That crucial period of games took Nadal's legs out for the rest of the match. It explained why Rafa looked slower defending afterwards, as well as making bad dropshots and net plays out of desperation. But, of course, a big part of that was because Fed's rally backhand drive sucked and he was terrible at dealing with Rafa's high kicking ball to his backhand. It's like a cheat code because it's almost impossible to get such a ball back in play. Even if the player does return the ball it will still land in his strike zone. On clay almost everyone was terrible dealing with that kicking ball, including the double handed backhanders. Novak was able to do it but couldn't maintain it for many hours. Anyone who plays tennis at an intermediate or high level... or even if you watch and appreciate the game at the court level, knows the toll it can take on your body.
Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem are two players who put in the most effort, physically and mentally per shot... look at what happened to Thiem. In addition to his injury, he is also mentally burnt out. An average bloke won't even last 6 months, let alone 2 decades if they replicate Nadal's style...the effort and toll, on the body and mind is colossal.
In addition to the stars being aligned and genetics, the reason Rafael Nadal was able to sustain for so long: his greatest weapon, his mindset. He has turned debilitating OCD (atleast on court) to a weapon- I have to fight and suffer and absolutely not give up on every point and additionally destroy my opponent...regardless of whether my mind body or emotions cooperate. It's the same "psychopathic" mindset Jordan and Kobe Bryant had. Win or die trying.

@alburaq3290 As a tennis coach myself, i will absolutely teach the Djokovic way.
Obviously, you can't replicate 100% of player attributes. But the core basics of the Djokovic game: his stroke mechanics (best in the game) is very much replicable, and also his balance on the shots. I would neither teach Federer's FH and BH. It looks pretty, but the wrist work and timing needed is sheer talent. Rafa, for obvious reasons, too much stress on the body.

Hubi match without 3 sets and atleast 1 tiebreaker, means the opponent didn't play well!

Proof you don't need to grunt to play well and win.

hurkacz is the grim reaper of big 3 players careers - if he beats you at what seems to be the end, you know you are doomed (Federer Wimbledon 2021)

Sad to see Nadal at this stage in his career. Not the same Nadal that won Wimbledon in 2008. Congrats to Hubie for the win.

Nadal didn't make a final at Wimbledon since 2011. He has long been done there.

@@huzcer You miss my point. That was when Rafa was at his prime. He is not moving as well, the pace of his serves and groundstrokes are not the same. Much weaker player now.

Not the same as 2008 lmao...2008 was SIXTEEN YEARS ago. None of us are what we were 16 years ago.

@@2011hwalker Rafa was in his prime, he was 22 in 2008. The injuries and age has taken a toll. I just don't see him winning another major.

Thiem retires, Rafa retires, a sad year for tennis.
