Complete Guide to Gods: • The COMPLETE Guide to ...
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Ysgramor *invented writing* expressly to “best kill Elves”. Huge foundational cultural milestone out of sheer spite. Like inventing the wheel so you can run over your neighbor’s dog. Respect the grind, man. 👍
Honestly The Elder Scrolls is full of things like that.

Yes Man damn . . . I need to think about that
I was scrolling through the comments and he said it as i saw your comment, lmao
The 3 dislikes are *ELVES*
Based on the Night of Tears and statements from Gelebor, it would seem the Nords and Snow Elves had always been at war, and not only did the Dwemer and Falmer both have access to the Eye of Magnus, but the Nords hid it from them. Not surprising...I doubt the elves would be OK with Nords taking their land and I doubt the Nord's dragon overlords would be content to live in harmony with the elves. Given how long the Dragon Cult lasted, and from what the book "The Dragon Wars" tells us, Ysgramor and the other settlers brought this cult with them when they first settled in present day Skyrim back in the merethic era. It *definitely* started in Atmora.
"In Atmora, where Ysgramor and his people came from, the dragon priests demanded tribute and set down laws and codes of living that kept peace between dragons and men." -- The Dragon Wars
The Dragon Wars themselves obviously ended after the genocide of the elves, since the land is refered to as "Skyrim" by this point and not "Mereth". Unrelated, but if I had to guess, I think Skyrim got its name after the sky-borne dragons that ruled it. That said, the dragons would have actually been dethroned around Ysgramor's time. He and Ahzidal lived in the same time period. Ahzidal and Miraak also lived in roughly the same time period. Miraak was made Dragonborn to put a stop to Alduin. In addition, Hakon One-Eye came to Miraak for help against Alduin, so we know that Hakon, Gormlaith, and Felldir must have defeated Alduin around this time as well. It's possible Hakon and Ysgramor were a generation or two apart, but whether it was in his lifetime or shortly after, Ysgramor's life and the end of the Dragon Cult would roughly coincide.
But wasn’t it Hakon who also went to Paarthurnax? Paarthurnax did assist in the temporary exile of Alduin.
The tablets on the Throat of the World say it was Kyne who went to him....but I doubt it. They also claim that men didn't know the Voice until Paarthurnax helped them, but clearly they did as seen with the draugr, who not only shout, but seem to have dragon as their primary language. I don't know where Hakon went to Paarthurnax or if Paarthurnax went to Hakon....I would assume the later unless Hakon otherwise had a very good reason to assume Alduin's right hand was meaning to betray him.
Thank you for this piece of Lore it answered alot of questions. Do you know when the archmages 3 sons were sealed away. One of them seem connected to the Eye of Magnus in saarthal. It seems the point where you grab the Saarthal amulet to destroy the wall, was added later by the people who sealed away Jyrik Gauldorson. Was this way after Ysgramor, and why did they seal him in Sarthaal. Does this mean the Nord King of that time knew of the Eye of Magnus
Lol dragon cult become famous in skyrim before that there were other beasts cult that were famous as dragon cults in Atmora.
And about Azhidal after conquering skyrim he became mad for knowledge and without original companions and ysgramor around he drifted to dragon cult and was rewarded with immortality aka dragon priest powers.
Agreed. If Saarthal and some other settlements were at peace, maybe it was the few Nords who promised only to remain on lands that the Snow Elves has granted them, so perhaps it was an uneasy peace, but respectable enough.
And yeah, I doubt the Snow Elves would've attacked the Nords like that even if the Nords has the Eye of Magnus. Why kill them and have a big battle when they could've gone in, seen the Eye and asked for the Nords to hand it over in tribute to the peaceful Snow Elves that let them on their lands in the first place?
A lot of the fanbase never looks at all the info, and if I was a Snow Elf, I find out they were worshipping a Daedra (Hermaeus Mora/the Woodland man) and heard whispers or caught wind of a Dragon Cult... I mean hell, they had Draugr set up in the city already, as we see in game, so...
And yeah, I heard about the Eye having already been in possession/shared possession of the Snow Elves and either Dwemer or the Nords, but either way, yeah, I certainly don't believe the Nords just found it and decided to not show their more magically adept Falmer hosts in hopes of better understanding it or just as a gift to perhaps keep relations stable.
Either way, no I'm not condoning the Night of Tears (that is, if the innocents were really slaughtered or not) but if the Snow Elves were trying to retrieve their stolen artifact, or if it was in response to Atmoran instigation or aggression, I'd understand why the Snow Elves would've kicked them out of Saarthal.
Maybe a few were killed (or a lot, since the Snow Elves would've been better prepared to fight if necessary) and perhaps forced to leave the City, and the real Night of Tears was maybe their banishment from Saarthal, which was maybe razed afterwards by the Snow Elves. Ysgramor would've been one of the few hardy people to survive the journey back to Atmora.
Either way, we'll never know the whole truth, and we're never gonna know the Snow Elven side of things. Not saying their innocent, but I'm certainly not saying they're guilty either. I take this whole thing with a grain of salt. Whatever the case, butchering every Snow Elf in sight was barbaric and was nothing short of an Ethnic Cleansing of an entire Civilization, culture, history, and nearly ended their race on top of that.

