Now that I see how hard he is on himself and how serious he gets even for this kind of content, I understand better how he has become such a master.
Hard, hard work!
He’s such a perfectionist and it’s why he’s so incredible. He really reminds me of the real life Andrew neiman
Right? That was pretty eye-opening, but at the same time not at all unexpected considering his prowess. Dude earned his place at the top and this just increases my respect for him.
One more common feature with the great Buddy Rich.
Such a drastic difference from other folks who were on Drumeo. They all are like “here is my style, here is my interpretation, take it or leave it”. This dude is awesome. Takes it seriously.
It's so cool to watch Pros do their thing.
IKR
@@JorryGT ?
@@ulmusf8935 ikr = i know right
Ain’t that the truth
whats pro about this?
He’s a perfectionist. Never seen someone have them take it from the top that many times.
He would have kept going, too. The dude is a machine! So cool to see him working through the process.
I guarantee you he would have gone all day if he could have until he got it all nailed down. His dedication is incredible
I'm a drummer and I feel him. I've learned plenty of songs and I get annoyed if I don't get em exactly right 😂
Exactly what I'm thinking while watching this for the first time!
Sounds like a simple track, but in reality the groove brooks put on the song is truly a trip to no mans land.
And synester gates delivers a diabolical solo to scare me from attempting it 😅
Honestly you don't have to repeat it 1/1 it's not a Mocart
Bruh this doesn't sound simple
If you think this sounded simple, either you’re not even a drummer or you need to get your ears checked
@@stay60feetawayfromme33 relax man, there's no need for the aggressive reply 😆 compared to their others track, it sounds fairly simple .
I love that when different people play a song… it sounds different. Every person adds some nuances… that's brilliant.
That's music. That's art in general. Whether painting a picture, singing a song, or playing it on an instrument. You can pick one individual differences.
Its really cool, and it can range from total improve to a minor change. But any differemce to make it unique from one person to another is one of the things that makes music great.
Well this version is way different to the original. It’s a lot more complex and adds insane ghost note patterns.
Killed it Greyson!!
Yo Brandon, do you think you get could get Matt Garskta to do some more stuff with drumeo???
Greyson has a special appeal that stands out more than most of the other guests you've had. Definitely worth exploring more stuff with him.
Once he finally got that fill down, you could just feel the joy in his playing. And Oh my god the way he attacks the cymbals with such power and speed is incredible. Brought a lot of feel to a vey robotic feeling drum track. I'm very impressed.
Robotic?
@@legend53beast63 the first half really does feel robotic. the second half is the exact antithesis to it in my opinion
@@edokrn1 it’s tight, it’s fitting the groove of the progression of the song. It’s a master at work.
The hit hat part is robotic esque but more as an effect, the song itself definitely grooves and isn’t lifeless
@@legend53beast63 i completely agree. the first half feels robotic because that's its intention. i'm not saying it's a bad thing
Greyson is such a joy to watch
That's what I thought: Great to listen to, but also really fun to watch!
I fuckn love this series! Drummers that I love playin songs that I love, just that they're completely unexpected👌🏻
It’s actually kind of nice to see somebody so talented struggle with another song. Just proves he’s human too. Lol
Maaan...that was my first take away. It's easy to get discouraged by amazing 10 year olds on utube that make me look like a beginner. Having an absolute pro get discouraged is actually encouraging. It's ironic.
that's what u call struggling?
@@jukkaismi It's a bizarre comment.
Greyson's "struggling" > my lifetime of playing.
They sure did edit it to make it seem like he was struggling. If you saw those takes they were probably just as good tho 😉
That's just him learning ..all drummers learn and embrace challenge as a construct. Greyson handled it like one of the Drum Gods.
I love his style, he can play everything you tell him to play 👏🔥
He actually plays in a rock band. But he's also a modern day buddy rich. Oh the irony
@@sirdrum-a-lot where do you see the irony in my comment? I just wrote that he's very talented guy, i know what he plays. I'm his big fan, support him a lot..
@@tomo_drums, I think the irony is that Buddy Rich used to criticize rock drumming as being so simple.
