Love the builds of forged in fire this show has showed me lots of blacksmithing
Make urumi Kerala sword
Hello ,can you make a sword of shinobou kochou from demon slayer .thanks a lot.
Shotel...in Indonesian this weapon is "celurit"
I swear dark souls has almost every weapon this show has. I feel proud.
Good times
I'm also reminded of Castlevania: SOTN. It had this blade. Not sure if it has almost all the weapons for this show, though. Maybe many.
Assassins creed origins also had them
I can’t be the only one that wanted the dummy to lose its head in the keal test.
I was mad Doug didn't go for its head.
Dude me too, I wanted to see the head roll
RIGHT!
I was 100% expecting a decapitation.
Season 2 strength test = We're going to cut through some vines. Season 6 strength test = We're going to detonate a nuclear warhead on your blade. You suffered some edge rolling on the warhead test, which indicates a problem with your heat treat, for this reason, you cannot be the forged in fire champion.
🤣🤣
Forged in Uranium
The judges would be like "well unfortunately when we detonated that nuke on your blade, your blade completely disintegrated, which indicates there is a problem with the type of materials that you chose. Unfortunately your blade did not make the cut, please surrender your ashes"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That looked more like a sharpness test than a strength test.
A lot of people are saying Burt's blade wasn't historically accurate, which isn't true. He could have curved the blade a bit more, but this type of sword has potentially been used by a number of different cultures from around the fifth century BCE, so there has been a LOT of variation in terms of design. His blade actually resembles a lot of older historical examples from the early middle ages.
I see your point, but the drawing for them to follow was of a hooked Chatel. So in my eyes thats what he should of made. I would of failed him for simply not following the guidelines of the contest.
I can’t be the only one who read “shovel sword” and went from excited to disappointed
look for the spetsnaz shovel then its like a shovel/ edged tomahawk thing
Forged in Fire is the Dark Souls of blacksmithing.
So the swords purpose was to hook around enemy shield and dismount the enemy. Yet neither test was designed for that type of effect. Which sword would do a better job of that?
Burt is like a cat playing with his competition like their mice
Didn't expect a Dark Souls reference in forged and fire
I never expected it either, but the have referenced it a few times as well as other video games.
The shape of the blade was designed to hook around a shield but he tested the blade more like a 'normal' sword
But shotel is more like half moon blade... Burt goes beyond that, its a hook... More like fishing hook.
They aren't testing the blade they are testing the blacksmith.
@@elias_xp95 but aren't it would be fair if the judges tested both blade and the smith. I would say the functionality of burt's blade are not adequate according to the test. Because of the shape of course
A blacksmith is the middle man between a warrior and a blade. The final artefact must help the warrior to accomplish is goal in the battlefield. So if you are testing a Smith you need to consider in your testing the warrior, the blade and the enemy.
Burt and chad did not seem like they made the same weapon. Chad made a hook weapon and Burt made a reverse saber
Chad's shotel looks a lot like Roadhog's hook from Overwatch. I can't get it out of my head, the shape is perfect.
That shotel is from my country ethiopia🇪🇹 feels good to see it on this channel
Amhara side
@@JohnDoe-sw1rs I don't understand

that was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Satisfying
That shotel has a resemblance to a sickle... Nice build, gentlemen!
Greetings from the Philippines!
watch 00:35 - 00:40 with your eyes closed and don't laugh.
Why the f this comment isn't the most liked one😂😂
Doug, the skull is still on his shoulders...
Ok
Balisitic dummies should’ve been holding shields. Doug could first see if he can poke the wielded from behind the shield, then hook the shield and disarm the dummy. This sword is supposed to be very proficient when used this way.
So many people complaining about the curvature of Burt's blade. Even though if you look up actual historical shotels you can see a very large variety of curvature in the blades. Burt made the superior blade, its not about the curve...
Also I’m pretty sure they’re mispronouncing the name of this blade, the entire time. Am I right?
now i want 2 shotels and turn into a Sandrock gundam
This is also a weapon used by the Gundam Sandrock, too...
Burts blade looks more like a weed slasher/brush knife than a sickle. I have restored and repurposed many of both in all different shapes and sizes for fun in between working on axes and hatches. I must say though if I had to pick one to use myself it would be Burts, much easier to use and fight with that less pronounced curve and way easier to sharpen. I can't tell you how many times my hands and fingers have fallen victim to the bite of a sickle while doing the final polishing, definitely way more than knives or axes despite working with them much less often.
Right. The less curved Shotel has more reach und would be more practical to stab behind a shield or cut the backside of a knee.
The more curved one would be better to pull a shield but still it's not that easy if your opponent anticipates that very move.
Can't believe he lost
I just want to know who does the closed captions for these videos? More than once the captions called this the forest and fire competition.
Thanks for uploading this! I watched the Judge's Deliberation on this one and wanted to see the actual competition.
Anyone saying Burt's blade wasn't hooked enough, compare it to the reveal weapon. They almost match curves. If anything Chad's hook design went too far.
The reveal weapon was propped up at an angle, which understated the curve. Neither one of the contestants got it right.
The look on a smith's face when you ask them to make a curved blade.
Bert's blade wasn't hooked enough but more importantly: IT WILL KEAL
yep I thought it should be more hooked
@@soulfulfool Chads was too hooked though, a middle ground would have been perfect
actually it is closer to the real Shotels
08:58
One hooked too much one hooked too little but berts never got caught. Im no historian but i don't want a weapon i need to use force to get out
Uses oak drum for strength test on Kilij, uses vines on this weapon.