One of the tribunal went there and found nothing but frozen bearded kings
Not my words: Windhelm was founded by the legendary Ysgramorand the crew of his ship, the Ylgermet, following theBattle of the Moesring in the late Merethic Era. According to Nordic tradition, after the Five HundredCompanions disbanded, the Ylgermet's crew stumbled upon the barrow of Yngol, Ysgramor's son. When Ysgramor looked south and saw where theWhite River flowed into the Sea of Ghosts, he decreed that a great city should be built there to serve as a monument to the glories of mankind, a place from where he could gaze upon the hill of Yngol's barrow, and a gateway to guard Skyrim's interior against incursion via the river.[4]
The 500 Companions are quite intresting to me. It's crazy to think that only 500 Atmoran's were able to completely decimate The Snow Elf society. I did hear a theory that they were assisted by Dragons in exchange for the Atmoran's worshipping him.
They were incredibly powerfun, and the Falmer society probably didn't populate Skyrim densely, so 500 vs 5 thousand is a lot, but 500 vs one thousand at a time is much more manageable
A night without new fudgemuppet videos, now that’s a “Night of Tears.”

Ysgramor and The Atmorans: *Settles in Skyrim to escape a civil war*
Falmer: *Attacks the Atmorans*
Ysgramor: *Genocide time!*
(Jk)
the reason the elves attacked was fear at the growth rate of men as within a few short yrs they were huge numbers of them and they feared the idea of having to fight to share the lands they lived in this and the eye of magnus led them to belive that man would expand by force the funny thing is that until the night of tears they were fairly peaceful towards the elves
It’s like the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor...
The Night of Tears is like Emergence Day from Gears of War the Beginning of the Human-Locust War where the Locust Horde emerged from the hollows and attacked the surface killing all humans for their survival.

Great video! Thank you fudgemuppet!!! Men and Mer should bow before the mighty Khajiit!
For some reason I thought that Ysgramor had two young daughters that were killed on the night of tears. I had thought he arrived back on the shores of Atmora carrying them in his arms. That’s a very specific misconception
Thanks for the video guys. They always makes want to start Skyrim again
You are KILLING me with these daily videos
I’d like to know more Argonian and Khajiit lore
Bagsy yesssss
Khajiit come from Elsywer...hehe im funny
The part I don't get is what exactly happened to Saarthal. It is said the snow elves destroyed it but Ysgramor went and reclaimed it from the snow elves...and both the fact that he bothered reclaiming it and the fact that the snow elves had it fortified blatantly indicate that it wasn't actually "destroyed", just damaged and pillaged.
But then why not repair Saarthal to it's former glory if you are going to go about building other cities anyhow? The first Capital and first significant human settlement really seems like it would carry more cultural significance than to be left to crumble and fade.
The thing is, it is completely buried...was it always a subterranean city to begin with? If not then my guess is that there is some unwritten lore here, and that Saarthal was actually buried in a landslide at some point and they gave up on it. It is the only thing I can think of to explain why it is buried and why they would just abandon the site of (from what I understand) literally the oldest human city in all of Tamriel...
It was turned into a burial crypt in honor of the victims of the night of tears. Honestly, who would move back into the house where like 100 people got merc'd. The part about it being buried is cause its in fuckin winterhold. Shits cold as fuck and dangerous. Its location at the base of a mountain would mean thousands of gallons of water would drop onto it when the snow melted in the warmer seasons and then freeze in the winter. Plus its several thousand years old so im sure at some point, its location was lost.
@@ihateyou5463 i always thought it had something to do with the Eye of Magnus. The snow elves attacked because of it, and Ysgramor tried to keep it down there away from anyone.

