      It's understandable though, it's kind of hard to advance when there are almost always wars, rebellions/revolutions, invasions, or other crises. That's why the most advanced civilizations are the Dwemer, who lived underground and didn't interact with the outside world much, and the Ayleids, who were basically the first civilization on Tamriel and thus didn't really have competition. And having magic actually doesn't help much with advancement, due to the whole "why try to create technology to do this when I can just use magic instead" thing. Just look at the Telvanni in Morrowind and their utter refusal to have stairs or ladders (let alone elevators) in their towers when they can just levitate. If you can use magic against every possible problem, there's no need for technology.

    • @zylaaeria2627
      @zylaaeria2627 Před 5 lety +306

      Arlux - Actually, there was significant technological progress at several points. The Dwemer & Altmer are great examples of this. The only reason it isn't like how it is IRL is due to the numerous world-ending events that tend to be real prevalent on Nirn in general along with the constant infighting between every faction. The Altmer for instance had spacecraft with various high-energy based weapons & even interplanetary colonies that occasionally led expeditions into various dimensions of Oblivion/Aetherius. The Sunbirds as they were called were eventually tucked away & the program cancelled due to the immense magicka expenditures that were required to maintain them. Then you have the Dwemer who had inter-dimensional portals & a ridiculously good grasp on metallurgy & their potent animunculi. They even had celestial orrerys that could map out & project maps of all of Tamriel in realtime. This isn't even getting into tonal architects who could reshape the very fabric of reality itself.
      Some of the technology that we have in our world would actually be useless in their world because they simply have better alternatives. Earth as of 2018 would actually lose against Tamriel even in the 4th Era. It isn't as backwards as it seems at first glance.

      Elder Scrolls Online has been in a fishy place in the lore community, if you don't know about it. Zenimax essentially created the Great War and Molag Bal's invasion for the sake of their game, in the 2nd era. Since there's obviously no books on the matter, it's generally taken as "not canon", but there's fan theories about "dragon-breaks", seperate timelines and all that jazz, really we're just gonna have to wait and see if Elder Scrolls VI will have books on the Great War to end the argument once and for all.

      If you're referring to the period that lasted for about 1000 years during the first era, it's because there was a Dragon Break, called the Middle Dawn, during this period.
      To make it simple, a Dragon Break is a period when the linearity of time itself is broken. (It is a reference to Aka, the Dragon-God of Time) During a Dragon break, multiple realities coexist, and eventually merge when the Dragon Break is over. For example, Vivec used a Dragon Break to merge two realities : one in which he was born a mortal, and one in which he was born a god.
      The Elder Scrolls cannot record events during a Dragon Break, so there is no way to know what truly happened. In fact, EVERYTHING is true, during a Dragon Break.
      So, if nothing seems to have happened during this time, it's because actually, there is no way to know what happened.

    Love this video, but of course I'll be one of those guys that points out inaccuracies. Skyrim had two high kings, one for east and western Skyrim. Only East Skyrim joined the pact, and only western and northern black marsh. Furthermore, Black Marsh's large central region has never been formally controlled by any empire, having been free of all non argonian civilizations due to its poisonous air for something. It is unknown whether they recognize the empire as their lords or not, so its safer to just colour them a lighter pinkish red to signify the Empire (also reman's empire)'s claim over the area, but lack of control. Keep up the good work :)

      NaViLlUs cIrE You see, you actually need to know what Tamrielic history is in order to make claims like that. There are infinitely interesting pieces of lore that CZcams channels have dedicated to piecing together to create an overarching story. Now tell me, is a divine Crusader wielding a blade of flame, fighting for freedom against godly elves in a jungle, accompanied by divine intervention and a war that culminates in a battle in the skies more interesting than the actual crusades? Or how about the fact that in Tamrielic history divine intervention actually happens, creating a much more interesting storyline? Or maybe even when demons from Oblivion launched a conquest where inter-dimensional portals were opened all across a province, letting in hundreds of mythological beasts that killed and pillaged entire cities, only to be triumphed by the sheer willpower of a courageous person. Now you can argue that Greek mythology supplies us with such tales of that proportion of craziness, but none of that happened. In Tamrielic history, everything recorded in the games happened within that universe, making it more interesting since you are even given the ability to partake in the events.

      And yet it was mundane (but cool) humans that created all of that, the devs and *writers (some very..."vivid" imaginations)* of the elderscrolls series. I never made the claim that real world history is more fascinating than fictional ones, to me there BOTH equally great in their own ways. But if your looking for some intresting REAL world history just watch vids about some of history's notable figures.
      p.s. Especially Bismarck, that guy is a legend! *(he always had a "plan")*
      p.s.s Also *just because some X (functional) magic thing happened doesn't automatically = AWSOME,* I could care less about magical junk being shoved into my face ever other 2 minutes of an adventure. To me it all comes down to how well the overall piece (story) is put together, which relies heavily on the author's skill (or lack of..) in telling an engaging tale. GOOD story telling is REAL magic, one of the most intresting things about any world.

Western Skyrim is not a member of the pact and neither is the reach, whiterun, dawnstar, winterhold and falkreath probably aren't either. Leyawiin is not a member of the AD, it's an independent city state. Not all of Argonia is a member of the pact, pretty sure it's only the northernmost part(shadowfen). Pretty much only the daggerfall covenent is correct but even then Orsinium and Wrothgar with it leave the covenent after the events of ESO:Orsinium. Also not every house in Morrowind is part of the pact either, notably I think the telvanni aren't part of it. Northern Elsweyr is also occupied by Imperial forces and run by Euraxia Tharn until the end of the events of ESO Elsweyr when it comes under AD control.

No longer shall the name of the ninth divine be tarnished and outlawed, no longer shall the accursed high elves subjugate the other races of man and mer!
