Awesome choice Tom!

# 2 Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz (1980)
At the same time Black Sabbath mounted their comeback, Ozzy had his. A lot to come back from, between all the personal issues and fallout from exiting Sabbath . Ozzy put together a sensational band with an up and coming virtuoso guitarist. This legendary well crafted album still resonates in pop culture today. Ozzy was one of the first to put fun in metal that caught on with the masses over time. My favorites were the hits: I Don't Know, Crazy Train, and Mr. Crowley.

@@ziggyzagzi8017 That's what I thought Ziggy!
Hi Steve. Fantastic pick is your choice for Celebration Day. That album is just marvelous.
Heart to Heart is fantastic too.
Today's pick is Johnny Winter-Guitar Slinger. Winter's first LP for the Alligator label was truly a nice comeback album showing a revitalized Johnny Winter and he would go on to make a few really cool albums on Alligator. At the time in 1984, Johnny Winter was back with a vengeance.
Nice pick.
@@tomp4053 Thanks Tom
Hi Yoke. Awesome pick and article
@@melaniethurber5117 Thanks Mel
Good choice yoke once he got on alligator records it was like the second coming.
Great call Pete.
Probably the most significant comeback album EVER.
It's a famous comeback that also made it possible to unleash more great purple albums. Seriously, Purpendicular or Now What?! could qualify here. In the 70's, Burn or even IN ROCK qualify.
#2: AC/DC Back in Black. Impossible to replace Bon, but Brian brung it, Angus and Malcolm became composers with Mutt's mastering on Highway and BinB
Cool pick Ziggy!
@@steverogers2635 this album blew my mind the first time I heard it
Lastly- the mighty Heaven And Hell.
Although I thankfully found a lot of new Deep Purple with Pete's help, I have not heard Perfect Strangers to be corrected today!
Surrealistic Pillow - Jefferson Airplane (1967)
ChromeDestiny selected this one yesterday and I have to agree, thank you for pointing this out! This one may be more of a fantastic launch than a comeback though this was their second studio record and it did rebound in sales. A comment from Jerry Garcia inadvertently created the album title when he described its music 'as surrealistic as a pillow is soft'; the album had 'Jerry Garcia - musical and spiritual advisor' proudly displayed on the back of the record lol! Jerry played on a few tracks and was helpful with arrangement on a few as well. It is in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress and deemed 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant'. Released in Feb of 1967 this was their first album to have the talented Grace Slick on vocals from another SF rock band the Great Society and first one with the already famous LA jazz drummer Spencer Dryden; it reached #3 in the Billboard 200 that year. In 2003 Rolling Stone named it #146 of the 500 greatest albums. The band also boasted guitarist-songwriter and vocalist Marty Balin, guitarist vocalist songwriter counter-culture revolutionary and leader Paul Kantner, lead guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, and bassist Jack Casady which remained their lineup until 1970. This album DOES give me the warm fuzzies and was a clear passageway back to a simpler and more fun time. It is ironic to me that my fandom is closely entwined with counter-culture late 60's bands like the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane (and Starship just thereafter) although I was only 2 years old when this one arrived!
These songs are oh so pleasant and I didn't hear all of them until 1978 but what a treat from only 10 years before I had found. First track She Has Funny Cars wonderfully upbeat and sonically so of the time (1967) with a nice smart arrangement and is wonderfully innocent with the fingerpicked electric guitar. Next track Somebody to Love was a huge hit and it was clear the switch to Grace for vocals was a good one! My Best Friend a happy hippy pop song with lovely lilting vocal melody and strong writing quite reminiscent of Mama's and Papa's of the day. Today featured the lovely high memorable guitar lick ala Dark Star from Garcia and was a monumental emotional piece of music of the day and a beautiful love song. Today was THE wedding song at my older hippie good friends wedding in 1974 - a great pick! Comin' Back to Me is another track that is like an old friend with wonderful stream of consciousness lyrics from Marty Balin. 3/5 of a mile in 10 seconds is the hopping blues classic ala Bob Dylan music of the day with chorus 'Though I Love You Baby Yes I Do' and has great Jorma lead guitar that is so late 60's lol! D.C.B.A.-25 another wonderful hippie rock/pop gem with strong Beatles influence which is also similar to White Bird from It's a Beautiful Day! 25 is of course a reference to an important isotope of the day lol! How Do You Feel has the marvelous flute and acoustic guitar intro with wonderful lyrics 'Look into her eyes' so pretty and 'When you meet a girl like that I don't know what to say' with a fantastic old school electric guitar solo from Jorma and perfect acoustic guitar accompaniment from Marty and Paul, and has outstanding vocals as good as Beach Boys of the day to my mind. Next we have the mind blowing Jorma solo fingerpicked and hand slammed acoustic steel guitar marvel called Embryonic Journey; ever since I first heard this track it has a special place for me. Next we have the iconic White Rabbit, maybe you have heard of it? Final track Plastic Fantastic Lover great hippie anthem of 1967 with strong blues lead guitar from Jorma and smart rhyming lyrics delivered by Marty.
Cheers!

