Sonic and knuckles is my favorite one. The reason they split Sonic 3 and Sonic and knuckles up, memory limitations. But, putting them together like that, just unlocked the full game.
I'm 45 and I've been playing these games since day one and even yet I still love to play the first Sonic game on both the Mega Drive along with the Master System and Game Gear.
Sonic Origins is fantastic. It has the first 4 Sonic games in one package, with 2 very needed fixes: 1. The option to remove the life limitation. With the ridiculous amount of trial and error with insta-kill moments, especially at the end of Sonic 2, having that limitation of lives with that little play-testing really hurt the experience in multiple old school games, and that unfortunately includes the original Sonic games. 2. You can retry bonus rounds. idk who had the idea of bonus rounds being just one try, but it really corrupted the completion quest. Fixing that in Sonic Origins was crucial for completionists.

I personally can never separate Sonic 3 from Sonic & Knuckles, because playing them as one game always felt like the only way anyone should experience them. to me, those two together were peak Sonic until we got Mania

agreed, origins did have its shortcomings, but the positives far outweighed them, especially being able to play sonic 3 and knuckles in widescreen finally

Kind of sad that Sonic 2 was where the franchise seemed to have peaked in terms of its platform greatness. Sonic 3 and on I didnt care for. Sonic Mania is probably the only on par but thats not quite so original as its a remix of the previous games in my opinion.
i would put Tails Adventure on the list instead of sonic rivals, at least that game can be enjoyed if you have the patience but sonic rivals? that game is boring

Glad that Sonic Rivals made the list, it was definitely one of my favorites, though between it and its sequel, the latter was better.

Sonic 1 was good but if you collected all the chaos emeralds. Nothing happens. No Super Sonic. Hyper Sonic was fun to play as.
