- Welcome to the much awaited Sonic Ranking videos. This is the first one of two where I will be ranking all the 2d sonic games from worst to best. Games like Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic Mania and Sonic CD will be included. Sega Genesis
The stage was set for Sonic Origins to house the definitive versions of Sonic's classic endeavors. And while the core of each game remains intact, not all is as it seems. Oh, and you can skip cutscenes with B, my bad.

Explanation:
Bad/not that good
Sonic 4 gives me a headache in all 3 senses, visuals, music, and gameplay.
Sonic 1 to me only has 2 good stages in my opinion.
Sonic 2 is in the not that good (in my opinion) due to 2 bad stages and 1 that gives me a headache in visuals. I also hate the special stages.
Meh/not the best:
Sonic 4 episode II: it’s actually a MASSIVE upgrade. Visuals are finally better, gameplay is not as atrocious, and the mechanics are genuinely good. Also good bosses,
Sonic CD: it’s a good game, but honestly time travel can get annoying and bosses are creative but really don’t feel like BOSSES. Final boss was also uncreative. At least sonic 1 makes more sense.
Good/the best:
Sonic 3: really fun gameplay, only 1 bad stage which is also good, and the bosses actually feel like a mix of creative and genuinely challenging and feel like bosses. Mini bosses were also a creative decision.
Sonic & knuckles: practically sonic 3 but better. Also basically more of a sequel than a dlc and more it’s own game evolving sonic 3.
Sonic mania: basically ALL the good stuff of the classic games but manages to evolve it. New stages are also really good and bosses genuinely are fun or menacing. Deserves its title easily.
Glad to see another sonic cd enjoyer! Idk, sonic 2 type levels just aren't as fun for me, I like the big exploration based levels of sonic cd

I recently replayed sonic 1 as part of sonic origins and I enjoyed t more than I remember. I totally see where you’re coming from though. Awesome list!

You forgot that sonic 2 was first to make the chaos emeralds actually useful and turn into super sonic
That and Sonic 2 also introduced the ever useful spindash and two player mode

Great review! My favourite Sonic game is Sonic CD, 2nd is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, 3rd is Sonic The Hedgehog 2, 4th is Sonic The Hedgehog, (Im not adding Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 or 2 because I haven't played them.

I remember playing sonic mania on my laptop, and it was super amazing! 10/10
Sonic 4 Episode I was originally going to be a mobile exclusive called Sonic the Portable before Sega forced Dimps to make it a console game and slapped Sonic 4 on it as a desperate way to guarantee good sales. While Episode I did sell well the mixed reception (mostly negative) from the fanbase doomed Episode II which sold far worse. A shame because there is night and day difference between the quality of both Sonic 4 episodes.
Sonic & Knuckles is not Sonic 3 DLC. Both games were meant to be one before time constraints and the high cost of a 34 megabite cart forced the game to be split in two. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the way the game was meant to be played.
Sonic and knuckles were suppose to be one game, but the developers were time limited because sega wanted sonic 3 out by early 93. So the developers had to split sonic 3 into 2 parts. It was strange, but at the same time, brought a really cool technology from it. Sonic and knuckles brought the lockon technology, where you can connect not only the first part of sonic 3, but sonic 2 to sonic and knuckles. I remember thinking how cool that was as a kid. So, maybe if sonic 3 wasn't time limited, that lockon technology from sonic and knuckles may have never been a thing, because sonic 3 would have ended up being one game, instead of two.

Hmm, I disagree with Sonic Mania's position. I do think it's good, but since it's mostly just a rethread of older existing levels with very little actual original content, I think Sonic 3 & Knuckles deserves number 1.

the actual debut of tails is in sonic 2 8-bit because it came out before the 16-bit one
You seem to not have known much about Sonic 3 and Knuckles. The game Sonic & Knuckles was not like DLC for Sonic 3. It was a whole significant part of the overall story. I loved Sonic Mania, but Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best 2D Sonic game for me because of a few things:
Debug mode and the ability to mess around with it
Hidden Palace, Super Emeralds, and Hyper Sonic/Super Tails/Hyper Knuckles
(I do not count Mania's version of "super forms" for Tails, Knuckles, Mighty, and Ray as really being super forms)
I played Sonic 3 for the first time after playing mania, and before that i didn't understand why people still said that Sonic 3 was the best, now i completely get it.
Sonic Mania feels like a huge apology for the Sonic 4 Sega gave us
Sonic 3& Knuckles, were meant to be one whole game. System limitations, made them split it into two games. That's why, you can connect 3, with sonic and knuckles. For the whole experience.
In hill top zone when you find the seesaw before the orb launches you spin dash then when you launch from the orb move off and you get a drop dash

FUN FACT! Apparently the reason sonic 1 doesn't have save data is because the developers want to make sonic fast and they did that by having no way to save witch means u have to play the game fast and that's why they did that

Sonic 3 and Knuckles wasn't exactly "super-polished" because there are a lot of bugs and glitches like out of bound glitch, but yeah, i love that games, very awesome and classic, although i really hate the cursed barrel at the carnival zone act 2. S3nK also the only game that Hyper Sonic existed, absolutely awesome right? too bad that mode never appeared at the other Sonic games......

If you didn't include Sonic 3D Blast on the 3D game rankings, shouldn't you have included it on this video? That doesn' make any sense, you have to decide yourself. It's either 2D or 3D, there is no 2,5D except when referring to games like Sonic the Hedgehog 4, although that one is actually 3D according to your rules but you didn't mind including here...
