Just got it in the mail today, and literally everything you said in your review was spot on. Additionally, It made me experience BAD VR sickness for the first time in my life. I felt sick after 5 minutes of use, I had to rip the headset off.
Oh and that recording of the fan? It's akin to a hairdryer behind your head at 10% volume. It's awful. I'm so bummed. It feels and looks like a solid product, but literally everywhere you look its "Report back to us here for support" and after years of waiting on a pipe dream, this thing sure did wake me up to reality.
I'm so bummed, I may give it a proper few tries, tweak my room, play with my routers and mirrors etc. and see if I can salvage this thing.. maybe even just for certain games? Who knows.. very disappointing.

Having tried the Quest 3, I don't really think people are right in acting like the Q3 makes the Valve Index so outdated or whatever. Sure the resolution with Q3 is better but the FOV, audio, and mic are still noticeably worse, there's no finger-tracking, the 3D effect is less pronounced with the Q3 than the Index, the Q3 colors all look washed out and gray, and the headset is very dim. I haven't tried them both side-by-side to confirm but I think the Index is better on all of those things.
Oh, not to mention the light leakage under the bottom of the Q3. Not a huge issue but I can see it being an immersion problem for some people considering Q3 needs lights on to work and Index tracking works fine in a pretty dark room.
I think people put too much value on resolution. When I'm in the Valve Index in a fast-paced game I don't really notice the fact the resolution is lower unless I stop playing for a second and just stare at things, which I don't do in the course of normal gameplay.
The Q3 FOV is such a noticeable problem though. When I'm in the Valve Index I feel like I'm in a different world, but when I'm in the Q3 I feel like I'm just wearing a sophisticated pair of 3D goggles or something. The small Q3 FOV makes it feel like I'm looking at the virtual world through a pair of binoculars or something... it's bad.
The main advantage the Q3 has over other headsets is the fairly extensive library of Meta exclusive games, not the quality of the headset itself (which honestly isn't that great).

Ah man that's unfortunate, but very reasonable. In this day and age, we just want products that are basically plug and play. This is why I haven't been in VR in so long, because the setup in the past was just too much for me. This is why the Quest products seems perfect for any normal Joe Blow. I've always been a console gamer because of that.

I 100% agree with you. I know they haven't confirmed if this can be used the the Bigscreen Beyond but they have entertained the idea. Hopefully they get the firmware/software fixed and then see if they can get it working with the Beyond. This made me hopeful for the beyond, I have an Index and a quest 2 and I still use my Index more. I'm weary upgrading to a Beyond if it isn't wireless. @LARVideos Před 7 měsíci +2

I went from outside in tracking to inside out, and I feel it's an upgrade overall. Outside in also has blind spots, but they're specific to the room. Inside out has blind spots, but they're consistent relative to you. I feel that's an improvement. And that's just with the controller. The headset itself no blind spot. Since it's tracking itself.
I used to be annoyed when the trackers would lose my controllers when I put them just out of their view like under a desk or crouching just below their field of view.
Though I do really miss being able to use bows in VR. Well, I still can, but I can't draw the string too far behind me anymore. I do hope to be able to get either the Quest Pro controllers or a revision of them later on that fixes this problem. Those controllers are basically perfect.

The way I always saw the Valve Index was: if it just had eye tracking it would be the ultimate streamer headset. Higher image quality and refresh rate? not great if you're trying to stream (especially as a vtuber as it'll eat into any sort of tracked avatar's rendering)
It's speaker and sound quality make it perfect for that. It's wider than average FOV (that isn't a pimax) perfect for racing sims. I wouldn't say it's "outdated" outside of it's use of LCD, it's otherwise a very good niche product. It'd be like saying 1080p is outdated when you're trying to target a 2060.
VR already hits a lot of GPU and CPU limits in semi-VR games (games built for desktop but have VR modes), so personally, for me, the index is still that perfect sweet spot in that area. Heck, If I could turn my Vive Pro Eye down to 80hz, I would, because then I'd get perfect frame rate timings.

