Is it the PCV system that causes the black gunk in the intercooler?
Yes it is 👍
@@DIYDiesel
Is it safe to say that coating on the inside of the intercooler reduces its efficiency?
@@lewisgeer1994 absolutely! It will gather at the bottom of the intercooler hurting efficacy, and also the possibility of adding unwanted minerals to your cooling system. Which then those miners start to corrode internal parts of your cooling system.
How do you clean it out?
I got an lbz and watching your video helped me repair that line bc they no longer make that part and mine was broken
Something wasn’t jiving with the fittings that came with my kit I bought and the bolts were a pain to get back in. I actually managed to break a bolt off running it in. Didn’t seem like the holes were really lining up right. Seemed like the fitting was tight thanks to the o ring but if it gives me problems I’ll have to try and get the bolt out and chase the threads and start over
Damn that doesn’t seem right; ya mine lined up perfectly. Hopefully you can get that bolt out easily 🤞🏼
Why wouldn’t you just add a catch can in between the PCV and Turbo? That would eliminate oil going into the turbo.
Also remember all Duramax people that the PCV does affect oil pressure. I’m assuming this makes it better but I wouldn’t do anything that would allow it to drop because the Duramax already has high volume but low pressure
That's interesting, I did it and it was pouring out oil from what it appeared to me was the rear main seal. I re-installed the factory set up and no oil leak
@@rocklyncapri2681I’m thinking about trying that. Are you saying the way this guy is doing will cause this bypass to leak oil? Your saying the stock set up works well? The problem is oil going into turbo according to him however I would think getting oil in the turbo is good for it and maybe have it cleaned every 5-6 years
@@rocklyncapri2681 Did your check engine light happen to turn on after?
Mine did… plus the turbo doesn’t sound as loud either.
Thanks brother, great informative video! Lmm Duramax parts on the way! PVC right on brother great 👍
That’s awesome! 🙌 love a good Lmm
Hold on! Don’t leave the end of that hose you ran down there open? You’re not worried it will suck air into the motor?
Best video i have seen on this
🤘🏼 thank you!
i’m looking at a lbz right now and the guy said doing a pvc reroute will cause it to blow some stuff out of the oil fill (like blow by) but it’s not even enough to move the cap off the top. i’m not sure to trust him or not cuz i’m new to diesels
It won’t cause anything to blow out the oil fill. That’s the purpose of doing this is to not recirculate it.
@@DIYDiesel okay, a friend of mine that is more experienced than i am with diesels said it’s not a big deal if it’s only a little
@@ryanteed6006 yup he would be correct 👍
@@DIYDiesel thank you!
just wondering why my truck has 534000 km. and have no problems what so ever all original just rusting out a bit. it’s an lbz. no deletes
Found you on TikTok love the channel
Awesome man! appreciate it 🙌
i own 2006 chev 3500 lbz
537000 km and have no problems what so ever
the truck is original everything.
bit of rust. just wondering why i don’t have any problems. everything running fine. just curious.
I have this done to mine but seems like water comes out could it be condensation
Good vid, thnx. A bit of unrequested constructive critisism... take a second to gather, layout, and photo all the new parts before installing, and layout and show all the parts/materials you removed. Where did you put the catch can, and was it part of the kit?
Awesome feed back! Appreciate it 👍
Fucking awesome! Straight to the point, noo bull shit. Had all the information necessary
Appreciate it 🤝
Hi .new subscriber . My 2005 duramax keeps failing emissions in CT. Frank .
So you just leave the bottom hose on the t dangling in the fender well? Or does it hook to something?
I have it going right down the fender well. Some people throw it in the frame
Just did mine and used the Lincoln diesel kit you used. I just have a question are hose clamps needed? I don’t want oil to start to seep out of the connections.
thanks for this video. Love what you do. This video was very informative to me. But I have a 2003 duramax and can seem to find how to do it. I recently did the oils change and now the truck started throwing smoke from my exhaust. So I thought this would help me in a way. Because the dealer told me that it can be that the pvc is drenched in oil so that can be the cause. I was excited about the video, came to look under the hood and noticed that I don’t have that on there 😢. Is there a way I can do the reroute still or no. Or is their a solution that you might know for my problem that I have thanks.
