Ahh such an honor to get to act in this across from the amazing dia frampton! Congrats to everyone involved, especially the amazing writer/director jessi gi!!
Wow it was amazing! Wish I had a remote to teleport me where ever I want. You were also amazing Olivia! You did a great job! 💜💜💜💜
You and everyone involved...give yourselves a pat on the back from me, a well deserved pat.
Excellent work from everyone involved and my best wishes to you all for the future.
This was a professional standard production and an absolute pleasure to watch!
Very well done acting i was so into this short I wish this was a whole movie

It was amazing but I could not stop talking
Thanks DUST for featuring us! It was a blast shooting this one

Nice work brother! Would love to know what happens!
Yes we need a part 2. Excellent short. ❤️
You...
This...
Too many films start off well, then some glaring inconsistency occurs, throwing me back into my 'reality' and out of the reality I'd immersed myself into, regardless of whether it's a short or feature length.
A really good film (or book, etc) requires we suspend _our_ time/space, giving us hours, days, weeks (lifetimes and generations on occasion) in exchange for short periods of our own lives.
You have the ability to achieve this, which can be clearly seen in this short.
The cast and crew were equally superb.
I invested in the plot and characters and happily so.
I hope we see further examples of your work on Dust and know you'll go far in your industry.
Brilliant work!
Really enjoyed that
@Veater Winfrey That's very kind of you! I would love to expand this into a feature film. Hopefully we can get there one day!
Happy to see a good short scifi movie that tells a story. It doesn't need a sequel nor a prequel, it tells everything that we need to know.
The title reminds me of Scotty from Star Trek and "beam us up Scotty....." :):).
Dust should be up there in lights with sci fi greats of the past like Outer Limits and Twilight Zone.
It would be useful a summary for dummies like me.
@@t.me_s_petizioni_2220 you need a summary of a 12 minutes short movie? What didn't you understand?
Also in the bag was a note: “here’s my location. Charge this thing up and come get me.”
Yeah, really, she's a smart girl, you'd think she'd have thought it through; on the other hand; they saw her face so pretty soon they'd come looking for her so going home wasn't the best option. ;)
And listen to the lectures from Mom and Sis? Um, nope. Our heroine ain't the type.
These things are all so beautifully done but the depression takes a while to wear off.
Metro house, Jesse, Dia, Olivia, the whole gang - you guys slayed this. So proud of everyone!!!

Moral of the story: Charge your devices before going out.
Maybe it uses an iphone battery lol
Or take a spare battery. This is more realistic. She used it a fair amount, and normally in these movies, the battery lasts forever.
No, the moral of the story is that America's healthcare-system is so broken that it's a total disgrace, & on par with some of the least developed countries in the world!