Duke - After the departure of 2 key members: Gabriel and Hacket sales were better but not much more as The album followed a period of inactivity for the band in early 1979. Phil Collins moved to Vancouver, Canada, in an effort to salvage his failing first marriage, while Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford recorded solo albums. Collins returned to the UK after his marriage ended and wrote a significant amount of material, some of which was used for Duke and some was later reworked for his first solo album, Face Value. Duke contained a mix of individually written songs and tracks that evolved from jam sessions in mid-1979, while recording took place at the end of the year. The break in activity rejuvenated the band, and they found the album an easy one to work on.
Duke was positively received by music critics, who praised the album for bridging the band's progressive rock-oriented past, such as the closing ten-minute "Duke's Travels"/"Duke's End" suite, with their more pop rock-oriented, commercially accessible direction, as displayed on the hit singles "Turn It On Again", "Duchess", and "Misunderstanding". It reached No. 11 in the US, and became their first album to reach No. 1 in the UK. It has since been certified Platinum in both countries.
Great choice! I've never been too crazy about Then There Were Three! Duke is a step up for me
Day #29, my second greatest comeback album ever - The one and only Moody Blues' OCTAVE. I could have gone with Patrick Moraz's initial work after Pinder's departure - LONG DISTANCE VOYAGER, or the last studio release in 1999 - STRANGE TIMES, eight years after KEYS TO THE KINGDOM. But after the classic period, the boys took a hiatus and released some solo records; a total of six years from one of the rock's greatest run of classics to OCTAVE in 78; Pinder's last run with the Moodies.
It was a break too, with the typical album art of Phil Travers.
It was a slight drop off from what preceded it but a fine comeback. Side one is sensational. Nearly flawless. Side two - not too shabby, either.
Comparing this to the classic period is like one going back for gold and finding silver. It will still make you happy.
#3 Gordon Lightfoot - Waiting for You
#4 Bryan Ferry - Boys and Girls
#5Charlatans UK -Modern Nature
#6 Tears for Fears - The Tipping Point
#7 Morrissey - I Am the Quarry
#8 Furs - Made of Rain

#10 Yes - 90215
#11 Underworld - BARBARA BARBARA, WE FACE A SHINING FUTURE
#12 Jeff Beck - GUITAR SHOP
#13 The Pretenders - LAST OF THE INDEPENDENTS
#14 Kraftwerk - TOUR DE FORCE SOUNDTRACKS
#15 B-52s - COSMIC THING
#16 U2 ACHTUNG BABY
#17Alison Goldfrapp- THE LOVE INVENTION
#18 The Ocean Blue - ULTRAMARINE
#19 Bowie - BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE
#20 Jethro Tull - THE ZEALOT GENE
#21 Fleetwood Mac - TANDO IN THE NIGHT
#22 Dire Straits - ON EVERY STREET
#23 Focus - FOCUS (WITH THIJS VAN LEER AND JAN AKKERMAN)
#24 Kansas - VINYL CONFESSIONS
#25 The Allman Brothers - EAT A PEACH

