Sonic the Hedgehog has been rather straightforward when it comes to unlockables, most of which are simply friends, costumes, or fun new modes. But these ones? We’re not so sure what was going on here. The Metal skins did at least get the opportunity to evolve into the Metal Virus in the IDW comics.

Some fans have actually referred to the metal skins in Sonic Heroes as the characters being "roboticized", a reference to the Sonic SatAM cartoon to the method used by Robotnik to turn the citizens into robot slaves for his empire.

Heal cannon is not useless by the way. You can increase your dark or hero score by using Heal cannon, it also makes hero mission easier on stage The Doom .

It also pacifies whoever you shoot so they no longer attack. It was particularly useful for score grinding in levels where the enemies are skewed towards one end of the Hero/Dark affiliation.

Also Mojo guy said you have to only complete Hero missions in a playthrough in order to unlock it which is objectively false.
It's really though to get a A rank on missions in stages where the enemies majority is the opposite, so the Heal Cannon is very useful to get hero points on an stage where the majority of enemys are good, like the Gun Base, and Dark points in stages full of evil enemies, like Final Haunt.
Man, I love how you guys showcased the ‘06 purple gem by jumping into a wall over and over again and didn’t even use the dang gem.
They also mixed footage of sonic 06 with the p06 pc fan remake.

Gonna be honest, having Guest characters in the riders games wasnt that strange to me. In fact, I thought it was really cool to see them appear, and as a NiGHTS fan myself, I was fine with it

I wouldn't really say Eggman as a party member in the Sonic rpg was too weird. That was already done as far back as Super Mario RPG with Bowser, who is just as unlikely to team up with Mario as Eggman is with Sonic. And they've also had stories where Eggman worked with Sonic to deal with a more relevant threat at that given time. So pretty par for the course, even beyond these franchises stuff like that has been done countless times with many different RPG'S and genres in general

I was thinking the exact same thing. Hell, he worked together with Sonic and everyone at the very end of Sonic Adventure 2, years prior to the Dark Brotherhood.
Tails Doll has appeared multiple times in the Sonic IDW and Archie comics.
Metal Knuckles has also appeared in Sonic's IDW run as well.
Mecha Knuckles was also a boss in sonic advance

Looking in to it. I don’t think that is accurate. I think you could only use metal characters in 2 player mode. I think using metal characters in single player mode is a mod of some sort. It’s been years since I played the game so I’m not sure (I did get all the emblems in it though).

The Heal Cannon was probably in case you made a mistake, like if you accidentally injured a soldier when you're not suppose to.
More like "The 10 Unlockables I can complain about", like some of these things were really cool to unlock/see when I was a kid. You just can't have nice things anymore I guess.

I have to agree. Most of these were not that weird. Sure maybe the metallic ones were weird and the Sonic R ones were for example, but most of the others were pretty cool and it does sound like he is more complaining about them than explaining why they are weird.
Fun fact: The metal skins from Sonic Heroes were the inspiration for the zombots in the IDW comic's Metal Virus arc.

Yeah that was a weird moment. A Mii wearing a Sonic costume without the head is a little funny-looking, sure, but "creepy"? No idea where they got that notion from. Do they think it looks like a human head stitched onto Sonic's body? But then they only ever described it in terms of a "costume". 🤔 Classic awkward Mojo script lol.
The only level that good for the Heal Cannon is "The Doom." Cause you can use that on the Captured Researchers. Not only that. Using that on the GUN Soliders. They won't attack.
If they didn't attack me at first sight, MAYBE I wouldn't have had to lay the smackdown on them!

12:15 when I was a kid I did a dark mission to skip over lost impact, still did the complete hero ending in that run and still got the heal cannon.
Yeah, you could do like half dark missions and half hero missions and still get it. Honestly, as long as you make it to the corresponding final boss, that's all that matters.
Can’t believe it took me this long to realise that the metallic skins from Heroes were re-contextualised for the Metal Virus/ Zombot arc in IDW Sonic.