@@tnbn55 Good idea!
Such a pleasure to play the stunt security guard and do some driving in this. Awesome film, even more awesome team behind it.
Banknote is *not* a healthy wound patch, kids.
*Janus Cobain*
Why not?
Banknotes are/were made of linen, until the recent plastic ones were introduced and we were given no indication when this was set.
As a stopgap dressing, it clearly shows some folk think outside the box.
The times I've seen wounded bank robbers with oodles of dressing material bleed out on screen, while I've been shaking my head at their ignorance is beyond counting.
Long ago, I gave up shouting at the screen in sheer frustration, until I realised few screenwriters have experienced real life and me yelling was never going to change that. Lol.
they seem like new unused notes at least
@@xybersurfer these - yes. And the wound wasn't real either.
But hey, my original comment was there to show that the movie dragged me in; and I'm here for such short movies. ^_^
@@jkobain
None of it was real, Janus, we got sucked in. Lol.
@Tyrone Taylor
Yes, and....?
Bacteria is everywhere, including inside our bodies.
Plugging the wound makes it less likely bacteria will enter it.
It won't stop it entirely, but reduces the chances of overall infection.
That was really beautiful and heartbreaking and shows that sometimes the kindest of souls can be pushed Into things they never would normally do to help protect their family and loved ones. Or, it can be interpreted that she let everyone see her as the bad apple because it made it easier to commit crimes to provide food and rent. Often we are soooo fast to judge others. But you know most of us are really just doing the best we can with what we have. Or are given or dealt. And I see this film as just that. Her ability to beam herself started glitching when everything else began to glitch and fall apart in reality. There’s so much to get out of this film. And so much to relate to for some of us. Except the whole beaming ourselves out of bad situations or to the er. It’s still a great concept and executed beautifully. Loved this. ❤️
Beautifully put.
❤️ ❤️
I totally disagree. It is the opposite of what you are saying. There are a multitude of people in that exact situation who do not take short cuts, who do whatever it legally takes to make ends meet. She decided a life of crime was the easy way. Stealing and hurting others without thinking through the consequences. Abandoning her family, bringing shame and stress when they find out it was her, risking her family going to jail for having the stolen cash. Just terrible role modeling to her young sister. This is moral relativism, not courageous and virtuous. She's the bad guy and the writer wants us to root for her. Just wrong. Without backstory it's a binary choice that frankly I think is a no brainer unlike Denzel Washington in John Q where he struggled with his morality. Movie makers have forgotten how to actually tell stories that make us care. Acting, special effects, production, and music don't replace a good story. And this wasn't a good story. It was sad and no one came out a winner.
I'm sorry, but for me, it's how could anyone smart enough to build it be stupid enough to use it that way.
the kindest souls turn to being criminals....mmmmm....and ultimately risk their life for money. This character will die, bleeding out wherever she is....and the result, her sister will be all alone, all for some dollars and a bloody university placement
Great run & gun mood piece, and the scaling parallel emergency situations run well together. This is an example of the dual-climax sequence done well, with good pace and editing. The cut points are crucial to make this kind of thing work so they don't stumble over each other emotionally, and I think they got it right on this one.
As far as details go, I think they got the length right, too. It was just enough to tell the story, but didn't go so long that it drags you through the inevitable paradoxes, like "How does a girl with a portable wormhole generator have any economic problems whatsoever?! She could trade that puppy in for at least a billion dollars from various organizations, and she clearly doesn't have any conscientious objections to legality or safety issues."
...but for 12 minutes, we can stay with the action and story progressions without overthinking the obvious. If it tried to run for 30 or more minutes on this premise, or if it stopped to try to justify itself with a bunch of exposition, it would fall flat and come off as horseshit. Alternately, if it tried to keep up this pace/intensity for that long, it would turn into boring mindless mayhem and lose sympathy.
As it is, it's punchy and quick enough that if you decide you don't like the details later, you can substitute settings or circumstances of your own imagining where the basic storyline would still work. This is a presentation piece, not a whole dissertation. It's a generic situation where people are acting and moving and special effects happen, and for this runtime that's enough opportunity and excuse to enjoy it.
A good short film and a good feature-length can be different in more ways than how long it takes to watch them, and it isn't even all the same things that make them good.