That was one weak-sauce strength test
Chad blade is Hook indeed, with the inside sharpness will not work due to long edge hook preventing powerful slice.
That tall dude looks like the sasquatch from the Goofy Movie.
Sometimes I just watch specific Forged in Fire episodes over again just to admire the beautiful craftsmanship & detail the blade smiths put in there work. Despite the historical accuracy of the weapons & tests that are made & performed on this show. And Burt’s Shotel was PHENOMENAL!
Kind of seems like Chad got penalised for staying truer to the design of the historic weapon on this one.
yeah that’s why im sad for him
They should have put a barrier in front of the dummies for the "keel test". That way, it would show how effective they were at getting around shields and parries. I feel like the more curved blade should have won this for that reason.
@@stubbornone1189 exactly, its easier to cut and slash with a tapered blade than a hooked one. But the tapered one definitely could have hooked a shield or a horseman. Chad got done dirty :/
there was a lot of experimentation in the shape and curve of the blade during the historical time period, and both are historically accurate.
I thought the same thing. I don't know why he didnt hook the dummy's heads and decapitate them....
I like the dark souls plugs
The vines were introduced to save another Damascus from breaking 💯
Representing my home town Burt!! WTG
If there where deformations from cutting vines they would have a problem!!
I want to see Doug's dry cleaning bill.
My favourite series
Forged in Fire rocks..!! Thank you for the update, History..!!
Im only here for only one thing, and that one thing is *it will keaaaalll*
OMG amazing strong Blades and great blade Smiths with damascus 🤗🤗
Of course out of all pieces of armor they decided to use that mask for their dark souls 2 character
Ikr? Just because of naruto we've got this transgender mask and not the one from the trailer.
Vines? For real?
“To test the strength of your blades, I will attempt to slice this grass, lets see how your blades hold up”
At least the edge held up which surprised me for sure
Well it might seem weird but this type of blade was and is still used extensively in agriculture, at least in Europe.
@@8Seboo not for vines though...
Its a agricultural tool with 180° curve lol what else you want.
But testing it on vines, for a strength test, is absolutely ridiculous. A strength test, on vines, I mean seriously they had to have a laugh at themselves.
Was very good competition to see the value of forging skill and the different expression of the goal.
This show is not only about weapon.this show participater teach us sportmanship and the judge teach us manuar🖤
Manure?
That was the weakest strength test I've ever seen. Vines? Really?
Symphony of the night weaponry
This weapon is awesome.
Good job sir.
My Bayek loved the Shotel lol!
Burt got a nice blade
Why is the liquid blue now?
Owesome i always waiting New episode
Thought it said shovel sword
I Love this Show❣️
Forest and fire champion! Yep kings of vines killer 😉
Chop chop, lollipop!
Obviously a predecessor of the Kopesh... interesting shape... I would hazard a guess that the originals, lost in time, were cast in bronze, and hammered hard...
U mean successor because the shotel came later
The strength test seemed a little weak...
Sical was never used to cut vines. A straighter sical with stave attached was used, different again to a full body sithe or however you spell it
Sickle, and scythe, for your reference!
“It will keel”
imagine some dude doesnt want to give up his weapon and charges at jury shouting:
IT WILL KEEL!!
They have snipers just waiting for such an event
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Burt in 30 minutes away from me
Burt's face seems familiar
Always aim for the head
ive always wondered what they do with all the weapons the people make
Most smiths "I gotta test this." /uses a water bottle or watermelon
Burt "I gotta test this." /CHOPS DOWN TREES
Burt Foster and Collin Sage are the only 2 bladesmiths who defeated judges in later episodes. The moment I see Burt's face, I know he wins.
I'm sure I remember him saying he assessed J Nielsen for his master Smith exam....
@@ot1625 that's correct. i knew he would've beaten J
Ancient astronaut theorist say yes
I love this show show much
I love you so much too babe
excellent
Lmao I just realized what if they made the iron throne from all the weapons that were turned in that would actually be awesome
So what, no points for authenticity?
Lets not forget about the Gundam Sandrock from Gundam Wing.
It had a weapon like that to.
Anyone else fully expect Doug to say "Eet will strength"?
Next an Egyptian kopesh. unless it was already done.
This sir, will keal.
I didn't know shoeing horses was a seasonal job. Aren't farriers services needed year round?
Wait, wait, wait... The strength test was... cut vines? Really? kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
He didnt meet the parameters of a Chatel in my eyes.
I would of failed him simply for not following the guidelines of the contest.
Chad's blade was really accurate made and fidel to the model burt's should not be even tested because does not meet parameters, i am really dissapointed in judges decision
Interesting
Dove posso vedere gli episodi completi in italiano?
Should have had a shield in front of the dummy
Bert made it not rly hooked so its not fair
Make the videos longer
That blade help make Sicilians dark
How that was strength test?
That was the most pathetic strength test ive ever seen
I like how they let the same professional guy test the weapon, otherwise the winner would be the strongest\ most skilled blacksmith regardless of how good is the weapon.
Imagine it broke while being tested :/
Basicaly kopesh but more curved.
I think I’d have made the same choice for winner but those blades were nearly equal! I more accurate swing from Doug and I think the other guy would’ve passed through that meat as well
Good battle, if Chad's cut was equall in the final test I think he would have won this 1
The best
I think it's so friggin annoying when Doug says it will kill
The strength test is a joke
Epic
400 knives per Year ofc dude so u do more than one per day
I can´t imagine how hard it would be for a person to make 10/20 knives weekly, if they are all the same design and not really with a weird shape.
