Hello Melissa!
Thanks for the tutorials! I’ve started to take care of my skin after seeing one of your tutorials (I think it was the double cleanse one)😊
I’m a 23M so applying right amount and correct way of applying skin care products was a struggle for me until I found your videos!
I have oily skin and very acne-prone. I have breakouts on my nose and cheeks almost every week.
My routine right now is:
Bioderma sebium micellar water
Cerave Foaming cleanser and cerave blemish control cleanser 2x a week
LRP effaclar serum/cerave blemish control serum depending on what I could get with employment discount
Neutrogena water gel daytime before work, Neutrogena water night cream before bed
I have a few questions about my routine😅
Firstly, I live in a very cold environment, would you still say the Water gel during the day is good, or should I get something that is a bit more thick like a cream?
Second, I work inside the whole day, and the sun is not out when I go to work and when I leave(during winter), should I still wear sunscreen?
Third, I noticed that sometimes during work that my t zone and cheeks gets a bit oily, should I then reapply the water gel, or wait until I get home and move the full night routine right after work instead of before bed?
Last question, would you swap out any of the products for something stronger/better? I am a pharmacist so I have access to any drugstore brand in Europe.
Thank you for taking time to answer and keep up the good work 😁
The issue with using a cream that contains heavy oils or petroleum jelly is that it increases the likelihood of clogged pores. Instead, you might consider using a gel with more dimethicone. You can reapply it as needed, but generally, slightly drier skin is preferable to an overly oily surface, which can lead to new breakouts. A product like CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Gel could be a good choice.
As for sunscreen, even though UV rays can penetrate clouds, I personally don't use it in such scenarios. The argument often made is that cumulative exposure over the years can lead to premature aging. However, it also depends on your comfort with using chemicals daily over several years, which could negate the benefits of sunscreen or render them less significant.
Regarding the build-up of oil, mixing it with moisturizer could potentially cause clogging. My advice is to use kitchen paper or blotting paper to dab off the excess oil, which is what I do. Then, when you get home, use a foaming cleanser to remove it. As for micellar water, I'm not sure it's the best option. I recommend a balm cleanser, like the Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm, which I've found works well for acne-prone skin. It's gentler, very hydrating, and shouldn't clog pores.
Overall, depending on the formulation of your CeraVe Foaming Cleanser, you might consider switching to Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser or Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm, as they aren't as drying. Sometimes, CeraVe's foaming cleanser can be too harsh, especially with frequent or long-term use.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you for the recommendations! I will try them and see if it helps 😊

I have used so many creams and moisturizers for sweat and i will get sweat in winter also. Is this gel will reduce sweat ?
Please reply....
No, just use a tissue throughout the day to remove your sweat.
Thanks for that. I recently purchased it but wasn't sure about it. About the amount of it. Will it work on acne?
Well, it is not an acne treatment moisturizer, in case you meant that, but it can work well on acne-prone skin. Yes, as it is very lightweight!

No, if you have very dry skin, a lightweight lotion may not be enough. In that case, it's better to use a cream or a heavier lotion.

you can but it may not be needed. It would be the last step.

How to apply Skincare on Damp Skin?:
czcams.com/video/xNUUUr81rLE/video.html
Hello. Do you know if it's safe to use on the delicate skin under our eyes ? Thank you 😊
I wouldn't use it on top of the eyelids, mainly because of the risk of getting it into your eyes. However, you can use it on the eye contour.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial I'll go on and purchase it then ! Thank you very much for your answer 😀
Is this the body lotion or is this just for your face or can you use it as a body lotion
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel is a product that is primarily designed for facial use, as it is formulated to provide hydration to the delicate skin on the face. While it is possible to use it on other parts of the body, it may not be the most effective option for moisturizing the skin on the rest of the body.
The skin on the face is different from the skin on the body, and the formulation of facial moisturizers is typically designed to be lighter and more easily absorbed. Using a facial moisturizer on the body may not provide enough hydration, especially for areas that tend to be drier, such as the legs and arms.
Therefore, it is recommended to use a body lotion or moisturizer specifically designed for the body to ensure that it provides the necessary hydration and nourishment to the skin on the rest of the body.
Are you a Dermatologist? I got the exact Hydro Boost Water Gel. How come people talk bad about it? Is it good product?
No, but often people criticize one product just to promote another; it's marketing. The product in question is excellent and has an excellent formulation.

