I don't get how fans can boo calls like this. I get supporting your team, but damn, sometimes you just have to set that aside and recognize that it's a bad play, and that the call was right. When a player on any team I support does something stupid and blatant like this, I always just take a step back and say, "yeah, that was deserved."

In our defense they didn't show the replay that's why we were booing. Us in the stadium didn't even get to see it

They're prepping for the PWHL
A little low and with a lot of upward thrust to be trying to get it between his legs!
Yeah, it was more like midrection! 😏
That was 💯 Balls.
That announcer is dilusional to think it wasn't retaliation for the hard check 10 seconds prior.

That was a giblet shot
Ray Ferraro is an annoying mouthpiece of course he speared him in retaliation for the hit behind the net.
the "midsection"
No it was retribution for a hit that happened about 15 seconds prior... This is the first time I've seen it - the headlines are blowing it up like he boarded him, knocked him unconscious 🙄
This is so stupid. If it wasn't Max paciotti there'd be no big deal.
Max is an enforcer, he's no angel.
It is what it is.
Play on boys!
It's crazy seeing a few people defend spearing by saying it was fair because he was hit into the boards. That was in no way boarding. He got shoved along the boards, not into it. There was nothing worth retaliating about, and even if there was, you don't ever spear someone.
its worse than that--Gryz put himself in a vulnerable position knowing the check was coming. This was stupid on top of stupid.
Yeah Hive in Matt grissom going to go in with the intention to spear? No, he was likely trying to knock his stick out of his hands. Messed it up.
Why would he risk spearing? Taking the stick out of his hands would have been nice retribution.
If you got hit in to the boards like that, I guarantee you’d be whining like crazy to the refs for no call
I like you
Just another cry baby player whining about someone hitting them into the boards. These players are such immature idiots too stupid to succeed in the real world so they have to play a child's game to act all tough.

62.2 Double-minor Penalty - A double-minor penalty will be imposed on a player who spears an opponent and does not make contact.
62.3 Major Penalty - A major penalty shall be imposed on a player who spears an opponent (see 62.5).
62.4 Match Penalty - A match penalty shall be imposed on a player who injures an opponent as a result of a spear.

In the 1960s Andy Bathgate of the Rangers penned a newspaper article slamming players who speared and named Gordie Howe as a prime culprit. That's when spearing became a penalty.
Good for Andy. He was absolutely right.
GORDIE HOWE WAS AMAZING!!! U WERE ALLOWED TO DO THIS TYPE OF THINGS BACK THEN
I once had a goalie who was doing this repeatedly from behind when I would screen. I eventually got frustrated and closed my legs on his stick in my groin. I just kept it there. Eventuality the puck left the zone, so I clamped my legs and skated awkwardly out of the zone to get onside... goalie in tow. I got 2 minutes for holding the stick, but got my chance to ask the ref "how tf he thought the stick got there"
So instead of settling it on the ice with good hits of his own, he went to a journo and cried about another player being mean.
Pathetic.

Marchand being a true captain and teaching his teammates well
is wilson working hard to teach his new teammates how to master the charging blindside hit and boarding to end a career ?
Wilson made his Caps debut in 2013. He has a combined 763 games played in the NHL, all with Washington, including a Stanley Cup win in 2018.
So...what exactly is this "new" you speak of, kemosabe?

No intent there.

@@JS-kb4bk It was more on his legs to see his movement. Look I watch every Bruins match and I know Matt is always the calmest of the players. Never seen such a thing from him. And from what I can see he's only trying to jam the stick behind the player's legs to lock him in position and not allow him to pass through the crease (which is a thing you normally see in every game) I think what happened here was that he didn't expect that he woudl turn (his left leg in front) and accidentaly hit him in the groin.

I hated that Grzelcyk did that, but I remember people’s reaction to Ovi spearing Frederic, and nearly everyone said he “deserved it” so 🤷🏻♂️
What is Ray Ferraro talking about at the end 😂
The spear doesn’t really make sense given how tame that hit before was, so he is thinking the Bruin is trying to tie Max up with the stick, but “missed.” Not saying I buy that, but that is what Ferraro is suggesting.
So nice for the announcers to FINALLY notice the player lying on the ice in the middle of the zone, while they rambled on and on about something completely different.
Love the Night Court theme they play during the review. I can do without the mic-but the ref cheated us out of the rare “spearing” signal. The last time I saw a spearing signal in person was Messier’s last game in PGH when he got tossed in the second for spearing Martin Strbak.

Worst part of this play is the announcer justifying it saying it wasnt intentional.
The NHL needs to take action against players who intentionally harm or endanger others on the ice. The NHL should hold such players accountable for their actions. A true player would never intentionally try to hurt or injure another player, whether it be through checking from behind, checking to the head, or punching an unsuspecting player. These actions are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to player safety.
Bruins fan here…no excuse for that retaliation.
It's a lack of respect between players tbh. No one bats an eye when it's a cross check to the lower back area even though Super Mario literally couldn't tie his laces because of how his back ended up.
