“The world has enough disappointed people, you should try to be something different”. Man, i needed to hear that.
Impressive short. The black and white was a great move too.
Hi there! Was wondering if you could help me for a bit? Could you tell me what's she saying at minute 10:46? I need it for a subtitling class and I can't understand that line at all. Thanks!
@@NstefN i think she says “the truth is the world....” then theres a large pause, then she continues “the world has enough disappointed people”
@@raerae6422 I think you are right. I had to run this several times to get it.
The black and white aesthetic is divine! But even if technology advances students will still have problems that only human interaction can solve. Humans need humans, there’s no substitute for emotional connections.
Great observation! Are you a teacher?
Sad that her talent getting exploited is the only way to escape abuse.
Sometimes the "better" alternative is not the best outcome.
her and the Beatles.
They got her first design. (and she got some peace). They won't get all of them.
Our culture, East and West, is about who dominates and dies and who is dominated and will grow.
A dope take on virtual school. This could become reality. Learning at your pace is way better in my opinion. It's a way everyone can be on the same understanding and mentally coexist
Loved the end where the teacher offers her safety within her home and she embraces her teacher for it, and the teacher allows herself to feel compassion and empathy... embracing her back. (Filming it in Black and White was perfect)
That's really powerful. My wife's a teacher, and a Sci-Fi fan. I need to show this to her.
The teacher sitting at the desk doing essentially nothing except wait for a problem that needs real human attention reminds me of George Jetson, who had the incredibly taxing job of pushing a button every few minutes. (Or something to that effect. It's been many, many years since I saw that cartoon.)
That was also one of Homer Simpson's jobs. :)
feels like a futuristic telling of Matilda - great film. Black and white allow you to focus on so much more and is more intimate.
I had a teacher who helped by just being there and listen..He saved me in many ways..
Pay that forward as often as you can. 💖💖💖
@Joseph Marton I really hope that people find the courage to ressurect that fact. Without what makes us human, we are lost.
My granddaughter whom I took in and raised from an infant just started her first year teaching. She has a tattoo on her thigh which reads “ it takes a village”. She wants to be that teacher who makes a difference.
@@Curiousever it takes a village to raise a child..yes indeed
Has to be added that I met him on the street 30 years later, invited him for a coffee and thanked him for being such a good friend.. And a human being.. He's not a teacher anymore, but he's still a great listener..
Once again Dust presents a movie that draws you in and makes you want to see where they're going with these characters. I really enjoy these movie shorts but at the same time hate the short length of these movies because I want the story to go on a little longer. Again, a great movie.
That was nice. I sometimes forget that sci-fi doesn't always have to be doom and gloom. Thanks for reminding me. I'll try to translate that to the films that I make.
@Bruce IDW true but everyone in awhile... a happy ending can't hurt.
@Bruce IDW😂😂😂😂
@Bruce IDW Lol.. that's like the way Frank Dillane wanted his character Nick on Fear the Walking Dead to die. Nick barely escapes some big zombie ordeal to save the day only to slip on banana pill, hit his head and die. But no, show runners thought getting shot in the was the better death 🥱
Happy endings can teach us as much about ourselves as sad endings can. Sometimes even more, because it teaches us what to reach for.
Clever choise with black and white...
Really great guys!
It's even a better compliment... when you don't even remotely notice the lack of color. Then you know it's a great film 😎💞🖤
My guess is it's supposed to show that race doesn't matter, but if you look at the ethnicity of the "good" and "bad" characters it's pretty clear the decision makers of this film is not color blinded about race at all.
One of the best Dust presentations I've seen in a long time. Very well done.
Raises a number of interesting issues over ownership of rights. This one has a happy ending, which is encouraging.
interestingly as she has no parents and the state can't sign a licence for her like that legally she still owns the design
If you sign away your intellectual property rights then you have none.

Do highschool sports teams get a cut of the ticket sales? Does the glee club get paid for performing?
Demonstrates that a student can be successful despite his or her socioeconomic circumstances. So let's turn schools back into schools and teachers back into teachers. Down with equity! Equality for all.
@@DaveWard-xc7vd That is an unfortunate truth of our society.
Right now schooling here in the Philippines really is tough, because average and below can't afford an online class that's why most students here is only at their houses and doing nothing hope this pandemic is gone feel sorry them can't enjoy their youth as a kid
Pierce Kadriel Vincent Garcia pasensya po kuya, I hope things get better. I will pray for you.
