      R R Huge Federer fan though I am, I fully agree. To beat Roger Federer is one thing. To beat the entire Wimbledon crowd is something else entirely. A staggering achievement for Djokovic, I gained a new respect for him.

    • @pauljohnson6019
      @pauljohnson6019 Před 4 lety +20

      Sorry I disagree, Federer has very weak mental strength, he needed to focus all his energy and belief into that ONE ace, at 40-15, and not panic, or rush, this is where Nadal, had he had these 2 mp, would never have blown it, he would have either hit an ace, or service winner, or grinded the point out somehow, until Novak submitted, Federer badly needs prayer, and sports psychologist, to get rid of these demons.

      @@pauljohnson6019 I don't think Federer has a weak mentral strength, his 2009 and 2017 seasons prove it, or even matches like his 2011 RG semi-final against Novak or his 2020 AO match against Sandgren. But I do think his mental strength is not at the level of Rafa and Nole and he slipped some crucial points, so we can say we have seen both sides of him.

      It‘s harder to be the crowd‘s favorite than one might think. Look at Novak at the US Open final 2021 and how he got crushed by his fans, not deliberately of course. Winning this championship at the 12-12 tie break of the fifth set it's like win in football on the final penalties, it's true: djokovic win and he's one of the greatest player, Federer wasn't the favourite in the semi and in the final too... He beat Nadal and so close to beat djokovic at 38 yo, a true legend of the sport! he hasn't nothing to demonstrate to anyone anymore.. . The story of the GOAT is insignificant.

    The amount of commonality in this match and the one in 2009 doesn't end at the final forehand shank or the 10 year difference. Federer lost his previous 2 final encounters to Novak in 2014 and 2015, exactly 10 years after Roddick lost his respective encounters against Federer in 2004 and 2005

      Yep. And I think it proves that the edge Djokovic has over Federer and Rafa is in mental toughness. Now, I'm not saying that Djokovic isn't very skillful. I would say Novak dug in those other matches and earned it the hard way. This match was different. It felt as though Fed wasn’t expected to win, perhaps should not have been in a position to win vs Djokovic especially following the emotional semifinal vs Rafa.
      Yet, despite all this, he was able to step back to the fold after losing 2 tough breakers, and was able to set himself up for victory in the 5th. Furthermore in that game, poor shot selection, tactics, and possibly nerves for the better of him.
      In short, this match ended with the feeling like Federer let it slip away rather than Djokovic pulling it from him.
