The other day on Reddit someone was complaining about some kids doing donuts in a parking lot nearby and one of the top comments was someone suggesting that you call it into the police and claim you heard gunshots
This is just absolutely terrible advice. Not only is this lying to police / misuse of 911 which can get you in legal trouble, But can also cause problems similar to swatting where the police will show up on edge with weapons ready expecting a confrontation and This is a recipe for disaster that can can very realistically end in injury or death
It's better to just be honest and say hey there's some kids in the parking lot doing donuts It's dangerous. And they'll usually send the cop out to tell them to fuck off
They're not going to arrest the kids but they'll come send them away. I used to work at a Wendy's where the kids sometimes would show up and use our parking lot for this since we had a large parking lot that we shared with a few stores nearby.
Usually within 10 minutes of calling the police they would show up and tell the kids to leave. You don't need to lie to them

I live in a mountain with no public transit at all. My car is a necessity. However, I view it as financially equivalent to a washing machine, a computer, or a stove: all of them necessities, none of them an investment. You get them because they fulfill your needs, not because of their value. Your smartphone costs money, but you need it to stay connected in this new online world. Your washing machine costs money and loses value, but you need it to do your laundry while juggling your everyday grind. Your stove costs money and loses value, but you need it to eat proper food. My car costs money and loses value, but I still need it to go to work and to the places where I have to go.

My law teacher in college actually gave me some really great advice. I was going to college for criminal psychology, had told her it was my goal to end up working for either the FBI or the Kansas Bureau of Investigations.
2 weeks into college she learned that I’m on the spectrum. She pulled me aside and said that because I’m on the spectrum, I wouldn’t be able to work for either organization. And that my chances of being able to use my degree were basically zero. So in addition to the fact I was struggling with my mental health and on the verge of a breakdown, I dropped out. I’m now months away from completing paying off my student loan debt for the semester I took out, and have an amazing job at a law firm. All without a college degree.

    Go to college.
All throughout highschool we were bombarded with, "If you don't finish highschool with a diploma and good grades you won't be able to get a job." and then later in highschool, "If you don't go to college you'll only ever work minimum wage jobs forever."
I dropped out in 11th grade, got my GED, worked a variety of random production jobs until eventually learning to weld in my buddy's backyard with his harbor freight welder the day before my job interview / weld test for a welding job.
I passed and got welding experience that lead to other welding jobs where I got forklift certified and learned a ton of other things.
Meanwhile the majority of my generation I saw go to college did NOT end up getting high paying jobs, they ended up with massive student debt and almost nothing to show for it. And it isn't even their own faults, the education system lied to everyone and made it happen.
Pro tip btw if you want to get welding experience but don't have a way to.
BS a resume together on Indeed, apply at welding production or low level welding jobs. MIG welding, don't start with TIG. Get weld tests set up and go try the test out. You'll almost certainly make a disgusting mess and fail that interview, but you'll get a tiny bit of experience.
Then go do it again at another weld shop for a little more experience, and again for a little more, and eventually you'll get decent enough to pass one. You DEFINITELY need to watch youtube videos about welding tips, study it, don't just go in blind. And you'll need your own welding hood and gloves before you try this out. Welding skill will keep a higher paying career path open to you forever if you learn it, and this is a free way to learn.
But you WILL be annoying these shops, and they'll laugh at your garbage welds when you leave. So it's best to book these practice weld tests at places farther from home than you actually want to work. As you start getting better, interview closer to home. lol

@5:25 - That kid is a fool to listen to his parents. New cars are untested and could have severe manufacturing issues that would require them to potentially be in the shop or recalled entirely, meaning that he'd be out of a vehicle. Many used cars, on the other hand, usually have their faults well known, meaning that so long as you took care of typical maintenance, it would be far easier to anticipate what you may need to watch for.
On top of that, new cars lose value EXTREMELY quickly, the insurance on them is FAR higher (especially if you're under the age of 25), and you're less likely to be able to finish paying off the car if it ends up in an accident, meaning you'd be paying on a car you don't have while needing to pay for yet another car.

Story 9 is demonstrably wrong. There are some jobs/fields that you need a specialized degree in, yes. But since the job market is so saturated with degrees, having one keeps you competitive and it generally doesn’t matter what it’s in. Just that you have one.
Most resume software weeds out people without any degree before it even gets on a human desk. So please don’t listen to that garbage advice (ironic considering the video)
