I think everybody just wants to see him and see him win a round or two, or maybe three, thats already a win. Nobody expects the old Nadal suddenly. Rafa's situation here is not a surprise in some ways. Here, he used the basic template which has given him great success, but today, the one weakness in it was exposed again. It is remarkably simple: against big hitters, if he loses the initiative, his spinny groundies sit up for the opponent to hit and now he has to defend. And he can defend, but it is just getting harder and harder to do that. And he knows it and his opponents know it too. And now, for Rafa to win, he has to gain the initiative early in the point and NOT LOSE IT. There are subtle ins and outs of what this amounts to and some variation in shot selection, but if he can't do it, he is vulnerable.

It's weird to me how callous fans can be after an elite sportsman has given us so much for 20 years. Both Roger and Rafa - such exciting players to watch. Really sad to see them go. I don't enjoy the tennis of these very tall players with their big serves no matter how nice guys they are. Even Djokovic I will miss when he retires. Tennis perfection. I just hope Alcaraz and Sinner can stay fit so we have them for the next 20 yrs but I doubt it. Tennis has changed; it's much faster now. More difficult for players to stay injury free, mentally and physically.

I believe that Rafa will retire his legacy at Roland garros as it should be 🏆🥇🏆 💔 as the bull, 22 Grand Slams 🏆🥇🏆 When half of your life has been spent being the best of the best, winning tennis tournaments around the world 💯% Rafa has to be feeling great emotions 💔 leaving behind a great era into retirement 😢 Most of us have enjoyed the 3 other greatest players of our time, Federer, Djokovic and Murray, with adoration & respect for their game/s 🫶 I want Rafa to retire before he has caused more injuries to himself 😢🙏 and not keep playing like Murray, who won't quit because of his love of the game & has already had hip replacement etc. 😢 Rafa Nadal will go down in History as the Bull & I will miss him incredibly 💔 I only want what is best for him & his legacy 🫶 I'm enjoying watching all of the younger generation winning matches in their prime but it also concerns me seeing the number of injuries they're already enduring 😢 I don't recall seeing this happen with Rafa, Roger or Novak 🥇🥇🥇 Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so. Just saying !!! Rafa Will Always be #1 and Have a Place in My Heart ❤️

But he says that he has not said this will be his last tournament here. I am very surprised to hear this, because he says it was his last in Madrid, and that this is his final year. If you listen in the video he says that the organizers of Rome will have the opportunity to make a tribute to him, like they just did in Madrid, the next year(SSSS)?! potentially, so I am thinking that Nadal has had more progress when training and practicing than what he managed to show today on court and that he does not want to share his plans because he was feeling better than expected in Madrid, but is up and down nowadays, and I believe the conditions at RG will be better for him, slower I guess, and that he is now testing his body more and more with some better results than expected. I think Nadal really wants to play and also create a memory for his young boy so that he can remember to have seen Nadal plaing or winning a tournament. I also think he should be reminded that many of the top tennis players in fact carry injuries themselves and we can actually be glad that Sinner is having some injury issues, that Djokovic probably not will be able to win another slam due to age decline. I think many of the coaching teams train their players too hard and that the players get many smaller injuries all the time. I think it is ridiculous to see Tsitsipas and Ruud playing 3 or 4 tournaments in a row after having had very deep runs in all of them, and now you see the results, Ruud has back problems and lost against a player like Kecmanovic and I do not think Tsitsipas will be at his prime at RG this year.