@@crusher0427 exactly, buddy hated rock drummers for their "lack of creativity" and "incorrect matched grip" meanwhile 20 year old greyson is killing both styles 🙃
For those who don't know, he plays for Suicidal Tendencies with Robert Trujillo's son.
So weird to see this jazz prodigy playing heavy metal, yet so satisfying. He's great! Bigger fan now 😄
he’s in suicidal tendencies now!
Most good classic rock drummers were jazz musicians
@@gimmigimmigimmi Damn!
Jazz drumming fits seamlessly into metal. Its really not strange. They both flirt with the whimsical constantly changing sounds from the overhead sounds like guitar, sax, flute, piano yada. It is a play ground for creativity.
Jazz and metal are beautifully combined
I really appreciate this guy. He's one hell of a drummer. He can play jazz he can play Rock he can play anything. thumbs up to sir.
Greyson has an insane work ethic.
The fucking guys who asked him to make the video are like "bro can we wrap this up" and he's asking for more takes, as he sweats and puts everything into every take.
We all know his technique and skill is phenomenal but now I see why that's the case, the fucking dude works so hard and really has the passion to sit and repeat until it's perfect.
SO MUCH respect holy fuck
And the ear, it probably sounded perfect to all of them long before it did to him.....he lives in the extremely fine details that they weren't even hearing. Most people are extremely satisfied with 90% and that last 10% is for the true perfectionist who sees things to correct that no one else can see (or hear in this case).
Wow, I didn't realise there was THIS much going on in the song. Seriously impressive, seeing the sticks flying around like that. Great job!
As a guitarist I haven't developed a drum ear so this video blew my mind in that way.
Is this actually like the studio recording or just his interpretation though?
@@Heatwave9000 it’s very very similar to the studio recording
This was him learning to play the studio recording as close as possible @@Heatwave9000
Wakerman really knocks the drums out of the park on this whole album. Hes doing a lot of intricate stuff in the songs. I think most of the songs are as busy as this one, some even more.
Drumeo is the greatest invension since the internet itself. You've made us wannabe'ers closer to our idols, and we can learn much faster than ever before. Keep up the great work! Thanks! ❤
You can tell he wanted to get it absolutely spotless. Given the purposeful time constraints he did an amazing job!
His focus, his persistence.. what a classy musicianship! 🙌🏼
He took the challenge very seriously! Now I realize how important it is to give your all in your performance! That's what a pro does.
For this concept it was not necessary I believe.
@@elikebudithe dudes a perfectionist haha
That drum sounds amazing 🤘🏻
Still cant believe that he's the new suicidal tendencies drummer
Him and Josh Freese man, the MASTERS of ALL!
Wait, is he really? That's crazy. I only know him doing Jazz stuff besides this video.
@@esoteridactyldudes been going so hard at rock now it’s insane
Ben Weinman still in ST? That's a fun pairing.
@@bobunitonehe is
Brookes is an insane drummer, its hard to keep up with his change in tempo and rythme
It’s crazy because we all loved The Rev so much but Brookes actually fills his shoes & even maybe then some
The guys nuts, Jimmy can rest peacefully knowing his replacement is suitable
@@stay60feetawayfromme33 Brooks is better than the Rev in my opinion. Jimmy was creative as fuck but Brooks just is so technically perfect.
@@laundrie I absolutely agree. Jimmy was a fantastic METAL drummer but Brooks is just flat out a better overall drummer, and this is coming from someone who LOVES their first 4 albums.
@@TheDude044 really hard to gauge who’s better imho. The rev contributed full songs for avenged , sang and was a great drummer. Even if brooks is technically better you really can’t compare the two because the rev died very young. 28 years old I believe? Brooks at this point in Time is much older than the rev was. There’s no telling how much the rev would’ve progressed if he was still around not only in terms of drumming but everything else as well. Again just my opinion.
@laundrie I feel like Brooks fits the style of the band now and Jimmy fit the more thrashy younger band.
I have had that same look and feeling of utter frustration sitting at the kit. For far, far less complex things. Greyson is a phenomenal drummer. All of these pros have worked incredibly hard for long hours to be as good as they are. My hat is off to them.
I'm seriously impressed by his performance here. Watching the "drummer cam" for A7X on this song, I think Greyson's work was much more dynamic and visually enjoyable. Excellent work.
