  • Just me changing the spark plugs on my Yamaha R1 2001 model.
I bought NGK Iridium plugs, and originally bought the CR9EIX plugs,
but they are the wrong one's. So I exchanged them for CR9EHIX-9.

I use a 150mm length of rubber fuel line over the plugs to take them out and install. So much easier.
I run the NGK CR9EK plugs. Alot cheaper than iridium

I too have a 01 and am wanting to do the plugs this winter while bike is in garage. Why the HIX-9 over the EIX which every site is recommending?

Hi. I noticed when I opened the EIX plugs the top(terminal)of the plug looked bigger in diameter than the denso plug terminal, so thought the
Coil stick wouldn't fit onto, over the new
EIX plug, and I was right. So I took the denso plug to my local auto parts shop
and they showed me the HIX-9 was the perfect replacement.
So yeah, I learned the hard way lol.
Take a plug out first, and take it with you before you buy replacement plugs,
So you know you have the right fit for the coil, coil sticks.

@@spurs0706 This might sound stupid, but did you unscrew the plug terminal caps off the new CR9EIX plugs? If you mean the plugs looked fatter on the CR9EIX plugs and the caps were still screwed on, then yes they would be. I couldn't quite make out if the Denso plugs had a cap screwed on or not, if it didn't, that could be the difference. Reason i say this is, I've looked at NGK's website for both plugs and they seem identical. Furthermore i read on R1 forums that people have used the CR9EIX plugs in 98-01 R1's with no problems and recommend them?