If I gave up on a VR device after it not working correctly on delivery, I probably wouldn't love VR. I remember having issues with the prototype rift and even the HTC Vive. This is a new area of tech that is still in its infancy. There are going to be hiccups, especially with super low latency high def video. If we all waited for tech to mature, we all would be waiting indefinitely. I think in this case, there are pros and cons. If you can deal with the issues to get a satisfactory experience, I would say go for it. It's kind of like playing a modded game. You know things are going to break eventually, espeacially if it's a new mod. But the overall experience might be worth a few hiccups. For me, it's worth it.

I’d personally like to see a wider fov like the pimax is offering as well as having the features of the quest3 such as wireless and augmented reality experiences and psvr 2 foveated rendering - they will need to pull something big out of the bag above and beyond the current headsets if they are going to charge this much - maybe more games on the level of half life akyx or even better and maybe mobile gaming in the headset which is on a higher graphical fidelity that what the quest can currently offer - if they could do all that then they will be onto a winner .

You have literally uploaded the first Nofio wireless VR review to CZcams. Congratulations. You are also a backer on kickstarter, so you are technically beta testing the product prior to full release. This is not a 100% finished product yet. The software needs updating which was LITERALLY released today. You're reviewing something too early, just for views. You're not giving it the respectable time to be the product it can be. The United States DOES have wireless bandwidth interference that was literally fixed in TODAY's (1/18/24) software patch to auto select the best channel for nofio.
This is Linus Tech Tips fiasco all over again. You rush out a bad review and don't give the product the time it deserves. It's still not even sent out to all the backers on kickstarter yet, and you review it like it's a mass produced product. You literally mention they are working on the software yourself.
Releasing a video like this can be detrimental to the future of a groundbreaking tech company like this. This could impact whether or not they decide to support the product down the road even at all, because your negative review casts shade on something they have been forthright in communicating to all backers on discord. In turn, you are potentially costing them sales and future-proofing them as a company to continue supporting the product or even making one for BSB as you so sorely desire them to. I hope you consider the ramifications of a video released so soon. They should have NDA'd it until they knew it was ready. Maybe that's bad planning on their part.

it's not premature because I discuss that even if it was perfect which it will never be no matter what software upgrades they add, it's way too expensive. Pico not being stable means nothing because indexes are already out of warranty. HTC losing you as a customer is a you only thing. Pimax is indeed expensive but you get upgraded tech instead of paying an arm and a leg to semi update old tech. Finally when it comes to the battery, sure you CAN clip it to your waist but they don't provide a cable or mount for that and that comment was specific to the big screen beyond. @@Abestar909

Pico going out of business would have the same effect but worse than an Index being out of warranty considering Valve has repeatedly shown themselves willing to replace parts out of warranty and replacement parts are far more common for Indexes vs the far, far more rare Picos.
Considering HTC losing me was based on their business practices and not something entirely specific to me, it's not a "me only" thing.
Pimax - it's okay with you to spend around $1,500 for a better resolution headset but it's an "arm and a leg" to spend $400 on a *dedicated* wifi 6 connection for a tried and true headset from a company people actually trust? Please guy.

why should I buy a new headset, when my index is still doing fine?
as I said, the money is already gone. if it (the nofio) works it works, if it doesnt it doesnt.
I'm perfectly happy to continue to use my index - even wired - until valve does something, IF they do something.

Matteo, I'd like to publicly apologize for all negative comments that I have posted here towards you, your video, and otherwise. I, and many others, have blindly white-knighted for Nofio, defending them needlessly. I won't justify our actions, but I believe we all were simply keeping our hopes high. We shouldn't have lambasted you for your opinion, to which we know to be correct now after many more have received there device. I am by no means a mascot for the Nofio backer community but I hope you take my apology as the apology for everyone else here that did the same, if they don't retract their statements as well. I will leave my comments as-is, only to further show my assinine behavior and not censor it to the public. Please accept my apology. Thank you for providing fair and honest feedback that we should have listened to in the beginning. You have me as a subscriber once again.

Real bummer, too late in the game regardless. Deckard will likely be this year so the market for this product and lifespan is basically nothing.