Shows how difficult the song is to play when Greyson is struggling!
Because Brooks is an alien 👽
Grayson is a jazz drummer. It isn’t his bag, baby lol.
@@walpurgisnacht9234 brooks too is a big jazz player himself he just ties it in with punk and metal lol
Any drummer no matter how good will find it challenging in some way to learn someone else's material.
@@walpurgisnacht9234 Grayson is also Suicidal Tendencies' drummer
Greyson - what a sound - that was great - exciting to watch you do that!
That solo at the end is crazy good, so in tune with the melody. Impressive!
Its so cool seeing you doing big band covers in such a little time. I saw you at a clinic a couple weeks ago actually in Seattle and watching you go from Jazz to Big Band is just crazy. That's the level of drumming I want to get to just gotta keep practicing.
Nice playing Greyson! Love how you can just jump into any style and kill it
I absolutely LOVE Greyson and hearing him nail my current favorite song gave me chills man
Amazing performance. Greyson is just incredible!
Greyson is an absolute drum beast, love the guy. I think he’s going to go so far in his career and become a name every drummer knows
Hes an unbelievably amazing drummer. And thanks drumeo for showing that drumming is a process and its not only ok to make mistakes while learning, but its part of the process. Some tik tok drummers really kill those young drummers dreams fast with their editing and production to make it seem flawless when its not
Absolutely outstanding. Enjoyed watching your process and the final performance. It gave me a real appreciation for the breadth of your skills.
I love all of your videos and the drummers you have on, but it seems like any video Greyson is in becomes one of my favorites. So much talent and I just dig his personality all around.
These are really becoming a deep look into how different brains process and output new information while doing a similar task. Really cool!
Such tremendous performance. The mental aptitude to keep working the song until he is satisfied. Not leaving any stone unturned. Thats very remarkable
Loved that final take and the mastery involved with "learning / creating on the FLY!" .just amazing as usual Greyson!
one of my favorite albums! its so fresh and absolutely subverts every expectation. just amazing work all around and fantastic drumming from both drummers!
It was so F----- joyous seeing him get the solo fills, loved every second of this. A true masterpiece :)
I love this song!. They did this song at their concert on July 18th in Camden NJ. It's one of my favorite songs from their new band!. Glad you could do a cover
Holy crap this dude is good. He may be young but he’s a grown a$$ man on that drum kit. His toughest challenge is going to be staying humble and decent. It’s got to be tempting to give in to the constant praise. So far Grayson seems to be stable and well grounded. Good for him, but what a monster. His talent is undeniable.
staying humble? he's not new to the praise lol he's BEEN doing this shit
You know what, let him have a bit of pride in his hard work! He deserves it.
He's had praise for a looong time. No one this hard on himself (or herself) so far into something gives in to pride.
This man is so hard on himself it’s crazy to even think of him having trouble staying humble lol
@@yungskrillI think he more means praise over the course of decades
Guitar player here, every Drumeo video I watch just increases my respect for drummers. Watching him take in the track and zoning in on each section to the final performance was absolutely insanity.
I love that you showed some of the difficulties and left some small mistakes in there. Thank you for this.
Greyson's a beast.
I need more of these this was amazing!!! Thank you. And that song is sick. Didn't even know they had a new album
Awesome drumming as always from Grayson. Love his swing and swagger at a kit
God damn Greyson is such a beast of a drummer! Thanks for these Drumeo!
Unbelievable! He killed it! Well done sir!
Crazy cool grooves on this song!! Greyson is siiiiick🤘🏽
Love it, the process of getting to the final product is the best part!
New sepultura drummer, who would’ve thought
Greyson works so damn hard. He’s a talented musician but thats only uplifted by his hours and dedication spent at the kit.
Genuinely impressive and a lot of fun to watch
Thank you for your dedication and showing us your amazing talent ...
Every time I watch Greyson I am in awe of his passion and respect for his craft. Such a talented guy!
I'm amazed by the talent this dude has and I feel inspired by this video, even though I don't remember ever touching a drum
It is obvious why he got the Suicidal Tendencies gig. Mike don't hire scrubs at any instrument. Top young talent. Can't wait to catch a show, or even better, a new album with Greyson on the drums.