You guys have to check out greedfall, and should do builds on it. It's an up coming RPGs with lots of choice, companion options and customization. It's set in the 18th century on a long forgotten island. I don't know I just thought you guys would think its cool.
On a side note, I personally believe that the unknown and conflicting histories of Talos' race and origins is a side effect of a parallel universe to our own where there was an Elder Scrolls Game where you were Talos with DLC expansion packs where you ascended to godhood.
2:00 Just saying, you guys skipped over the fact the atmorans and snow elves were friends before the night of tears. It’s what made the attack even more shocking and saddening.
Fudgemuppet must have been visiting apocrypha to know all of this knowledge.
Is it just me or does Scott’s voice sound a lot more silky then usual
When my first orc got this weapon, I honestly laughed at the irony.
I always viewed Foxes as good luck charms or good Omens, do you think that was the idea when they made Skyrim? It seems vaguely possible with this story about a fox killing the rabbit.

They should do a Netflix series on Ysgramor
So... Remastered Harbinger build when?
What mod is it for the enhanced swords?
Ahhhhh aaaa, I come from the land of ice and snow from the midnight sunwhere the elve blood flows
Could you do a video of magic vs weapons in a lore context? Sometimes I don’t understand how mages could ever be defeated by even a group of warriors with simple weapons. With this thought, I wonder how the more magically adept elves ever lose to typically more weapon oriented humans.
The 500 Companions had Ahzidal as their mage, they had shouts, they possibly had dragons, and the atmorans were clearly superhuman. So, a nord from ritfen charging a thalmor archmage sounds dumb, but a greybeard wielding a gigantic spear...sounds far more even
Any elder scrolls Lore of any kind is fine with ,I'm interested in all its lore.
So the white deer thing, Hircine? I wonder how that would go considering Hircine is pretty honest and cool, like to the point if it was Shor was watching and didn't interfere.
Proof who build Windhelm:Captive elves were forced to build the city in the architectural style of their captors, and it is alleged that as many elves died during Windhelm's construction as were killed by the Ylgermet's crew before they had arrived at the site. The city's great bridge was designed to allow a vigilant watch on the White River for elven attacks, and Ysgramor's palace, the Palace of the Kings, towered over the city to show man's dominion over the very winds that had caused Yngol's death on the voyage from Atmora. An elaborate tomb was built in the catacombs beneath Windhelm to serve as Ysgramor's final resting place upon his death, but was never used because he chose to be buried by the sea.[4]
I think the war that broke out in atmora was a war between the atmorans and the giants probably the dragon priests as well ysgmr apparently has killed several giants before.
you should do a ysgramor reborn build.
AMAZING
Technically...
The Dragonborn’s Name Is Ysmir Stormcrown...As Ysmir is What he is called
and Stormcrown is what Talos was called befor he ascended to Godhood, and Tiber Septim was a Shezzarine, And Dragonborns we’re notably shezzarines
Wuuthrad, the coolest looking worthless weapon
I think the rueful axe is the rightful owner of that title.
@@Ed_man_talking9 Another fantastic looking well polished turd
@@Ed_man_talking9 yeah but the rueful axe is supposed to be bad. Because you only get it by taking clavicus's deal. And all of clavicus's deals end bad for the person making the deal.
I know, but comparing it to Wuuthrad, it's just worse, Wuuthrad at least has a more damaging "towards a small niche of enemies" enchantment, but you can combine it with the elemental fury shout and have a faster swinging enchanted weapon. it might not be meta but it's fun. sadly it's double bitted, and I cringe when ever I see an ax head with two symmetrical edges.
I was going to have your head for saying something like that, but then I realized it seems not to upgrade, so being better then a normal ebony battleaxe means nothing.
We need a mod where Ysgramor ignored the fox and listened to Herma Mora. Another event similar to when the Chimer became Dunmer.

I do so love the level of background lore written into the background and witnessed in the Elder Scrolls games. It is enough to make me forgive much of Bethesda’s stupider decisions, won’t be enough to even pretend micro-transactions are tolerable if they load them into Elder Scrolls VI like they want to.
Thanks
I have a question, how did Azidal get to Solstheim
3:42 Did you mean Windhelm instead of Winterhold? It seems more logical considering it was the first city in Skyrim and was founded by Ysgramor.
