    About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
    Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

ok, the problem here is that ScrapMan tested how much engines give enough lift if they oriented verticaly, then he put them horizontaly and add wings. but for that new concept the source of lift are not thrusters, its wings. to make it work properly you could either leave it be vertical with additional thrusters to move side to side, or cut off some engines and add more wings if you want it be horizontal. tbh, you just lucky it evenr worked.

Of course this was long ago, before even the high seas update, so the physics may have changed since then.

I think the different anchor blocks would actually clash with each other and not allow for movement due to trailmakers not having 100% static connections as well as a bit of glitchyness and it would end up self destructing

    • @Loop_Kat
      @Loop_Kat Před 8 měsíci +1

@@Omgbbqhaxlolol That's actually something of a general rule with Trailmakers, the more attachment points a block has, the more stable/sturdy it becomes. Standard blocks become harder to break off (it doesn't increase their health, it just makes the joint strength stronger) and mechanical blocks can bear more weight and more extreme forces
For example, if you have a bunch of weight on one steering hinge, it'll probably wobble all over the place, but adding more hinges to the same flex point will make it stronger. Or, if you have a wheel that's only supported by one suspension block, it'll be much more prone to bottoming out or snapping off compared to a wheel that's supported by two or more suspension blocks. And, so on and so forth

There's an interesting effect that you experienced here; with really complex creations, you can interact with them in build mode. Shooting and damaging parts, for example. You can't destroy anything until the creation spawns in though. It's a really strange effect, as the creation will be mostly untouchable, but sometimes a bullet or rocket or other creation will collide.

  • @EpsilonRosePersonal
    @EpsilonRosePersonal Před 8 měsíci +2

When you started this video and mentioned mathing it out, I decided to try mathing the entire thing out, based on just the weights and the power of the engines. This ran into some interesting hurdles and produced some interesting results.
The biggest hurdle was the fact that we have units for the weight of parts, but not the power, and it's not entirely clear what that stat actually measures (at least not to me). I ended up assuming that it's really measuring force and that it's doing so in Newtons, which seemed to be mostly supported by my own testing. The thing is, if the force is rated in Newtons, then the strength gravity in Trail Makers is NOWHERE near what it is on Earth. After some more testing, I got a value of ~2.8011m/sec^2. If that value is correct, then you would have need between 143 and 144 engines to exactly lift the weight (the balance point falls between those two numbers).
With all of that said, I'd be kind-of curious to see you revisit this challenge, but with a horizontal takeoff in mind from the beginning. With a plane, most of your upwards force should be coming from the wings, while the engines should mostly provide horizontal force, meaning you should need far fewer of them and with fewer engines you'd have more room to add aerodynamic components that might let you reduce the engine count even further. So, that raises the question: How small can you make a plane that lifts the heaviest object in Trail Makers?

If you're going to put flaps at the leading edges, you'll need to flip them around as you'll want to create a pringle shape in the wing's profile, causing the air to push the front of the wings upwards as the trailing edge flaps push the back of the wing down. Many of my builds take advantage of these reverse flap physics to create lift in wings with inadequate lift

To max you’re Multiplayer Monday brainstorming with da lads.
Right to the good stuff: Multiple round of picking up a weight block, the block getting increasingly more heavy, see who is the stronger one to pick it up. (Evolution of your own craft to make it better, MUST BE A VEHICLE aka, nothing that just attaches to the block. Magnets and anchor blocks are not allowed) (Power core limit and whatever else you need, but each round of evolution it increases)

During flight you had to keep it's ''nose'' up all the time so the jet engines would push (partially) upward instead of sideways. The only way it would work.

You need to at least meet the speed required to move the mass of the plane before you even think of generating lift. Then you need to be able to hit the minimum speed required to activate your lift. Although adding wings will reduce the amount of speed needed to gain lift its also both weight and drag for your engines to fight which reduces overall preformance. Speed is your friend, drag is your enemy.
It's more effective if you tackle whats there, than to add to an already heavy aircraft. For instance he used the lowest thrust to weight engine, has abysmal aero and is still flying. He only needs to swap them out for high thrust to weight engines like the new propellers and he would instantly improve both thrust to weight and give him 3x or 4x more room to reduce the aerodynamic drag on the airframe meeting the speed required for the wings instead of hindering performance with extra wings
He honestly made it pretty God damn hard on himself, it's impressive seeing it even fly

Everyone builds a vehicle, 1carrier and 1-2planes per team, the goal is to destroy the enemy carrier, the planes can respawn infinitely and have to take off from the carrier. The planes should have guns/rockets to fight enemy planes, but can only use torpedoes and guns against the carriers,(rockets and bombs would be too easy) so the carrier also has to dodge the torpedoes while letting the planes take off.

-build a smaller plane from those chunks with a 100 block limit
-you have 10 blocks of your own for functionality
    -dogfight.

Hey I have an idea. A video where you revisit your fails and try the suggestions from the comments.
Like for this one, turn some of the turbine engines upwards for more lift. If possible, lower the wings 1 row, and have some or all of those thrusters above the wings facing upwards. Lift was the problem. You don't need much for forward momentum.

Another multiplayer idea, instead of having a max block limit, you have a minimum block limit, so you have to make a bigger car

Dude that was awsome but you could have just built a lifter. Like, not an elevator, a vehicle that uses the jover pad glitch like when you make a tower of them facing down on each other and gravity just stops existing in that axis

I’ve had a bug lately looking back at “Crimson Skies”. Air Pirates. They would drop fighters from a zeppelin and recover them by catching a hook. My favorite plane was the Hughes P21-J Devastator, a twin counter-rotating propeller pusher plane (engine in back) with “X-Wings” semi-based on the real life P-55 Ascender. Could you and Yuzzei (sorry if autoINcorrect butchers his name) use that style of hook recovery from “Crimson Skies” as a challenge, like your recent “land on a flying plane” and similar challenges, in some way? The way the “Pandora” recovered the Devastators? Or use the P-55 concept in a “push propeller plane” dogfight challenge? Or even a push-pull concept like the Dornier Do 335 just to see what kind of unique aircraft y’all might come up with?

I feel like making the object longer and slimmer would help with aerodynamics and using more lift and less thrust might work better. and of course multiple ancors. Since this was just proof of concept, it works, but improving on it could be enough for a multiplayer challenge (at like half the block limit and weight) for performance

  • @TheBSprince

Video idea: do a multiplayer air battle but everyone must make a plane that Carries the heaviest weight during combat. If that’s too hard. You could have one freight plane and the rest be fighters.

It might’ve made the aerodynamics worse, but better complexity if you moved some of the thrusters into the middle. Could’ve maybe also moved the anchor further into the build

You should focus more on the amount of thrust needed to move the object to a given speed and use the massive amount of wasted complexity on lift and aerodynamics.

hey scrapman! the airliner engines were good in terms of power per item, but I think they had bad power:weight and power:size ratios. perhaps using space thrusters would've turned out better results? also, instead of building super tall and leaving the craft hollow, filling the internals with an engine would've possibly given better results as less support material would've been needed.

multiplayer monday challenge idea, 2v2 person builds a cargo plane that actually has a payload (could be something like a bunch of blocks or a mini plane, whatever you want) the other person builds an attack plane, and you have to deliver it by dropping it onto a set target without letting it take to much damage in the process

The 154 was already a miscalculation. If you need 2 for 9, you need 155.5 meaning 156 just for the weights (so already 2 more). And on top of that, you need lift for the structure, that the engines are attached to... So 160 is already cutting in close.