Okay, do you know if your meat and fish have been heavily contaminated with antibiotics or heavy metals? Because it may not be the beef, pork or the fish itself but what has been done to it. It would be interesting to know if you would experience the same issues if you only consumed wild-caught fish/organic food that has not been treated in various ways. The same can apply to vegetables and fruits. Also, do you eat/drink a lot of sugary food? If yes, it would be wise to stop doing that as well to reduce your cravings and inflammation in your body. After I apply the netrogena hydro water boost gel can I use a cream because the netrogena alone makes my face quite dry and why can I smell the netrogena water boost in my throat I used pea sized amounts, I have oily skin
Do you apply it to damp/wet skin? Please, don't ingest the moisturizer-however, yes, it contains fragrance, which you can smell, and that's why you may perceive the scent in your throat.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial I apply it after I use my cera ve facial cleanser ofcourse drying my skin with a towel ofcourse but is there anyway of combating the fragrance without having to buy the non fragrance one? Also would this netrogena product cause breakouts on oily skin?

@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial oh alright thank you for your time I kinda got used to the fragrance now but still many thanks
Hello can I use it without makeup or sunscreen, just applying it
Sure :)
Might dry out your skin
@@moncleazyyy Yes, are you referring to the myth that hyaluronic acid sucks moisture from the deeper layers of the skin? 😏 If so, that's nonsense. Hyaluronic acid actually adds moisture to the skin. It absorbs water from the serum formulation by holding onto water molecules, and then you apply this to the skin. So, it's not drying.
Does feeling it kind of "burning" my skin normal? It's not actually burning but I just feel my skin very very warm after applying it. Also, I bought it two years ago and used it only a few times and leaving it before I recently came back to it, is it okay?
I also use Neutrogena hydro boost eye cream which slightly stings my eyes, but nothing that really makes me worry, but I still wonder if it's normal?
Hey! Do you apply these products to wet/damp skin, or to patted dry skin?
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial on dry skin I guess! I actually first clean my face, then use a vitamin E serum and only use the products I mentioned after a while (after like around 10-15 minutes). Am I doing it the wrong way?
@@malakokliko Hm... Have you tried using Neutrogena's products on their own, just to see if they are really causing the issue, or if it's a combination you're using? If the same thing happens when using them individually, it's probably best to stop using them. Initially, you might want to refrain from using them for about a week (as it might be an initial reaction). However, if it doesn't improve after that, it's best to discontinue use altogether.
Can i use cerave sunscreen with neutrogena moisturizer??
Yes :)
it works perfect with combination skin?
It's hard to say, as it depends on how dry your skin is. However, if your skin is more on the oily to normal side, then it's definitely a fantastic product!
Can we use it after applying vit c suspension 30% with silicone? I have the ordinary company one. Or after applying retinol?
I would recommend applying the Vitamin C Suspension 30% after this gel, primarily because it contains a high concentration of dimethicone. However, this combination might not be the most effective. Instead, I suggest using a lighter serum like The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics beforehand for better layering. Also, avoid using it with retinol, as this can be too potent, especially if done repeatedly.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial can you tell me any other moisturizer which I can use after applying vit c suspension and retinol
@@SafiHader I would not recommend using a moisturizer after applying a vitamin C suspension; instead, opt for a hydrating serum as previously suggested, for better layering compatibility. The necessity of using a moisturizer after retinol application varies depending on your specific retinol formulation. A widely compatible moisturizer that suits most people is 'The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA'.
Thank you so much for your help. Means a lot 😊
Babe, how long to wait before applying sunscreen after it?
Wait for it to absorb, about 1-2 minutes, and then layer your sunscreen on top :)
Can i use this with Isntree watery sunscreen?