@@steverogers2635 Thanks Steve!
Nearly at the end of the month and the alphabet. Today I'm going with Yes and 'Fly from Here'
The definition of a comeback album. Firing on all cylinders! I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned sooner.
Vapor Trails -Rush. Plus, there's a remixed version 11 years after the 2002 release that gets rid of some if not most of the clipping / loudness that plagued original -but also eliminated some of the vigor and emotion of a band and especially drummer who'd been through a lot recently. Most have this album towards bottom of discography but I think there's 7 that are worse. I dig it!
EXCELLENT PICK PETE AGREED !!!
Such a great album!! Great musicians!! My #29: Going with an album that features 2 artists together. One of the artists is a music legend who hasn't gone away, but this is his first album in 4 years at this time. The other guy, another legend, had released music in the previous years, but they went largely unnoticed by the masses. With this album, his name was out front again and more people became aware of who this guy was and the music that he'd made over the years. Talking about Elton John & Leon Russell - The Union
Hi Pete. Dave from London here. Excellent pick of yours - Purple are also on my list, but I went with Burn. My pick today is SIX by EXTREME (2023). Their first album for 15 years, and it's a familiar blend of hard rock, pop, electro and acoustic. The opener Rise is a barnstorming classic and Nuno Bettencourt's blistering, technically brilliant guitar solo has received praise of the likes of Rick Beato. Elsewhere, the melodic pop of Other Side Of The Rainbow is infectious, and there seems to be a definite Muse influence in later tracks such X Out. Saw yours and Steven Reid's reviews saying the album fell off a cliff half way through. Don't really get that.
Hi Dave. I do know your pick and their music. Awesome pick and article

My Pick for Day #29 and MY #2 is KISS - Creatures Of The Night
You can pick a few comebacks for KISS, but Creatures Of The Night is significant for me after the confusion of the Solo albums,
the Disco single I Was Made For Loving You, the power pop of Unmasked, the firing of Peter Criss and hiring Eric Carr and the
misstep concept album Music From The Elder, KISS needed to get back to basics and that is just what they did on Creatures!
Crunchy Guitars, Booming Bass and Thunderous Drums! Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are singing fantastic and with conviction!
Although Ace Frehley is on the album cover he didn't play on it, Gene and Paul quietly had guitarists Robben Ford, Steve Farris and
future KISS guitarist Vincent Cusano (soon to be known as Vinnie Vincent) handle Lead Guitar duties. Sadly the album did not have
the commercial explosion the band hoped and their next move would prove to put them back in the limelight. But Creatures was the
step they needed to make for the future success in the 80's to come. Four songs from this album have been staples in the band's
set list til their End Of The Road the two-fisted pumping single I Love It Loud, the blues-y ballad I Still Love You (Paul's best vocal!),
the stomping Title Track and the growling War Machine! My personal favorites are Saint And Sinner, Keep Me Comin' and Eric's
double bass shuffle on Danger is worth the price of admission! A Monster!! I absolutely love this album despite Ace not being on it.
Great pick, another overlooked one for me and others.

It is a classic return for sure and hat opening of Perfect Strangers is a perfect example of the Purple sound. Colleges AND Universities exist in the UK too, much the same as in the states.