ST4Life!
Probably watched final take a dozen times now, it’s just so good! Good song choice for Greyson too.
Mind blown - respect - that was awesome to watch. Well done!
His ending alongside the guitar solo was incredible!
This series is amazing! I Love every episode!!
Greyson made a huge job! That was so breathtaking because this is a song that's really all about drums 🥁!
Freaking amazing! Greyson you are my favorite drummer alive today!
This guy is so much fun to watch! Y'all ever seen his caravan solo?
Pretty sure that's where we all know him from.
I find it hard to think that the people around here are not drum enthusiastics, so I believe that the vast majority of us have seen it
Ya it's crazy
Those drums sound phenomenal!
Duuuuude this is ridiculously sick 🤘 Major props man, crazy stuff right here!
enjoyed this. i cannot drum (or play a air guitar) but I really appreciate the musicianship of these series of videos and Greyson's talent is already epic.
Very nice perfomance. Thats an elite level. That was sick!!!
That snare sits so nicely in the mix.
The whole kit
Would love to see an extreme metal or a metal drummer trying out a jazz piece!
He was a metal fan too
Dirk Verbeuren from Megadeth playing Mr. Brightside was pretty cool.
Awesome song and Greyson killed it!! As expected.
Awesome!!! There's nothing like being put on the spot, and pulling it off. Great Job!!!🤘
I was happy to see him struggle through it like most of us would. Nobody wants to see someone perfect. Very relatable.
“Alright Brandon” loved the tension 😂
Awesome. It's amazing to watch the process of great talent.
You are f@#king amazing!
I like that he is a perfectionist.
10:16, was not at all expecting that it and it worked so smoothly in there.
Love these videos! Would be great to see what the drummers are writing down as well :)
This guys good, he wants to nail it, and of course they have the talent - impressive. Love seeing this personal deconstruction take on songs.
I wish there are similar videos for good old classic Jon Theodore-era Mars Volta songs. Some of them are still challenging to learn 😅
I was gonna say the end of the song reminded me of Jon Theodore.
@@vaticpillars yeah, it is a similar linear phrase with right hand and a bass drum playing in unison. I would like to see a face of a skilled drummer listening to the robo-talk part of “take the veil cerping taxt”, lol
@@b10buzz lol oh man
Some Tetragrammaton or Cygnus would be sick as hell
This was actually pretty cool to watch. He was being hard on himself for not being as good as he knew he could be, but even then it was a great final session!
The drums are what give this song life. I just love it. Hard to not make a grimace of satisfaction when the chorus comes in.
I keep coming back to this video i've lost count oh man his drum kit just sounds so freaking good can't get enough of it
That was absolutely insane. I love his perfectionist attitude. Just wow.
Greyson is just a Monster on the drums!!
Greyson's symbols always sound great. What an incredible talent. thanks for posting.
Greyson is amazing...wow what intensity and focus on his craft
Gaaawwwddd this kit sounds like it was mic’d by the drum gods themselves. Sounds so good. 🤌
It probably takes most drummers a lifetime to lay this track down and these guys and gals featured on the channel are doing it in just an afternoon or less. I'll never make any drummer jokes again, great musicianship and skill are universal, even if he would just play the triangle.
Dude -you CRUSHED IT at the end, nice F*%kin job Bro!
Very nice to see how fast he learns it but also how hard it is. Loved this👌🤘💯🥁
What mistakes..lol. Awesome take, Greyson. Getting primed for the Suicidals gig, love it.
*pauses* OKAY, BRANDON. 🤣 I love these series! Keep it up!! 🥳🔥🩷
Awesome proving video that we ALL learn as we go. Don't be hard on yourselves folks!
8:59 that fill what grayson pulls is so damn good. So much speed, power and precision in in a few seconds utilizing most of his drum kit in a perfection.
When something like this happens, I just want to watch it over and over again...
Man his technique is something to see… So. Crisp.
Excellent cymbal and ride work!
Love this kid! Just saw him with ST and ran into him in the snake pit , super cool kid! Super young with incredible skills he will only get better!!
