More About "Unregistered"
Set five minutes in the future, UNREGISTERED presents a sinister glimpse of Los Angeles following the passage of a one-child policy. Eighteen-year-old REKKER is desperately in love with his classmate ATA, who insists upon recording their interactions with her contact lens camera. Despite Rekker's efforts to connect with Ata, she refuses to put the camera away and live in the moment. Upon witnessing the government capture of a younger boy suspected of being an illegal second child, Rekker starts to question the world in which he lives, and encourages Ata to do the same.

Film did a great job making the world feel lived in and futuristic. Sure that goes hand in hand with this short having a large budget, but the effects, locations, and especially the wardrobe made this very immersive!
Futuristic norms
Nah this was slow and boring plus I just wasn’t feeling the cast
WRONG ABOUT WRITING. WAS TERRIBLE. YES YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE EFFECTS AND STAGING. BELIEVABLE AND TO BE HONEST WAS THE ONLY THING KEEPING ME FROM CHANGING THE CHANNEL. I KEPT WAITING FOR THE STORY TO EQUAL THE STAGING BUT NEVER HAPPENED OR EVEN NEVER CAME CLOSE. TERRIBLE!!!! THE YOUNG ACTORS WERE BOTH QUITE GOOD THOUGH. IMPROVE THE STORY NEXT TIME. THAT SHOULD BE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!!!
@@maximsteelusa4855 I would upvote you but you had to go and write it in all caps.
Understand and agree 👍
Dude, she’s just NOT that into you.............. but her sister is.
It's always the sister. Take that how you wil.... 😉
But they are Twins so same thing. 😏
So that’s why you got to try to get the sister then you can have the other sister because she will jump you..lol
What a lucky dude to get to be with the only twins in the whole city.
lol
I’m no rocket surgeon, but why didn’t he just jump in the shelter room with her until the scans were over for the evening. It was 10 feet away 🧐
In any such futurist scenario presence would be as important as absence, the A.I system would monitor every citizens position and expect to find them in a certain place .. absence would warrant further investigation .. that would be my plot plug anyway.
@@steve.k4735 I was thinking more along the lines of letting the scans happen one more time with her in the protected room, then that would buy them more times to plan and execute the escape
@@VictoryAviation yeah that makes more sense .. but such scifi always has massive plot holes to make a story .. as does most film / TV
I'm not a brain scientist, but I agree!
Qualified food consumer here, Rekker is a spy, tasked to lure out the Unregistered.
This is almost the same theme as the movie "What Happened to Monday?". What Happened to Monday is actually a very good movie.
Definitely!
Yes it is. HUUUUUuuuuge plot twist.
not quite. Emily probvably experiuences the world only from the recordings Ata made. I would love to see this story made into something longer build up the story. I can see this as a two or three movie series. That way they can take their time and make it right.