Yeah, it’s polished, it’s slick, and has several hits, but it’s still a monster album after several years of subpar albums and drug abuse.
Great pick with that one.
One definitely cannot omit
Knocking at Your Back door the hidden sexual innuendo
Forgotten favorites that could be interesting?
I'm not too sure about the 20yr and the 10yr fav albums for June but we'll see what happens. I really wasn't buying that much especially 2014 only a smattering of CDs
29. Iggy Pop - Post Pop Depression (2016)
Back when David Bowie was scraping Iggy off of the sidewalks of L.A., no one would have guessed Bowie would be the first to go, and Iggy would still be bouncing around stages like a young man. Was it down to Iggy kicking drugs and even smoking in the 80s, and keeping physically fit his whole life? Maybe, but it's also a lot of luck and genetics. Either way, we're lucky to still have Iggy baring his sweaty, leathery torso for us still, no matter how spotty his solo albums became after New Values (1979). I've got a mix with at least one good song from each album through the years, and I grew to quite like Blah-Blah-Blah (1986), which coincidentally had hid old pal Bowie as co-producer. Two Stooges reunions came and went with brilliant tours but not great albums. It took a collaboration with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, who's starting to make a habit of swanning with rock gods (Them Crooked Vultures with John Paul Jones) to come up with his best album since New Values. The focus on this album is also reflected in the comments of, funny enough, Geddy Lee's memoir, where he said, "The only other exception I can think of was when my pal Josh Homme told me that the band he put together in 2016 for the Post-Pop Depression tour with Iggy Pop rehearsed for well over a month. (It showed. That band was note-perfect and incredibly tight.)" At the time it felt like Iggy was working with the same fervor as Bowie as death approached, and I started to get worry that Iggy's time was up too. Perhaps he was spooked by his friend's passing, and wanted to make a lasting statement. Either way, I'm grateful that not only this exists, but even his indulgently arty Free (2019) and his rudimentary garage punk banker Every Loser (2023).

Great album Mel. One of my favorites.
Great pick, Melanie.
Great choice Melanie.
Doggone right!
@@yokerecords803 thanks Yoke
As a teenager I got into classic rock in the 80's, so most bands were finished by then. I remember listening to the Friday Rock Show with Tommy Vance and him announcing the reformation of Deep Purple, I was so excited to hear that news and the album was great. Listening to the title track it gave me goosebumps..
It’s gotta be the number come back album of all time !

great pick a match📌💜💜
@@bengalgangster Thank you, bengal. Yay! A match. 📌🎶💜💜
Hi Debbie, Fantastic Choice. Allman Brothers are great and were on my list. Hope All is well. Have a great day and week ahead, our friend.
Great pick, Debbie.
IMO best comeback of all time killer record that is my pick as well well
In case it's not mentioned in here somewhere, Son of Alerik on the CD re-release from 1999 is amazing!
Dehumanizer - Black Sabbath
The Who - Who Are You
Hi powrnap. Awesome pick
I have been waiting for this pick Pete it is a classic but what about the great Steely Dan?
This was my entry into Deep Purple. A tremendous album start to finish.
great comeback from this huge band. Unfortunately the egos of Gillan and Blackmore did not allow us more years of the Mark II
Pick #2 - Carcass - Surgical Steel - What a story. 20 years after crafting the melodic death metal masterpiece Heartwork, they come back and release it's proper successor in Surgical Steel (I liked 1996's Swansong for what it was, but it was a hard rock fusion version of their style). Everything is on point, and the track Dark Granulating Satanic Mills is catchy fun but uncompromising in it's heaviness.
Day 29. Dick Dale - Tribal Thunder The king of the surf guitar goes over 30 years between records and the wait is worth it. Dale has not lost one thing off his Middles Eastern staccato approach to his playing. All that is mildly different is the production values are far better than in the early 60's. This record carries a mix of classic surf covers and new originals. His acoustic remake of Miserlou is just beautiful. On a side note, ale's surf music was the basis for psychedelic music that came in the late 60's.

CLASSIC!!!!
Steve Winwood - Back in the High Life - Yes, ‘Arc of Diver’ preceded this with its outstanding track, “When you see a Chance”, but this album was huge, bringing this star of the 60s and 70s a whole new audience for these high-energy, well written 80s songs.

