    I loved this for many reasons.
    It was imaginative and compelling with all kinds of possibilities which my mind to explored as the story unfolded ! The dark dreary setting and ominous lighting created an atmosphere that was tangible and the soundscape filled it with textures. It was really well shot and the acting gave it depth and feeling, the story itself was very unpredictable and I enjoyed watching it play out.
    The only slight drawback was the dialogue wasn't too clear but I quickly clicked on the 'Captions' button to turn them on, I would not have understood much without them. I realise this was intentional as the soundtrack was an integral part of the film's atmosphere which would have been very difficult to sustain if the voices were more up front.
    Well done !

      @Jillysmom63 Před 4 lety +12

      Ian Clarke we shouldn’t have to turn on captions to find out what’s said. They can make a movie dark but there’s such a thing as so dark you can’t see what the hell is even happening, so if you can’t see nor hear it how is that good?

    • @ianc4901
      @ianc4901 Před 4 lety +19

      @@Jillysmom63 I watch on a high quality PC with large screen and cinema surround sound. Turning up the volume to hear the voices made the room shake and widows rattle so I had to keep it to a sensible level. I could hear the voices fine but occasionally I missed a word or two which I found slightly distracting as the voices sometimes got a bit swamped by the soundscape. This has a very complex soundtrack with multiple layers and channels, there is a lot more going on in this film than most others including music videos.
      When you upload to YT they compress the video and audio which can sometimes have a negative effect overall, it's impossible to predict how a video will sound after YT's compression and very difficult to create a soundscape like this one with perfect vocals that will not be messed up slightly. I don't think reading the captions is too distracting and you can't blame the film makers for YT's compression or for failing to predict or compensate for YT messing up the audio.
      I'm sure the uncompressed version would be much better, he best way to judge the quality of audio and video is on the original cut, not the YT upload.

      It seems a lot of these 'shorts' don't really have to have a meaning as such, leaving a lot of people confused in the comments. Maybe some of these are made by young wanabe movie makers trying to show what they 'could do' with a bigger budget.

      It is about creating pathways from mathematics and mind power that you can use to go from one place to another and how a married couple of scientists experimented on people and themselves in order to develop this idea. In the process things go wrong with the mind and some peoples bodies but the question is, is that an acceptable risk ?
      Did you think it was a random series of unconnected events and scenes put together to show the film makers skills ?

    🔵 The audio was all over the place, I had to turn it down because the crashing, slamming effects were too loud, but then the dialogue got buried in the background noise and I had to turn it up louder to make it out, ever aware that the background could VERY suddenly become too loud again.
    Also, the video was mostly WAY too dark, making it difficult to immerse oneself in the ambience of the story.
    Constantly having to ride-gain on the volume throughout the presentation, much of the dialog being unintelligible and the ridiculously low contrast of the video all made for very difficult viewing.
    The audio needs to be compressed/leveled and the video details need to be brightened up a bit.

      I despise those kinds of movies. So I will advise you to invest in a better video card and monitor because I had no problem watching this dark setting. As for the sound, yeah it was a bit loud and I hate it when dialogue gets lost in the ambient audio. But again, my old analog desktop speakers did a great job, despite the bursts of loud sound. So I'm taking umbrage with your comment, not hating because I agree that what you experienced sucks. Just saying my tech is better than yours.

      🔵 I believe your use of the word "Umbrage" is inappropriate here as "Umbrage" equates to taking something as an insult or being resentful of it,.... I don't believe you meant to express THAT strong a reaction to my comment.
      I keep my tablet-screen at a brightness nominal for enjoying most viewing, yet still not so bright that I use up my battery-charge too-quickly, with this presentation I had to turn the brightness up comparatively high in order to appreciate the video aspect.
      .... So, please understand that I DO have the ability to turn the brightness up-to QUITE an appreciable level, however, it goes through my battery rather quickly at that brightness.
      As for the sound, I have Altec Lansing satellites and a 12-in. Sealed ( Acoustic suspension ) subwoofer,.... But of course, the better the speakers the more annoying the inequity of the sound is,... as I like to listen to presentations such as this with the audio at an 'Immersive' volume-level.

    Here is a wonderful example of science-fiction story telling, as it reveals no matter how far and grand we unlock the secrets of the Universe, we are still hindered by our most petty emotional whims and unending desires. For this is the motivation that drives us to our grandest ventures while it also guides us towards unspeakable Madness. It is here, by which, the Angels did Fall from Grace, Wings did burn off, as they fell like Comets onto the Earth. How far will our wings carry us before the weight of our own Hubris brings us down?

    I'm a bit baffled by the negative nellies in the comments who say this has no plot and it was an incoherent mess. For me, this one of the best shorts I've seen a great big while coming from DUST. The way the story unfolded with a lot of show and only a little tell was awesome and gripping, the whole idea behind the very runic-like symbols being the gateway to the fabric of space and time, and overall production values made this a real treat. The only criticism I have is about volume: either the pronunciation or the mixing of the dialog was a bit off, and when Talya was introduced, I had to turn captions on to understand what she was saying - though for me this is a small matter, as I tend to watch everything with captions on anyway.

According to this article: slate.com/news-and-politics/2007/08/can-you-survive-in-space-without-a-spacesuit.html the bigger issue is whether he had air in his lungs or not. If he held his breath, his lungs would rupture and create air bubbles in the blood stream thus killing him. I think in the short he screamed his lungs out before being thrown into space, so that would make his lungs void of air, and thus he should be able to survive a short time in space.

    I really have this love hate feeling with videos like these. Love it because I enjoy the cosmic horror concept and the numerous possibilities the story could go, and hate it because I feel like there won't be a full length movie about this fabric concept. It pains my heart so that such creativity lack the fame it deserves.

    Dr Ignus Periant is learning how to bouncing between multiple realities in what looks to be a prison in outerspace by making marking from a notebook and then grabbing the new dimension with his hand ..Jumping between realities.he is disoriented a tad....he sees a monster in the hallway ..During a jump he loses his notebook ...but jumps to another prison cell where he meets a woman who apparently has the same marking on her body and who has been successfully avoiding the monster in the hallway by jumping To escape the monster in the hallway Dr Ignus carves the portal markings using the woman's blood on her back to force both to jump.. She retrieves his notebooks during the jump only to be separated. from him.at the end of the jump. Dr periant finds himself in his office with research paper by him and his Dr Diana Redfield ...One of Dr Redfield papers covers the research about the woman whom he had just met in the last jump with the portal markings on her body..When he leaves the office he sees this same woman slumped on the floor with Dr. Redfield holding his notebook . Redfield is his wife . She complains since he would not share his discovery with her she was taking it . Dr Ignus justifying not sharing because he wanted to only use it to help people in the medical ward and he wanted to avoid hurting people. His wife refutes him saying lives need to be sacrificed. Dr Ignus draws his own blood to activate the portal on the woman slumped on the floor and both escapes

    Very good movie. Very good story and from being an actor myself, great acting by all 3 characters. When the guy was in space and came back in the cell, he looked like he really couldn't breath and was freezing. The girl in the cell, really looked like she was emotionally unstable. And the girl at the end played her part very well too. They should all be getting more work in other projects.