About the heel gun, technically speaking you don’t have to do all heroic missions to unlock it, you just need to get the heroic ending. This means you can choose to be neutral or even villainess in certain levels as long as you do enough good deeds to make up for it.
danica patrick is still the weirdest as it honestly felt random(a lot of the other picks were since they kept hatsune miku/bayonetta,older roster picks or other sega character old and new from that game compared to tf2 for some reason.) considering at least with ralph you could say he game hopped or sonic invited him(wish he showed up in that tie in comic instead of danica.).
love metal knuckles and his appearance in the 30th anniversary comic.
would love if the forms were combined in the next game for honey being a ranma 1/2 scenario where she changes from her human to cat look in a comical way.
the sega guest characters were my favorite part of riders(if we see a sequel would love to see joker/the phantom thieves,sakura from sakura wars & especially bayonetta in it's outfits.:3) along with it's charming style.
remember seeing that the zombots in idw were based on this cheat.

in heal cannon's case the fact you wasted time playing shadow the hedgehog is enough(omochao gun was a bit funny though)
and love that the colors multiplayer was how you got chaos emeralds as i'd prefer going through a actual stage to get them.
Danica Patrick definitely was a character I wasn't expecting. Of course, Danica Patrick had been the hype for as long as it lasted. However, she didn't have too many wins on her record in her racing career.
@@leon4000 well from what I can gather from videos related to transformed, it had more to do with her relation with SEGA than her wins in her career. I might be wrong but that’s what I gathered.

The Weirdest Unlockables in the Sonic game franchises are Tails Doll and Mecha Knuckles from Sonic R, Metal Skin characters in Sonic Heroes and Playing as Doctor Eggman for the First Time in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Those are definitely and totally one of THE Weirdest Unlockables I've ever seen in the Sonic gaming Franchises.
eggman was playable a couple times before dark brotherhood, in sa2 he even doesn't use a mech to walk around in the chao garden

I’ve completed Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog a couple of times and I never discovered those unlockables.
Then you've probably unlocked the Heal Cannon without even realizing. It and the other unlockable weapons are unlocked by beating the games various endings
I only ever remember unlocking the vacuum.
Sonic the fighters were based from the comic and Cartoons.
Really struggling to find Sonic related content...
In the Sonic Archie comics Honey the Cat is revealed to be a fashion designer with Amy even owning a couple of her products and she enters into a fighting tournament that Sonic and his friends are in as a way of promoting her brand and she even became good friends with Amy and in the Tournament she fought against Tails and won.
Espio, Bean, Bark and Fang the sniper who’s name is knack the weasel in the comics are also in that tournament. Basically every character in the game is a character from that story arc

Honestly the metal part doesn't bother me much, idk if anyone has read the enerjack story where silvers friends were controlled and used against him, they kind of remind me of that so I just look at it as a cool reference!
The Metal Skins aren't unlockable, the Heal Gun can be gotten without entering Lost Impact as Final Haunt is also reached by the much easier beat Sonic to the Chaos Emerald in Space Gadget. Also the Unlockable Eggman in Chronicles wasn't weird by any means. Fang the Sniper debuted in Sonic Triple Trouble & also was playable in Sonic Drift 2 with a cameo in Tails Adventures before Sonic the Fighters. The characters in Sonic the Fighters aren't unlockables either if I remember correctly.
Surprising that the weird unlocks of Generations weren't mentioned, or Adventure 2's Magic Hands & there were other weird unlocks in that game. Also weird that none of the unlocks in Secret Rings, Black Knight, or the Rivals Games made it into the video.

Technically, you can skip Lost Colony by doing the dark mission in the level just before. From there just speedrun the next stage and as long as it does not take you more than 5 minutes to clear it, you’re good. I mean, if you want to unlock expert mode you will have to eventually go to Lost Colony.