Hi Alexander. Awesome pick and article
@@melaniethurber5117 It seems like someone covered 'Higher Love' recently because I have heard it a lot (both original and by a woman singer).
Can't wait for their new album '=1' and see them in concert with Yes in September🔥
For some strange reason, I acquired the inferior - but still enjoyable - "The House Of Blue Light" years before "Perfect Strangers". My copy of the latter includes TWO bonus tracks - "Not Responsible" and the cool extended instrumental "Son Of Alerik". I once read that Ritchie said that "Perfect Strangers" was his favourite Deep Purple song. I think it is a very legitimate candidate for any such discussion. I do love me some rock music with Eastern sounding - Arabic? Indian sub-continent? - chords.
Spock's Beard-Brief Nocturnes And Dreamless sleep. Npt a comeback in the strictest sense, but this does fall under one of Pete's definitions. After Spock's Beard's X album, Nick D'Virgilio decided to leave. The band had already done shows like High Voltage while Nick was busy with other stuff. To help out on that show, the band tapped Enchant singer Ted Leonard. The match was so good, they decided to make Ted the official singer. Touring drummer Jimmy Keagan(yes, the same Jimmy Keagan that played on Santana's Supernatural) was also made an official member. Hiding Out, which is the opening track, has a killer organ solo. A Treasure Abandoned is more mood, with guitarist Al Morse playing pedal steel guitar. Something Very Strange has a vocoder/organ intro. Waiting For Me starts slow, but picks up speed. It also has a moody midsection, then kicks back in with a synth solo. Submerged is also moody. That's highlights from the main disc. Then, there's a bonus cd. The Man You're Afraid You Are sounds like stadium rock, similar to Squonk by Genesis. Down A Burning Rope sounds kind of like Country. Forgot to mention Afterthoughts on the main disc. That's a sequel to two other songs called Thoughts, which sound like Gentle Giant. Afterthoughts and Waiting For Me has writing contributions from original Beard singer Neal Morse. Neal plays guitar on the latter song. I'm pulling a Pardo/Catino. Since I picked Spock's Beard, I'm also picking The Great Divide by Enchant from 2014. After their 2003 album Tug Of War and its tour, Enchant took a break. Singer Ted Leonard eventually joined Spock's Beard. Then they returned in 2014. The opening track Circles has a Fusion jam in the middle, followed by a melodic section, then ends with a Moog solo. Within A Inch ends with a synth solo, followed by a piano solo, and then a guitar solo. Title track begins with funky bass. The song goes from heavy to light. All Mixed Up sounds like Nu-Metal, but funky. Life In A Shadow is also more melodic. Deserve To Feel has a guitar/keyboard duel at the end. Here And Now starts with funky bass. It closes with an instrumental called Prognosticator, which is a sequel to Progtology and Prognosis, which are also instrumentals. Enchant was supposed to be working on a follow-up, but it hasn't come.

