Haaland is playing in the wrong team.
Because Pep's philosophy is to never lose possession, he can never get the service he wants(it's only really de Bruyne that gives him it). He wants the ball played quick and direct. He wants the chaos of a transition, but that hardly ever happens with City.
He would be the perfect player for Liverpool, the way they play on the transitions. He wouldn't miss half the chance Darwin has.
man should have gone to Bayern or liverpool. Kane is a player perfect for man city
He needs to work on his balance, positioning, touch, heading or they need to change their overall approach in how they feed him the ball because in the big games, itâs not working.
All I'm reading here is that he's a slightly better Andy Carroll.
Agree
They seem very reluctant to send the ball to Haaland. There was one time where Erling came back, received the ball and started a rush. Haven't seen that in a while. He passed it as they were approaching the box but it was goos to see him run again. I think he no longer fits into the style of play that City have adopted. They want a target man who draws defenders towards him and creates space for others. As much as I don't want to say it, I think it's time to move on so he is free to do what he does best.
I was surprised that City started so slow.
Would also have started Doku. City were pedestrian and Jack slowed everything down by having a few touches and then would play the ball back. Rarely took on and beat his full-back.
City needs to cross the ball more in the box in matches like this when team sits back for haland to score.
But he rarely scores headers?

Hard to score when the opposition had 6 back sometimes 8 most of the time playing full defence crowding the box
So whos fault is it if they can't score?
He is misfit, in that City want to walk the ball into the net, They rarely look to drop the ball over the shoulder of the defender and let Haaland run. Take last nights game, Madrid did sit off, but City also pushed them back and thus created no space for Haaland to operate.
Although he scored a lot of goals especially last season, I don't think City's style of play is suited to his game.
"misfit" is a harsh word. Haaland's done ok with City (83 goals in 92 games isn't all that bad...) , but I don't think this team plays to all of his strengths. With Dortmund and Salzburg (and Molde for that matter) he thrived on through balls creating havoc with his speed and clever runs. He had teammates who fully understood him; Reus and Sancho, in particular. Haaland was also much more involved; drifting wide as well as being pivotal in link up play in the midfield. It seems Pep has asked him to stay up front, which makes him much more stationary and hence easier to mark. Haaland is perfect for counterattacking teams like Dortmund. City's obsession with keeping the ball ironically make Haaland look average. He still makes the runs and I don't know how many times I've screamed at the telly when a teammate chooses to make sideway or backward pass instead of taking the chance of a throughball. It is as if the team has decided that he is not allowed to be involved unless the ball is in the box.
Spot on
Well, he doesn't do long shots.
Yet cities other forwards had way more space when haaland were dragging defenders all over the place.
Once haaland came off citys players had zero space in reals defensive 3rd.
He did his job
I was not very supportive of Haaland's initial criticism but it's starting to become very true now

City should've used Liverpool's way of dealing with shameless park-the-bus teams. Put crosses into the box and let the tall players run into the box. De Bruyne kept testing the gk directly yesterday for some reason.
That wasn't a 'shameless park the bus.'đ That was a display of terrible shooting and useless, over complicated football that looks pretty but offers you nothing else. That Madrid team made them look like fools, huffing, puffing and ultimately getting nowhere. Little cyclone versus immovable object.

Zlatan didnât depend on service. Sometimes he played like #10. He was complete player.
Finally hearing astute analysis on the situation from everyone in this video instead of the click-baity headlines we hear everywhere else. This new City love possession in the attacking 3rd, but suffer with chance creation against top teams. Haaland is a player who benefits with space behind the defense to attack at pace, but City largely forego this opportunity in favor of unproductive possession. In the first leg, there were plenty of opportunities for Haaland to make a run in behind the left back, opening space in the middle for Foden and others, but he rarely made the run, and City never took advantage of this opportunity.
When City played 433, they always found a way to attack the half-space and strike on the counter attack. Teams adapted to this, and so did City. Now City have a new style, and teams have adapted to this as well. With Gundo and Mahrez, City were still able to attack this half-space on the underlap, something we still see a bit, but less, with Bernardo and Kevin on the right, now a bit on the left as well, though it usually results in a Bernardo chip to the back post that the defense clears away.
This system can still work in the biggest games, and a player like Paqueta will help immensely with chance creation and finishing, filling that Gundo role that City miss this season. I think the best thing for them is to adopt a style more like Arsenal, who play in a similar formation, but rarely struggle with chance creation like City. This is all up to Pep really, as I know he runs the team autocratically, and players are hesitant to deviate from his demands. Maybe City are eyeing a winger like Raphina, or someone who plays like Demebele, especially if Bernardo leaves, and this could enable them to attack the half-space more often and more effectively, assuming they adopt a style more akin to Arsenal this season. But, it all starts with the manager, and it's up to him to recognize his deficiencies and opportunities. I hope that once Pep leaves, they will look to a manager like Nagelsmann, more inclined to utilize the space and assets available, while recognizing the value of high counter-pressing, as well as solid defensive structure. Cheers.
Medioca at Best but the Media Love him đđ»
Another statuesque performance, if he prowled around the edge and made late runs he would be more effective
If Real Madrid offer crazy money just take it, he's not class at international level and it's what city need
I'm a City fan and I've been saying for months that Haaland has to be doing way better. For a guy of 6ft 5" his hold up play and heading is very poor, particularly given the money he's on. It's no good hiding behind the "his only job is to score goals" at the top level. He needs to seriously work on his all-round game in the summer
Comparing Haaland to Zlatan is blasphemy
City scored 3 goals in the first leg from outside the box, yet in the second leg they tried to walk the ball in.
âDominating the gameâ literally means nothing if you donât win the game.
You can dominate a game of pool but if you donât pot the black youâre allowing your opponent to stay in it. Madridâs mentality won.

Whilst I am not dismayed as a United fan to see City go out, I do think all these pundits now criticising Haaland to be way over the top. City had enough possession and chances to win the game twice over.
