    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před rokem +2

      Yes, a video is going around where a "dermatologist/influencer" could not distinguish between wet and damp skin; apparently, many other influencers copied it. So now many people confuse "wet" and "damp" skin. So if you are one of them:
      Damp skin is when the skin has been dried off on the skin surface just after cleansing.
      Wash face
      take a towel and pat it dry (remove the remaining water drops from the skin's surface)
      Now the skin is damp and stays that way for several minutes
      That is when you should apply the moisturizer so that it locks in the moisture
      Now, what happened is:
      He washed his face
      left it wet
      applied the moisturizer 🙄
      I have another video with the same explanation while showing it:

    Shouldn't we apply the moisturizer to damp skin

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes, there is some confusion between dry, damp, and wet skin.
      To clarify and answer your questions:
      Wet skin refers to skin that has a noticeable layer of water on it. You can see water droplets on the skin's surface, and you can feel the water when you touch the skin.
      Damp skin refers to skin that has been patted dry on the surface but still retains moisture internally. There are no visible water droplets on the skin's surface. It's akin to a sponge or a piece of clothing that no longer drips water but remains moist to the touch.
      Dry skin refers to skin that has been patted dry on the surface and then left for 5-10 minutes to allow the remaining moisture to evaporate. This practice involves letting the skin air dry completely before applying any products or continuing with other skincare routines. Doing so can be beneficial, especially when using potent treatments, as it allows them to absorb more slowly into the skin, thereby reducing irritation.
      In the video, I essentially demonstrated what damp skin looks like. If the explanation above wasn't clear enough, you can watch it again in this video: czcams.com/video/xNUUUr81rLE/video.html

      @@aneesurrehman4929 That may be the issue.
      Here's how it's supposed to be used:
      Clean face with the Hydro Boost cleanser
      Remove water drops with a clean towel by gently patting all over the skin
      Then apply a pea to a bean-sized amount of moisturizer so that you have a very thin and even layer all over.
      Applying it to wet skin can dilute the formulation, and therefore, it may not work correctly anymore.
      The idea of a moisturizer is to lock in the moisture that the skin absorbed while you washed your face.
      For more info about this, you can watch the following video:

      For the Ordinary retinol, the Ordinary Moisturizer is fine; it also works differently; therefore, many people say so, but you need to give it more time. Still, this gel is also fantastic, so you can use it.
      However, I suggest trying the retinol on its own before using any moisturizer. The Ordinary Retinol is in Squalane, so they are already very hydrating and do not necessarily need an additional moisturizing product! :)

      Cleanser - Serum - Moisturiser. This would be the order.
      After washing your face, you pat the skin dry (your skin is still damp), then follow with your serum and then moisturizer.
      You do not need to 'wet or dampen' your skin again.

      @Emilio Rodríguez Damp skin refers to when your skin has absorbed some water but has been dried off on the surface. It doesn't look much different on the surface alone than dry skin. So if you washed your face (as I did in the video) and removed the water drops from the skin surface, it is damp and remains damp for some time. (15-30 minutes)
      Applying products onto damp skin makes them absorb better into the skin. But it does not change the efficacy of Hyaluronic Acid; it has the same effect when applied to dry skin since it cannot absorb more water from the skin or environment.

      If not using a moisturizer at all works for your skin, then do not use one - it's that simple 😅 It's fine to use the snail essence instead of a moisturizer to add lightweight hydration to the skin. I too rarely use a moisturizer. If I use one, it's generally a gel-type moisturizer like The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan or Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Water Gel. So, it's fine to just add Some Bi Mi Retinol + Bakuchiol to your evening routine. Although, you may want to alternate between that one and The Ordinary Buffet + Copper Peptides.

However, if you want to have a more matte appearance, consider using just a hydrating essence, serum, or a gel-type moisturizer like the one from The Ordinary with Beta Glucan or HA, or something like La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat.