Plot twist:Its Rekker job to lure out Unregistered and the family was suspected having one. Good job Rekker!
Did anyone else freak out when she picked up the lens and just plopped it in her eye?
Yea like, seriously woman sterilize the thing c'mon!
Wtf is this comment
Yep I physically cringed... just imagine the sand on it at least *shudders*
Let's just... assume it has a self cleaning system-
It’s ok. She blew on it.
I'm bothered by the unregistered kid picked up by the scanners. Why did he look so surprised? Where were his instincts? How did he manage to make it this far and then suddenly have no apparent plan? I wish we saw more cracks in the surveillance system to make evading it for so long more plausible. (But if he was so good at evading, why did he stop!?)
it was alluded to that the population may have been decreasing, and maybe they were implying that he was taken not because he was the second child, but perhaps he was the first, and was taken due to a government "State of Emergency", but it has become such common place in society, that everyone just accepted he was the (believed to be) second child, and this was just another normal thing to happen during a day.
I was half expecting for a happy couple to go live "off the grid" and escape from it all.
I was at first, thinking the same thing, until Emily made an appearance at the end.
@@coopercovelo yep
It's easy to convince the world he's unregistered. Not like they're going to disagree with the government here. Pretty sure they'd suddenly be "unregistered" as well.
Instincts and Talent without training not operate properly.
That was harsh. To live in a world where you are an outcast just for being born unregistered by the government. Great story guys. I felt that.
And it's called China.
20th year of lockdown...
When we come out of lockdown and the Great Reset rules have been implemented.
Okay,.... Now i want a full-fledged series!!! please?
YES!!
Reminds me of one of my fav movies, "Logan's Run." Atmosphere, everything is astounding!!
@Norm T Fish, plankton, protein from the sea.
The level of talent within these short films puts the big Hollywood budget movies to shame.
I agree 100%! These short films are awesome! They make you think outside the box! Unlike hollyweird, where they have no original ideas, plus horrible writing. These short films are the answer to the movie industry to ever be good again. But pedowood, & the pretenders won't allow that to happen. They believe it's all about their worthless existence!
Nice futuristic story when love still happens, great cinematic mood thanks to the camera guy, editor and sound guy/composer! A bigger budget feeling too, Great job, guys!
So she rather gets caught - meaning she will not see him again - than to step into her protected room for another minute?
Unnecessarily stupid & nonsensical ending to a otherwise fine short film.
Ikr
Freedom.
Disagree. She'd rather be free in a prison of her own making than captive in a world without love...........................
@@Pj-hv3nw Is it though? Think about it. She was already imprisoned. There was no hope for her for the rest of her life... stuck in a cell... that she's spent 20 years in... The constant fear overhanging you, living your life through another's eyes. To her.. perhaps being sent to live in a work camp was a more rational choice.
It's not unlike being encased in you home during a pandemic that lasts decades. People are going CRAZY right now... imagine decades of it.
Incidentally, I'd be curious about the implications for the family who knowingly sheltered her all that time. What happens to them?
I do think they could have stretched it out a bit though. Like, he goes in the prison with her at first... and then says... there's a place I've always wanted to see... in real life and then they go to the forest area... at some point, they say they've got 10 minutes before the next sweep and she makes a conscious decision to stay... and then forcing him to make a decision... saying that if he's found with her, he'll be sent to the camp as well.... meaning he has to sacrifice his freedom to act on the words that he said at the beginning...
And then you do one of a few things:
- He makes the sacrifice (happy ending, I)
- She has covertly stolen his ID through some fancy ID transfer that her dad has "designed" ( cynical ending )
- The ending is left ambiguous somehow... (unsatisfying but thoughtful ending)
Agreed
A wonderful work of art!
I've not enjoyed a dust story this much since "The Leap."
I watched it twice its amazing that even when you know love becomes sad its neverending and you want to experience that beauty over and over. Somehow as awful as it is the sadness gives it even more beauty. This film shows the preciousness in the love between two people and humanity as a whole. Great job! ❤
To love your twin sister so much to do something like that is incredible. I know what it's like to be a twin.
family matters
Oh wow, that was such a beautiful ending. I was expecting something very different and that doesn't happen often; nice job, guys.
Do not harbor a hard heart, keep your eyes open and do not let the world dictate your life.
"I know you." 😢 I lost it right there.
i'm real happy for every actual original sci fi idea. very well done.
When you’re so early that there’s no comments to read while watching it
cinematography of these short films are evolving.
That ending had no real justification, other than feeling like the writer just needed it to end.
Yeah It's like they could have arranged visits or something, I know it's not perfect but that place was properly locked down like I doubt they would even get out of the front door. So now she is in a labour camp. If I were the parents I would have wrestled her into the room or at least had a contingency plan.
Great great job! Excellent acting, camerawork, cgi, editing and script. The end really moved me. Didn’t see it coming. Thank you!
For starters, during the disastrous One Child Policy in China, additional children were not taken to any camp nor were they arrested, but instead the parents were given a massive fine which is commensurate to the parents' annual income. However women caught pregnant with child beyond the first might be aborted against her will (which is obviously horrible). In reference to this video, having twins/triplets/quadruplets etc is actually okay and the government didn't fine couples for having more than one baby in a single pregnancy.
China will pay for her sins soon in a catastrophic volcanic and other natural disasters will infiltrate the nation and her technology being brought down to nothing. You can't abuse nature and expect to get away with it
This explanation actually helped me understand the underlying issue in this short...thanks for the reference😊
So sad. Beautifully filmed. Scary is that this is highly possible and probable. Loved the actors performance.
I feel like I live in the origins of this world. We need to emphasize our freedom and force the political elites to respect our natural and human rights.
@@giantfisher Spoken like a true Marxo-Fascist. When I was growing up rivers burned in this country from industrial waste. Literally on fire, look it up. The air was brown every day, every cul de sac had piles of trash. It is so much better then used to be and getting better everyday, except where the will is non-existant. I am sorry for your lack of historical perspective and cult like politics of hate. I suppose when we castrate ourselves and let the Chinese or russians take over it will be much better.
Best one I have seen. Thank you
I thought he was going to be unregistered and we'd see one of the camps. Maybe a second film? Not necessarily a sequel. Great short! 🙂🖖💕