I feel like this is a bit expensive and mediocre compared to thicker ones like CeraVe and LRP. But how good is it?

You can either just apply more, because the formula is gentle and doing that won't hurt you, or you can try a moisturizer with ceramides, since that will actually help form the moisture barrier to lock in moisture instead of simply trying to draw in moisture from the air around it like HA does. the waywr gel has hyaluronic acid in it so u have to use a moisturizer over the top to keep the moisture in
No, that is a common misconception, and primarily marketing of Hyaluronic Acid. It cannot absorb more water or pull water from the deeper layers when used in skincare products, so you are fine to use it on its own.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial ya. U should apply a moisturizer on top because otherwise your skin will feel dry. I've experienced it and alot of others have too
@@lilqueenaesthicas2625 This is a moisturizer 😉. But that's not true, sorry. If you experience dryness when using it, you may have applied it to wet skin (as some individuals show on social media because they cannot tell the difference between damp and wet skin), diluting the formulation, or you had dry skin in the first place, so it wasn't occlusive enough for you.
@@lilqueenaesthicas2625 But I'm also going to explain the concept of keeping moisture in. When you wash your face, your skin absorbs some water, and you want to keep that water in the skin. Therefore, you layer this moisturizer or any other moisturizer on top so that it stays there for longer. This formulation contains dimethicone, which 'locks in' moisture and helps prevent the loss of moisture from the skin surface. So, it's already doing that.
Im Just goin by what my dermatologist said and it does work better that way for dry skin.
How do you still have acne with all those products you review? 😭 (not being rude serious question😢)
These products are not meant to cure acne; they are treatments that help improve the condition but don't make it disappear completely. I know that some individuals who have never had acne, or even companies, advertise them as cures, but that's not their intended use. Do you also struggle with acne?
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Oh I see, yes I do have acne as well. But they stay gone when I use the products daily, everyone’s body is different ig :)
@@Kris_413 What products did you use? Have you made any changes to your lifestyle? Also, what type of acne did you have?
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial I have oily skin so the products I use are; Cerave Foam facial cleanser, Paula Choice Pore Reducing Toner (oily combination) and Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel cream (no fragrance). My acne issue is whiteheads, I’m also skin of color so I got all my info/products from Dr Vanita Rattan’s CZcams channel. Only changes to my diet are, I drink lots of water and stopped eating lots of sugary foods.
@@Kris_413 So, this type of acne is already very different from mine, which includes Papules, Pustules, and is hormonal.
For example, whiteheads are caused by clogged pores filled with sebum (oil) and dead skin cells. Over-the-counter topical treatments containing ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and retinoids are often effective. These ingredients help to unclog pores, reduce oil production, and promote skin cell turnover. Therefore, you have a very good chance of reducing or even eliminating them with a balanced and targeted skincare routine.
Papules and Pustules can also be treated with topical products to some extent, but they may require a more robust approach due to the presence of inflammation and infection.
Hormonal acne is influenced by hormonal fluctuations and is not easily treatable, as it's affected by the body's hormonal changes.
Drinking lots of water does not help in acne treatment, as the body does not need that much. However, eating less sugar may be helpful, although for me, it does not make any difference.
My acne appears to be primarily linked to preservatives and other additives in food, although I'm not exactly sure what's causing it. It hasn't responded to the medications I've tried, though I haven't explored treatments like Accutane or other strong medical options due to their potential side effects. My husband used such treatments in his youth; while they cleared his acne, they left him with numerous small scars on his back. Given this, I prefer to avoid these treatments and accept occasional acne flare-ups until I can determine the exact cause.
You are so perfect I love pretty woman😊

Can oily acne prone skin people use this?
Hmm, technically, yes, but practically, it may still lead to breakouts depending on how well you react to dimethicone. A better option would be something like The Ordinary's Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (Hyaluronic Acid) or generally avoiding these areas with moisturizer. That's what works best for me.
you're actually supposed to use a moisturizer after using it.