Doing nothing??!! Oh my, I loved being at home..I could find many things to do in my own space that I hated being carted off to school. I still do. I do not have television, not for decades, I limit internet and most times I do not have a signal, I am in a cell dead zone..while home, my cell phone continually searches for a signal it will never find. Plus, my land line is so antiquated that most days that I have no dial tone. Fun and learning can happen at any time, you do not need a building or online connection to teach. Teach them something useful from your life, farming, making food, gardening anything...do not waste this time with your children.
They can't play outside enjoy their youth because of this pandemic we don't know who is also a carrier of this virus
@@TheAstroflight but still many believe sad
@@Kev-3006 thanks
One of the best films I have seen here in Dust. Love everything, great direction, design, story .... Congratulations to the filmmakers and success for them. 👍
Yep, “distance education” happens inside classrooms, all the time, everyday.
Distance Education isn't a quick pass. It requires motivation and discipline.
Question: What is a Krebs cycle in your own words?
That's one question and you only have 1 hour for the test. You also have to lock your computer from the internet during the test.
Teachers now have the ability to scan your test answers and your written papers for plagiarism.
😉
Lisa: Sorry, my comment is an attempt at being facetious. I am referring to the emotional distance, and cognitive distance, between the teacher and the learner. In my opinion, often what is being taught inside classrooms is too distant from the needs of the learner; what is taught “next” is what the teacher wants, not what the learner needs.
@@UncleWally3 Thank You. You actually made my point. A really good teacher, either in the room or online will motivate a student to excel at the students pace and not what is decided by grade levels.
@@UncleWally3 If a teacher didn't look at my test scores and actually looked at my class work? In grade 8, I tested for geometry. I only had basic algebra.
Same with all my classes. Tests amazing, no background.

Even with the silver lining, this dark cloud is terrifying.
Not fiction. This is new normality.
After the week the world has had it is so nice to have something that gives us a sense of hope
This is film; the Jetsonsis a great image and visual symbol for the perfectly oppressive modern system of production, spacely sprockets.
Oh my god she's beautiful.
Yes, they are.
Indeed they. Hard to figure who he means, when there's many.
they are all
The teacher is gorgeous and the student
@NappyHeaded_ZeroCombs "they memorized me"
I think you mean "they mesmerized me."
Me too.
so far this has been the best short on Dust. My marriage was so much like this.
Very nice story. That lady has a very nice classic Studebaker as her "old car"!
Love and change of mind is what most of this world needs!
The Mark of a good teacher is more than trust and knowledge, it is guidance to make positive decisions.
Man I love CZcams notifications from this channel.
Only notifications 😑
watched through it twice. teared up both times. This writer knew what she was talking about.
Abuse in the home can make even the most brilliant of minds want to retract into their shells.
I felt so hopeful at the end.
I like the premise of the learning company, that you get what you design and it becomes available to everyone as a consumable.
Forgot to mention I liked the black and white filming, it was important to be that way and I noticed.
Elegantly shot and edited. Ms. Hazlewood is dazzling in b/w...and the classic Studebaker is perfect.
A beautiful story, beautifully told. Congratulations to all involved.
Paradoxical, the one thing I really am disappointed most about this movie is, it's shortness. The one thing which makes this movie amazingly great and likable is, it's shortness!!!
Paradoxically Excellent short!!!
Rebecca Hazelwood! Great actress. Been missing from my screen too long. Love her as the AI Teacher in particular
So the future of affordable housing is basically "The Jetsons" buildings?
Great show - nice pace, great story line and good acting.
Notice how all the movies about the future are less than optimistic. Greater technology. Greater education. Greater achievements. *Far* less humanity.
nobody Uknow disappointing
I thought this was depressing AF. I’m the future it’s all about becoming increasingly more ruthless in the exploitation of children. This species is so fucked...die out already, die humans die.
@@ambersjamsenterprises6909 Yeah, if the human race ever actually invented a time machine, I think the best thing they could do was use it to save the world. Not by sens humans into the future or to warn the past but to learn from it. Send the entitled, narcissistic and loveless people back to a time when technology was the train or telegraph. They'd learn to work with others, do their share and most important learn how to keep their opinionated attitudes in check.
Or we could just sens the entire human race back to a time before hey started ruining the earth, then destroy the time machine. haha. Think it would be as easy as rebuilding a new time machine? Weelll, maybe. They would have to dig the metals out of the ground and fashion them, then all the other materials, plus build the machines to build the machines - and control electric power again. Mankind might eventually get around to messing the world up again but hopefully, somebody else will build a time machine and create a loop...........
