    To be clear - I’m not saying this isn’t worth upgrading. I’m just being fair to the great Criterion disc while also mentioning how good a job Kino did with their disc. Kino is the winner - but for budget’s sake, maybe not everyone needs to run out and buy the 4K.

    The biggest problems with this release are that the first 20 minutes are in the incorrect color space, making the image green and undersaturated. The 2.0 track is also just a 5.1 downmix. It's not a true stereo mix like is on the Criterion.

  • @robertpreskar8233

    Kino's 4K disc has incorrect color space for the first 20 minutes. The included Blu-ray from Kino does not have this issue. The audio mixes are not identical between the two releases. Criterion has the correct original 2.0 mix. Kino's is a fold down of the 5.1 mix to 2.0, which is inferior to the 2.0 mix that Criterion offers. Because Kino's 4K disc has color issues for the first 20 minutes, one must compare Kino's Blu-ray with Criterion's Blu-ray. Criterion's Blu-ray has slightly more detail and the correct 2.0 mix. The clear winner, in regards to picture and audio, is the Criterion Collection Blu-ray of Silence of The Lambs.

    • @robertpreskar8233
      @robertpreskar8233 Před 2 lety +13

    So is the Kino blu-ray the same transfer as the criterion? Are they identical discs with different labels?

      Kino’s Blu-ray is their own with their own color adjustments.

    No, you're wrong! This is why I love having a 75 inch Sony 900f. Based on the images you're showing the 4K is clearly superior. Much love and respect btw.

      To be fair, I do sit 7ft from the screen. Just the way my tiny apartment is st up.

      The 4K is superior. But it’s not a huge difference like some others

    • @middle-agedgamer7375
      @middle-agedgamer7375 Před 2 lety

      @@JeffRauseo hey thanks for the response. Maybe not huge but based on the images you present on my Sony it's clear. I am seated 7 ft away eye balls to screen. Not all the shots were that definitive. But there's a clear difference. Based on the same type of analysis, 1984 Dune didn't have as big a difference between 4K and Blu ray as Silence of the Lambs. But then the quality of the CZcams download, the size and type of television and even the settings on the set can contribute to any perceived difference or lack there of. Bottom line, from where I'm sitting it's clear. Some one else with a smaller tv seated further away may not notice a bit of difference. Great review by the way. I'm finding myself watching your reviews more and more. I may be watching you more than spare change at this point. You're not as spoilery, lol.

    Purchase Pan's labyrinth from criterion instead of the 4k one. I kept it because sound seems better. But image dam seems yellow green compare to a dvd I have of it. Dark image even if my player upgrade image. Almost wanted to return that criterion copy.
    Receive Silence of lamb of criterion upon your recommendation .