These unlockables are not weird. I love stuff like Sonic 06 and all of its gems, the Tails Doll and Metal Knuckles, etc... Such fond childhood memories.
Metal Knuckles did appear in Sonic Advance as the boss of Angel Island Zone while Tails Doll was reduced to a cameo in Lego Dimensions (which was made by Traveler's Tales, the same company who made Sonic R).
I know, Lego Dimensions is not a Sonic game, but it had a Sonic level.
The heal cannon is actually the most overpowered weapon in Shadow the Hedgehog. No that's not a joke. Every time you hit an NPC, you get hero or dark points depending on who you hit. So it basically can help guarantee an A rank. Just shoot GUN soldiers for hero points and aliens for dark points. It's the easiest way to guarantee an A rank. Shame I didn't notice when I was younger.
I don't find eggman becoming your ally that stange.
Remember, we played him in Sonic Adventure 2 and they all ended up working together at the end of that game.
Sonic Chronicles didn't do anything new with that.

I think the robot versions of the characters in Sonic Heroes look like they got the Metal Virus and they became Zombots.
Knuckles & Knuckles in Mania be like: “This is getting out of hand! Now there are two of them!”
Sonic Adventure 2: allows you to play as Eggman and even has Eggman temporarily team up with the good guys late into the game

CORRECTION: You don't have to do every single hero mission in shadow the hedgehog to unlock the heal cannon. You could unlock this weapon without even having to touch lost colony. You could do the first three normal missions, then the hero missions in sky troops, space gadget and then final haunt, all three of which have fairly simple hero missions.
Obviously these people never read the comics...
When I was younger, I remember a rumor that if you met certain conditions in Sonic Heroes, you could unlock a bonus team comprised of Metal Sonic, Eggman, and Chaos Zero. Never could track that down since then so it might just be the Mandela effect.
Also, iirc, the shiny metal variants of the cast used in Heroes served as the inspiration for the metal virus and the zombots in the IDW comics.

Fang the Snipee appear in various Game Gear games starting with Sonic Triple Trouble, Tails Doll, Metal Knuckles, Bean, Bark, and Honey have appeared in Archie and IDW comics, hell I'd argue their most famously known for their appearances in the comics.

I can't believe this channel would throw shade at Sonic games like this without doing all of the research first. Not saying I knew this stuff, but I feel kind of mislead on some of the topics mentioned in the video as a viewer.

Knuckles does turn mecha in the sonic games. Sonic was turned Mecha by Eggman so in order for it to be a fair fight, Knuckles decided he had to roboticize himself so he could be Sonic and bring him back to reality. Tails doll is also from the Sonic Comics and is also cannon. It's used to spy on the freedom fighters.

I think the metal characters were from the IDW comic dubs about a “metal virus.” Where eggman created a virus that turns innocent mobians into metal zombies or as sonic likes to say zombots. He also lost half his team to the infectious metal, and the only way to cure it was sonic and silver going super. Sadly, in the end sonic died and silver was very injured but he survived. So yea, that’s what I think the metal characters are from.

The shiny versions in Heroes are badass.
The metal characters are very similar to the zombots from IDW. Knowing how the writers from IDW love to make references to odd sonic media [such as vehicles and badnik designs], it wouldn't surprise me if the zombots designs were directly inspired by the metal skins.

To be fair, the heal cannon is good for speed runners because it builds up the hero chaos gauge which allows you to zoom through the level
I think the Shiny/Metal characters from Sonic Heroes are what helped with the concept with the Sonic Metal Virus story I mean that's the first thing I thought of them all being in a shiny metal colour since non of them actually turn into full on robots they just get a metal coat/skin and become essentially zombies

honestly I didn't find it weird that Robotnik was well temporarily playable in Sonic Chronicles the Dark brotherhood. I think the reason why though is because Super Mario RPG came out 12 years before and while I had never played the game at the time until I played it years later via the Wii virtual console, I already knew for a fact that Bowser was a playable Ally in that game so I just didn't think it was too far fetched for Dr Robotnik to be playable in Sonic chronicles. what I think sucks though is that in Sonic Chronicles Dr Robotnik stops being playable later on and is wasting a character slot. it's just a grade version of a space for the rest of the game that's taken up space in the character selection screen and it's just like damn it's just it's kind of an eye sort of look at.
The cool thing about the robot characters in sonic heroes is that they got referenced in the comics semi-recently

Strangest Unlockabe For Me is in Sonic CD (1993). In one of the Unlockable images it shows artwork of Sonic with a Batman costume.

That's not unlockable though, it's just something you can view by playing sounds in a certain order in the sound test.
