up to near 10 over to pass them. That's an easy ticket with a guaranteed conviction for the cop.

LOL funny thing I've gotten over a dozen tickets in Virginia and NC in the past two years. Normally, I can pass a cop going 5-10 over but if it's a state trooper or unmarked police car, it's not worth it. State troopers are notorious for pulling people over for small shit. For example: my friend in VA got pulled over doing 56 in a 55. He got a ticket for it. Another friend got pulled over 56 in a 55, they just used it as an excuse to search his car, find nothing, etc. Typical state trooper behavior. Another example is my boy in NC got pulled by a trooper for going 59 in a 60. He got a ticket for "impeding traffic". It was midnight and he was the only one on the highway. Some cops are extremely retarded assholes, and more often than not those are going to be the state troopers. They literally exist to pull people over for tints and speed enforcement on the highway, specially. You can pass a sheriff going 20 over he may or may not come after you. That ain't his concern 95% of the time. His designation is serving possibly dangerous arrest warrants.

To be fair, I’ve put myself in a similar position before. I’ve rocketed down the highway, had some big vehicle move and boom, state trooper. It’s not that we cannot see, it’s that we cannot see past or around big vehicles so we’ll, and most of the time we’re on our cars, we’re not looking for cops, we’re busy making sure our driving is safe despite being considerably more spirited. I do love a codriver in the car though to tell me what’s around a vehicle. Makes it so easy to maneuver through traffic

I congratulated him on being the first to ever stop me on an Interstate in 50 yrs of driving. He laughed but still gave me the ticket however he said he could have doubled fine bc it was in a safety zone but since i made hi laugh he didn't.

    • @jenkinsj2010
      @jenkinsj2010 Před 3 lety

Gotta love those random "safety zones", as well as those "road work ahead" zones where they they put a few cones out along side the road and not a worker in sight.
Did you even know you were in a safety zone? Did you see a sign?
Why were you unaware the speed limit was 60 instead of 70?
I only ask because I have kind of a conspiracy theory (for lack of a better term).
Were you on a freeway, tollway, or some relatively major interstate, where the speed limit bounces back and forth between 55 mph and 75 mph (many times for no apparent reason, but usually, and understandably when entering more congested spots, towns, cities, etc.)?
..And were you using the left lane often, as there are are usually a decent amount of semi trucks in the right lane who have a lower speed limit..?
If that is the case, or similar, it is my belief you did not see the posted signs because they are simply not posted on the left side, and are impossible to see on the right side due to the abundance of 13'+ tall, 60'+ long semi trucks.
I'm not saying they "never" post those signs on the left side, but they are extremely far and few between, and often are only posted where the speed limit increases.
I truly think this is a literal "speed trap". I don't mean the term loosely, as most do when they see a zone being patrolled where the speed limit is clearly posted and people are getting popped for ignoring it. That is justified in my opinion. No I mean an actual entrapment scheme to collect revenue.
Hear me out if you wouldn't mind... Your post made me see that this could possibly be a thing, and if so, it's really not cool and I think people should be made aware.
What got me thinking is, due to having a commercial drivers license I am always very careful to pay close attention to all posted signs, as well as adhering to all traffic laws, in order to avoid moving violations, because literally one speeding ticket could cost me my job. Also since I drive for a living, I am on the roads constantly, meaning my chances of getting pulled over are considerably higher.
Anyway, recently took a personal road trip on the I-5 through WA, OR, and CA in my car, and can't tell you how many times I caught myself speeding in zones where the speed limit had been decreased and I had no clue until being well within, or completely passed the zone before realizing it due to occasional luck of catching one between trucks, noticing some (not most) cars slowing, or entering a more congested area and just assuming the speed limit was lower, but not knowing for sure and/or how much.
If the entire trip, both ways was like this for someone trained to watch for such changes, I can only imagine the money being raked in from unsuspecting travelers.
I have to assume this racket only continues due to loop holes being exploited, like DOT only being required to post "x" amount of signs, in "x" amount of miles, or not required to place any signs at all on the left side, or whatever crap like that. Or maybe justify it using lame, impractical/unrealistic arguments like "No one is forcing you to use the left lanes. If you can't see the clearly posted speed limit signs from those lanes, I can only suggest remaining in the right lane." knowing full well nobody is going to stay stuck behind a semi driving 10 mph slower than everyone else.
Plus most people will just mail in the extortion fee, since clapping with one hand makes more sense than wasting time, money, and resources pleading your case to the same agency that victimized you, in hopes they'll act against themselves and their own best interest.
Wow, sorry that is so long winded :/
Anyway, does that sound nuts? I don't know...
Let me know what you think
      Thanks!
