    Can you elaborate why you decided to keep the fan shroud off? I've heard mix stories on having overheating issues afterwards with such a small diameter fan by itself

    • @DIYDiesel
      @DIYDiesel  Před rokem +3

      That’s my bad I got side tracked on that. I’ll be making a podcast episode on that soon.
      To answer your question; The main part of the fan shroud is a top, and bottom piece. Some people remove the complete shroud, and I wouldn’t suggest that. As it diverts the air in the direction intended. The blades that we took off then separate that air before hitting the fan to disperse it evenly. Keeping that off is not going to cause any over heating issues, if you are light towing or daily driving. Even with heavy hauling I do from time to time 16k+ I have never seen any issues. It is way more beneficial for myself to have it off to make routine maintenance more simple.
      Now if you are towing daily, and hauling heavy loads I would suggest keeping it on, and I am talking heavy loads not simple 10k loads. Most people that say it’s there for a reason are the same ones that say anything other than stock components are bad for these trucks. I would keep it on hand, and see if you notice a difference. If you think you are hearing more than usual most certainly throw it back on.
      I hope my opinion on that helps a bit.

    • @WarrenShams
      @WarrenShams Před rokem +1

      @@DIYDiesel Thanks for the response, I changed my water pump yesterday, I'm going to leave it off & see if there's any difference, We occasionally but not regularly tow more than 10k with our dump trailer, I've never seen my truck get hot if gets a little hot Ill throw it back on. I think everyone's experience changing the water pump is different. The hardest part of the job for me was removing the back nut on the waterpump to oil cooler, it rounded easy, after failing to air chisel it loose it turned it into a full day job, good thing I have a lbz engine tore down in my shop with spare parts, ended up cutting that pipe to remove the pump & pulled the oil cooler to change the water pipe. Not the most ideal, but sometimes you have to deal with these things when your working on 400k mile trucks. No more leaks! Thanks again for your opinion & advice in the video.

    Anyone who watches this video please replace your crank bolt/harmonic balancer bolt when you do this job. It’s a one time use bolt. Any bolt with that torque spec should be replaced. Last thing you want to happen is for this bolt to back off over time. Internal gears for oil pump and timing gear will shear off the alignment pins on the crank and spin on the crank and your engine will be junk all because you didn’t spend an extra $50 for a new bolt. This is why everyone believes you need to key the crank when in reality the torque on the crank bolt is what holds all the gears in time.

    • @paulm5871
      @paulm5871 Před 14 dny

      Yup!! And from what I read, it is best to lubricate the bolt and torque it to 74ft lbs. And then an additional 105 degrees which would equate to 325 to 390 ft lbs. Not the 260 ft lbs these guys claim.
