My defense lawyer showed up late and fell asleep during the court proceeding. If he weren't just there to handle the details of my guilty plea (I made a deal) I'd have fired him on the spot.
Oh that was 18 years ago--he's a circuit court judge now.

A one-man case for why judges need a lot of their powers revoked.

@@graysonoliver2632 A "circuit court" is just a term for a court where judges rotate through different cities/towns/counties/whatever. There are several judges in a circuit and they are assigned to cases as schedules allow. It's no different than scheduling any other kind of "appointment" with a professional. Except this professional can legally order you to die, if the circumstances are right.

Counterpoint - This is to be objective. AGAIN - Counterpoint.
Your comment is because you do not understand the life of someone who practices law. The job of a defense attorney is honorable because no one cares more about your rights. The pressure of thousands of people who APPARENTLY UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING yet seem to have "life just hit them" or some other nonsense is vast. Then they meet you. Mr. Sunshine. Right? My law school had us read 20,000 pages of information before we sat for the bar. That is a minimum. All lawyers have 7 years of post-secondary education and student loans just to meet Mr. Sunshine while trying to pay student loans from a government that underpays. The curtain, sir. Look behind it. Phone a friend. Get some objectivity, and like magic, the legal system just opens up to you and your problems. (This is a secret tell no one ;) .) As long as you understand that they are your problems, You can go to law school and be your own lawyer in this Nation. The lawyer is only their to defend your RIGHTS. Most of which you will not know.

My legal team saw the opposing party hire a so-called expert that flubbed the most basic of observations, the opposing party's witness didn't fare much better. This is during a "bad faith" insurance company lawsuit that has been ongoing since 2017, there are some flubs that the court has made with the case and resulted in the legal team tearing them a new one. Insurance cases are the worst types to deal with, it gets dragged on for so many years until one of the parties' cries "Uncle".

Story 8. If they are wanting to send you to test for a drug you already admitted to using regularly, they are not looking for evidence of that drug. They want to know what else you have been using. Refusing on the grounds it is unnecessary as you have admitted us is a good move on your part as it denies them the opportunity to go fishing for more charges. Because if that order doesn't say it is specifically for that drug only, the DA can use whatever comes back.

    >Dude wanted a retrial because of a media blackout
That might not be usual. That might have caused a stir. That's entirely up to the judge, though. They may see it as a reasonable measure to insulate the jury from information or angles about the case that did not come from the courtroom. ESPECIALLY if it's a high profile enough case that the judge can expect live coverage.