It's hard to believe sometimes that a stupid piece of paper with a picture of a dead man determines if you live or die.
Are you a doctor that works for free and pays all the bills ?
@@justachipn3039 Are you having to choose to have your child taken off life support because you're insurance will not pay for it? In 1982 it costed $1,000 a day just to be in an ICU room. Call your health insurance company and ask if your insurance will pay 100% and for how long. No I'm not a doctor but I am a paramedic and I have known a doctor to preform surgeries for people who's insurance would not pay or if the patient did not have any insurance, simply because he is compassionate for others. May you never face sitting next to your loved one and hear doctors say the hospital cannot provide life support any longer because your health insurance will not pay for it.
@@spiritseer9913
Thankfully, we have the NHS in the UK.
We pay a small sum towards it from our earnings, but bills, such as those paid by others around the world, would be beyond most of us.
Some have private health insurance.
I've no idea how much it costs them or exactly what is covered, but you can be sure it isn't much more than NHS costs, which they are also covered by.
The moral of the story is that America's healthcare-system is so broken that it's a total disgrace, & on par with some of the least developed countries in the world!
The whole concept of money is weird, flawed and built on a web of trust that can collapse in a moment. Castles built on sand.
I have found myself on a "dust binge"!
Lots of emotion. But couple things that end up being big hurdles. One thing is what a lot of movies of this genre stumble over, the conflict or the fork in the road scene that is supposed to be suspenseful, but is really just something that could be easily solved by the already established ability to get out of a jam.
Freezing time or time travel movies fall into that often if they aren't careful with the writing. Main character faces a problem, but the problem continues for the sake of keeping the plot going or for the sake of creating suspense when they could easily freeze time to gain and just casually walk away from danger or go back in time and start over.
The second thing, she possesses that kind of technology, in dire need of money, and she can't come up with a better way than what she's doing to get money. Can't help but think of things like she could go on Shark Tank and make and be set for life with a simple demonstration.
It was enjoyable to watch. It's just that it needed some extra things to be established with the dialogue or the plot that would allow you to accept the easy fixes that the character didn't take advantage of. I can make my own assumptions to them, such as maybe she had just created this backpack transporter. Which would bring up a conflict on being able to create it in her bedroom while being so strapped for money.
Or something like a conflict with believing that the dissemination of technology like that has a dangerous side for what it could be used for that she has to weigh against doing that so that she could help her mother.
In a world where technology like this exists, it would change everything.
Really really liked this video.
I'm 69 and grew up on the old sci-fi stories and books.
This brought back a little of that back. Good writing and good acting.
The camera work was very good also. Well done.
This is one of the best shorts I've ever seen! Well done guys. Hope to see more from you
I'm an honest law abiding citizen. If I owned a teleportation device, I'd definitely use it for selfish and illegal purposes. I gotta own it, I can't be trusted with one of those doohickies.
Yeah, that temptation, it outwits everyone.
Smarter we think we are the more subtle it becomes! Lol.
@lord of the flys please don't joke around about thingamabobs, they've caused so much damage in this world.
I would probably become lazier since I wouldn't have to prepare to be on time
There should be a sequel. A lot of questions unanswered. What then happened to her? Did she survive the gunshot wound? What of the mother? Did her sister go to college?
The whole point of a short story is just to cover a moment in time, there will always be unanswered questions. Do you look at a photograph and need to see more so you can fill in the blanks ?
You are only given important information in order to avoid all the clutter and keep it simple.
@@ianc4901 I'm not sure I completely agree with you. This was an unfinished narrative. The story would continue. Whereas a photo, whilst narrative is possible is only an implied one. It is not quite the decisive moment of Cartier-bresson.
Of course she survives.
Linen banknotes plugging the wound, used to pay a doctor, then her fare home...what a silly question.
Sister pays doctor to save mother and pays college fees.
Happy ever after, except when the baddies come after the transporter, but that's another story, so save your tears, yeah?!
Honestly, you almost had _me_ blubbering there! Lol.
Edit: Found out the story is set in Illanois.
She teleported herself out of the city, no further.
EXCELLENT!!!! The only thing is that 100.00 dollar bills are sequential and are traced easier, but the story is still brilliant. I'd go and watch this in a theater.
Yeah, she should have taken used notes, but an understandable error on the writer's part.
I blame the decent upbringing they underwent, which has erradicated any deviant thoughts. Lol.
Her sister did note that she was making drug deliveries, so she should be able to establish contacts for laundering (if they realized they are sequential).
@@billyandrew and they were pretty too.
@@1SCme Yeah, I don't think that would make a good story, it needs to stay simple. No drug deals No money laundering.

We have no proof the sister isn't exaggerating about the drug dealing, maybe imagining the worst or trying to elicit a denial to set her own mind at rest.

Everybody wants more of this film. Well that is understandable but I can't see why it just can't end the way that it does. I mean it seems to me that it has said all that it really needs to say. Nonetheless I see how others need all of the loose ends tied up and all the questions answered -- where did she get the devise, will she get home or to civilization, will she recover from her wound or arrested, blah , blah, blah...? None of those things need to be resolved. It ends here. End of story.