Wheeler Walker, Jr.-Sex, Drugs and Country Music (2022)
Fourth studio album from the comedy/country artist who is the alter ego of Ben Hoffman. After touring for his third album, WW III (named after his son), Wheeler took a hiatus to spend time with his family. In the fall of 2021, Wheeler decided to return to the studio after having to wait an entire year because of the COVID pandemic and this album was released in April of 2022, spawning the hits "F**ked by a Country Boy", "She's a Country Music Fan" and "God Told Me to F**k You".
I saw him recently in my home town's casino showroom with opening "surprise guest"😉 Hank Jizzy and the cum blankets!!😂🤣🤣 Hilarious and great show!!!🤑
Great pick.
Go Away White by Bauhaus (2008)
Gothic rock. One could cite any number of influences, from Alice Cooper to David Bowie to the Doors to the Velvet Underground and Nico. The Cure are inarguably the form's most popular band, from album sales to concert-tour grosses. But I am not sure any single group is a more crisp and perfect distillation of goth's aesthetic and ethos than Bauhaus. Formed in Northampton, England, in 1978, Bauhaus are guitarist Daniel Ash, drummer Kevin Haskins, bassist David J, and imperious baritone vocalist Peter Murphy, and music does not come more sexily gothic than their most famous songs, i.e. “Dark Entries,” “The Passion of Lovers,” “The Sanity Assassin,” and, of course, “Bela Lugosi’s Dead,” the skeletal, nine-minute, dub-influenced, horror-history-evoking single which put them on the map.
But their initial run as a band, while productive and brilliant, lasted only half a decade as the relationship between Murphy and his bandmates eroded; Ash, Haskins, and J would move on to a pair of new groups, Tones on Tail first and then, more popularly, Love and Rockets, while Murphy became a consistently active, largely successful solo artist with hits such as “Cuts You Up” and “The Sweetest Drop.” But a 2005 reunion proved fruitful enough to last three years and saw the release of a belated fifth album, Go Away White; it finds the band sounding more mature and restrained, but still entirely capable of conjuring the decadently foreboding, sensuality- and menace-laced atmosphere which defines the Bauhaus legacy. Subsequent years have seen fitful activity from the group, but Murphy's volatility and health issues have largely stymied any momentum; a few years ago, for instance, a stay in rehab precipitated the cancelation of a U.S. tour.
Choice cuts: “Too Much 21st Century,” “Adrenalin”

My pick today would be riot thunder steel. That's a great album considering after many years away after the Forester lineup cease to exist, Tony Moore comes in and it just hits it out of the park. I mean it's great power metal. They updated their sound, changed their genre a little bit from hard rock to power metal but a great great band that doesn't get enough recognition. And Pete, I know you said you hadn't listened to anything past thundersteel, but I really think you need to reconsider and look at all the the power metal catalog of riot It is just amazing. Amazing material and underrated nonetheless
Great Pick! I'm a big RIOT fan! Great album!
@@drewrose374 I mean not all. Their albums are great but can we be? Can we really say they've made a s***** album in their whole career that they've had
@@guylanglois1802 I love all their albums! been a fan since Narita!
Agree! Brethren of the Long House and Inishmore are both really underrated imho, also Army Of One... not sure about how I feel with the band now, I don't really feel it's RIOT without Mark, but hey, look at Molly Hatchet...
great choice
Cloud 9 - George Harrison
Perfect Strangers, 40 years ago so (almost) perfect timing.
Funny thing with Deep Purple is that for them "Comeback' albums are almost routine.
You could even argue that their upcoming album with Simon McBride again is a Comeback album after sp many years and albums with Steve Morse and each guitar member very important for their sound.
I won't list them all, but want to propose that really perfect timing is a Comeback album 50 years ago....
And boy, that one was great with MkIII: Burn.
It's not my no1 album (that's arguably also a Comeback album from then: In Rock), but Burn for me is a good second.
Pick #29: The Mars Volta's The Mars Volta. Much like the newest album by Porcupine Tree I really wasn't expecting a new album by The Mars Volta in 2022, 10 years after Noctourniquet, but was very pleasantly surprised. Granted, I kind of knew not to expect another Deloused in the Comatorium or Frances the Mute but still very enjoyable album. Might not have enough time to list my final pick by 9AM tomorrow, but expect a few honorable mentions as well.

#29: The Mars Volta's The Mars Volta
It's funny because Pete and I have the same pick. Perfect Strangers by Deep Purple
Coverdale-Page .... Self-Titled
Huge creative comeback for Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Whitesnake's David Coverdale.
Selling over a million copies in America wasn't enough for Page to continue this collaboration. Ir must be nice when a platinum seller isn't good enough.
But the album is fire.
Wonderful expected pick with Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers, Pete.
Superb album! Should be a total classic, and I'm sure it would be if the singer was Robert Plant. But Coverdale's vocals are just incredible, I doubt Plant could've been on the same level. One of my favourite albums ever.