..............Uhhh, I was just making a lengthy comment (partly because I always though it was stupid to hold IQ over moral values), but that came out sounding like a story that you'd actually find on YT, these days. :-}
People forget how valuable teachers are. First to have their budgets cut and last for budget increases.
Artificial intelligence teaching avatars will be along shortly. Then we can fire all the human teachers, tear down all the schools, lower everyone's property taxes, and get back to a truely self-paced, fully meritocratic educational system.
Black and white is perfect for this film and the characters. Brilliant film
Here's one of the rare ones where the feelings and the power of the message vastly outstripped the terse and condensed plot. And for the better. Well done!!
Rebecca Hazlewood is stunning!
Black and white is perfect here.
Is it me or is everyone's eyebrows on point? Out of this world...
That child is a good actor, distinct appearance. Her story- trouble coming at her from all sides, yet coping with her creativity by designing solutions- she fixes what she can and depends on us to fix what we can.
What an amazing film!!! The actors are excellent 👏!!!
I just loved everything about it ❤. Thanks, great job!!!
I love these sci-fi short films. The ones I can understand, anyway. But this one was different; I ESPECIALLY love this one. Because not only did I understand what the filmmaker was trying to say, but it had a Studebaker in it!!!!
That was lovely. True SciFi with great story, characters and a good ending :)
Thank you for the humanity. It gets so cold in the world at times. I needed to remember. 💖 Tears and all.
We don't have to make the world into a dystopia, you know.
Great short! I think this shows just how much damage bullying & abuse does. That student who was a victim of it had a real "Don't give a F**K" attitude, because she thought everyone was against her. Very few people would know how to make her not feel threatened. Luckily she found one of those rare people, so she could let her guard down & focus on fulfilling her potential. Not all victims of bullying/abuse have that chance & potentially their whole life could be ruined.
The quality speaks for itself. My mind is blown, beautiful stuff
I liked the black and white. It represented the coldness of the human interactions. Very well done. 👍💭
Nice flick. Good example showing that good scifi begins with a good story about people.
Rebecca Hazelwood... I remember her from the UK TV soap 'Crossroads'
Not to be shallow, but the Studebaker was an unexpected delight.
Indeed!
Indeed!
Sorry about the repeat. My smartphone is a little "tricky"" at times!
Nice one, with a good ending of empathy to help a stranger knowing she was homeless yet smart and picked on
I love this.

Great story and film. Love the B&W idea. Beautifully executed.
Certified Gold!!!!!
Genius in it's purest form.
Upbeat, I love it!
Really great story, well acted and beautifully filmed.
I want to see more!! I hope they make an extended version!!?
Wonderful story. Excellent acting. Wish this would be a series or movie.
Great story writing. Great cinematography.
Great Lighting.
Brilliant but sad. The more technology the further from the Teacher. I can see parallels between covid distance learning and this but also it is reflecting the origins of teaching where pupils were sat in rows and taught towards the job they would go in. Sit in row, be obedient, be productive. There were so many layers to this along with the bullying that a lot of us experienced in childhood thrown in. This could definitely be expanded on in a longer version but thank you for this great short.
this, indeed is a beautiful story!! congrats!!
Sir it's wonderful the love, thanks a lot❤
Love this episode
YAY! 👏👏👏🥰 That ended just how I wanted❣️
Superb acting, ladies! 👏🌹🌹🌹
Stay ’safe’, everyone! Blessed be~🌜
Love this film. Really great and expect to see more quality works from the makers of this. Only critique i have is that the sound was a bit bad. had to turn on the CC and that can make things a bit surreal some times.
I saw auto-gen CC and turned it back off immediately. Glad someone else mentioned the sound problem because I'm often not sure how bad my hearing has failed or my Asperger's has garbled the dialogue. Really wish more professional productions like this would caption their work, so much is lost to bad sound choices even on headphones. The ending still works but I'm not sure what 75% of the conversations were.
@@tirsden Luckily there wasn't that much talk and the sentences where short so it was possible for me to figure out what they where saying by leaning a bit onto the CC. I think it is David Lynch who said something along the lines of sound being the most important part of a film.
Have to agree about the sound being bad. I got two thirds of the dialogue ... at best.

Love the black and white styling. I wonder how close we are in the UK to companies owning the pupils' ideas? Corporations all ready run the Academy schools...and they don't have to follow the National Curriculum...what next?