Thank you! I have a LB7 that we will be doing allot of work on here this year. In regards to your situation there is no actual re route to be done. There is a valve that you need to replace to trouble shoot that issue it’s $110.00 Merchant Auto Part Number: 97302067
Good morning,
I did change that part and it did stop throwing smoke for 30 min then started doing it again. Is there another procedure to it. Do I have to clean something on the truck like hoses or something. I did run the truck like this for like 3 months. The trucks power is there. There’s no lack in anything. But I don’t like driving the truck with everyone looking at me all weird. Thinking I’m going to start a fire or something. Thanks.
@@joseestrada2932 are you throwing any codes?
No I am not throwing any codes
$65 for it what na all i need is a plug and a T with maybe a ft of hose $12.00 home made
Ya you can definitely do it cheaper 👍
Good video do you have a video on installing the oil catch can and where you installed it under the passenger side.
They didn’t do it
my lbz has a whine that isnt a boost leak and the pcv broke and has a bad connection to the turbo mouthpiece. could that be the case? i would just replace it with oem/oem+ but i cant seem to find a replacement anywhere online or from gm and i fear passing inspection and leaving oil spots on the driveway with a pcv reroute.
Pvc reroute won’t deal with anything for emissions. It won’t effect the results
@@DIYDiesel do you think the bad connection to the turbo mouthpiece could be causing me to hear the turbo louder than it should be, resulting in the loud whining noise? thank you for the advice
wow went to order this part price was good but another $21 to ship 😂😂😂
Damn lol that’s some pricy shipping.
What advantages does this do I have a stock lbz with 5 stage tune.
This will stop circulating the crank case oils through the turbo which tend to cause smoke coming out of the exhaust as well as prevent the turbo from gumming up in the future. As this is one of the reasons these turbos need to be rebuilt around 300k+. While still maintaining the PCV system 👍
Well that explains my smoke issue on start up :( I definitely need to do this! Thanks for making this video!
Have you do the Jr Shift Kit on your duramax?
I was going to, but then decided to let it ride and save for a new transmission instead of going that route
I’m new to diesels but just a question, why did you t it off and didn’t show where you put it by the wheel wall just kinda wondering why you T the tubes? Why not just one solid pvc? And the one you ran down to the wheel well did you just block it off or what? I need to do a pvc reroute on my 06 lbz its blowing white smoke and oil in my exhaust so I think if I do the pvc reroute will that help my issue or do you think I need a new turbo and oil drain tube?
I did not show it because it is not “environmentally friendly” lol. You need the T enable to connect the two sides into the one drain tube going down the side. You could run two separate tubes, but it would add a lot to the engine bay when not needed. Also don’t block it off just leave it open you can feed it down the wheel well and leave it like I did, or throw it into the frame rail. I like to leave it to where I can see the end so it doesn’t clog with snow or mud and stuff that is possible in the frame rail.
@@DIYDiesel okey that makes sense I didn’t know there was a drain tube but alright, and if I did that would that help me with white smoke and oil coming out of my exhaust? Or do you think I need a whole new turbo?
@@hunterbuddy1 Hopefully that will help it. It sounds like it could be the seal on the turbo. I would first get some hot shots diesel extreme run a treatment of that through your fuel, and also get your injector balance rates. To make sure that white smoke isn’t coming from possible fuel issues.
@@DIYDiesel Thank you a ton I’ll look into it when I order my new one! Love your videos though man thank you for replying to me and giving me feedback!
@@hunterbuddy1 any time 👍 I appreciate the support!
Will it cause a check engine light?
can you pass emissions with the pcv reroute?
Ooof that I do not know. I have never had to deal with that, but I would imagine so that you would still pass. You arnt removing anything that will effect a smog test.
Where is the link
I’m the description 👍 1st parts link.
What size is that plug?
The one for the resonator plug? It’s a 2” cap if your looking to use like a rubber cap from a local hardware store.
Horrible how to
Any advice on what I can improve on?