Well written and acted. I like to think Ata twigged and entered "the room". leaving no problems. then again I am a bit of a romantic. thankye. Cheers
Id like to, too, but Emily has no chip to scan.
That seemed to be the best solution to me, too, but identical twins aren't usually fully identical at the biometric level.
I don't care whether it is totally logical or not. It's the making of...the intention and the general message that makes it good! Well done!
Wow this one looks amazing that's like a future world but a for effort very interesting I just love DUST
Emily said, "I know you". I felt my lips smiling but not my tears flowing down my cheek. Not after Emily said, "run". Life is so simple. Why do humans complicate it? We know about something that surpasses technology. Yet we choose technology. Always. Just can't understand. I love this short. Wisdom behind transient and tricky technology. Thank you so much.
It's a well shot film, though there were a few issues that I think came from reducing the run time.
First was the kid who got caught after clearly a very long time evading detection which doesn't reconcile with the level of surveillance we saw.
Second was the guy accepting the illegal sister. Unless the legal sister was doing and saying everything as commanded by the illegal one (and even then it's a stretch), he's in love with the legal sister. The legal sister telling him that her sister loves him so he should go with her instead makes no sense.
Third was the illegal sister not staying hidden at the end. She just needed to pop back in there until the scan was over, but now she's going on the run with a guy who made a promise of protection to someone else, while leaving her government employee parents to deal with the fallout of an 18-year deception (surely pregnancy scans would pick up twins?), which must have been drilled into her from a very young age. The ending of this film was really a let down :(
I also didn't like that the legal sister picked a contact lens off the ground and put it back on her eye after just blowing the germs off.
This was so beautiful, I loved it. I want more
This kind of future has already happened in China circa 1979. That was more terrifying.Time for a history lesson.
Everyone who knows what happened there needs to be drawing a parallel between it, and what's happening in the western world right now in 2021. And as with china, those of us who can see the road we're on will be the first ones to be thrown in the ditch along it. Educate your children, parents and peers in the truth.
@CatTailz
Do you have link or can you tell me how I can find the story.
@@iamgroot4706 -Just google "China One-child policy" and read more than one article to gain different views on the subject. It affected not only China but the rest of the world as well, as China opened itself up for adoption on a large scale, along with abortions and sterilization. I can't imagine government having this much control over it's population.
@@CatTalesCrafts hhmmmm... Okay, thank you 👍
...and let's not forget thousands murdered or abandoned baby girls, because they were unwanted, because every pair wanted/needed to have a son who can earn money and the parents aren't alone and poor when to old to earn their old money.
Wow! That was incredible! I bought it hook line and sinker! I had a feeling about the end, but there is more to this story. Good job in such short amount of time! A well crafted tale! Keep up the good work!
Shame on y’all for ending it like that. I needed at least one more minute to ensure their safety.
Ok. Here's the ending . They get together and as soon as she gets pregnant , he takes off leaving her a single mother and the taxpayers on the hook for her and her fatherless kid .

I'm not sure why one sister was filming for the other. Was it because her twin was in love with him not her? Its a bit creepy.
@Elani Arkady, I think you are correct. It would seem that Emily was actually the sister who was in love with Rekker. Ata’s comment about being too young to love was as much a message to Emily as it was to Rekker. As far as being creepy, I think the filming had been going on for a long long time and Ata knew the impact it was having on her sister and wanted to distance herself emotionally from Rekker for Emily’s sake. This simple little movie was quite deep in my opinion.
She was filming him for her twin sister because the sissy could never leave the house and live. So to give twin a sense of meaning in her life, she did this for her. But they both love him. (Lucky bastard. I mean twins? Seriously? DayAmmmn)
@@jbirdmax Agreed. That is how I see it also.
@@massimosquecco203 "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
You may recognize the quote from Orwell's Animal Farm. My point here is that even in totalitarian societies (Communist China comes to mind), there is a hierarchy even among the elites!
In Orwell's 1984, there was the "inner party" and the "outer party." Well, in RL, it acts much the same way. Those of the lower party who wish to become members of the higher party must play by a different set of rules to earn those privileges. Heck, those who follow American politics see it happening here, in the USA! It is the same among the 'cultural' elites as it is among the 'political' elites. Witness the cancelation of leftist J.K. Rowling for her 'mortal' sin of agreeing with someone who intimated that only women can bear children!
The sister was a real world avatar for her twin, the twin loved him. The other sister facilitated the relationship.
Very cool and timely...

Great acting 👏👏👏
Remarkably well done. Not an entirely new concept, but certainly presented in its own unique way. The visuals, CGI, acting, all of it first rate. As for this becoming a potential reality in the future, it would never happen in our current version of "democracy", but that does not mean it couldn't happen.
Of course I watch this on Valentine’s Day morning. Everyone else, including my wife of 18 years, is asleep. After watching this I just want to hold her more than anything.
The world needs more simple kind romantic gestures like yours. That was very sweet. My husband and father to our two year old with autism is unable to come to my country due to immigration rules that were imposed the last few years. We, my son and I spent two months with his daddy until covid happened and we had to come home without him. Every second of my day I cry inside for him with pain that I cannot ever put into words. So whenever you get that feeling to hug your wife-DO IT. Most don’t realize how lucky they are that the one they love is a simple walk, drive or even flight away. We can do none of those. But I’d like to hope my husband has the same feeling you do but I can’t see him or feel him or touch him to know. Have a beautiful day. 💕
Vewry nice! Unfortunately, that concept is not too far off the mark of our very near future. We're outgrowing this planet.
Actually that's not true. The global elite could have you believe this. The entire population of the US would fit inside Jacksonville FL it does happen to be the largest land mass city in the US. Check it out. This is true. In most countries just like ours 90% pop on shoreline.
Beautiful and tragic and uplifting. Love will find a way.
