How is Emily selfish? Emily wanted to get married or to be truly loved. When Victor appeared she thought she would have a chance with him, yet Victor liked Victoria, and she felt like Victoria was the one stopping her from finally having someone to love or marry. But she realised that her actions where not fair so she gave up her love. She got her revenge and was then, able to move on. I would'n call that selfish, she recognized her mistakes, and corrected them, that is something that selfish people never do.

She was selfish AT FIRST. It's her character arc that she's possessive of Victor and obsessed with making him love her because she didn't get to be loved.

Emily was in Denial of her past she wasn't selfish but she was unaware of the selfishness she possessed from her Desire of Fantasy of a happily ever After, but once Emily sees Victoria it was a reflection of her own past of how her groom betrayed and abandoned her as Emily said "Left for Dead" because of the reveal of Emily's Murder to be the groom himself "lord Barkus" Emily's past has revive as clear as the Day they met,the shocking reveal left Emily face Reality and Victor to grow up to be Man and fought with no awkwardness or concerns compared to the begginning of the movie, and once Emily Finally realized and faced reality from the word's of her Ex groom made her see the bigger picture, accepting reality, moving on and giving the younger youth's which were Victoria and Victor to be of wedded couple, her vengeance and peace was Lifted once her betrayer Lord Barkus faced his consequences for his actions, with accepting and moving on from the past and facing Reality, she found peace

Victor and Victoria were literally already engaged and wanted to marry each other before Victor even met Emily. Emily basically abducted Victoria’s fiancé and tried to force him to marry her. How was Victoria the one behaving questionably here 😂
Victor agreed to marry Emily because he sympathized with her pain, but he never seemed exactly happy to be in the underworld with her against his will, and seemed to want to reunite with Victoria the whole time and only gave up when he felt he had no choice. I don’t think Emily is the villain, but Victor wasn’t in love with her and didn’t really want to marry her, forcing him to do so because she has unresolved trauma is not fair to Victor.

I completely agree, I would call some behaviour of Emily selfish yes, but jesus christ she was horribly murdered by the man she naively loved. Victoria was trapped in a cold and unfair household and forced to marry because of financial difficulties. Victoria is horribly kind given her circumstances. Emily realized at the end that what she was doing was wrong. They are (or were) humans and made mistakes.

  • @charlene4419

I do not agree with Victoria being selfish. Being rude to Lord Barkis?? I think she could sense something off about him, he was arrogant from the start, of course she doesn't like him! And calling her behaviour wrong is a bit ridiculous. I do not blame her at all for going to the wedding, she loves Victor, they were SUPPOSED to get married. Emily is the one that literally stole Victor xD.

"We don't even get to know Victoria", imagine being so out of touch, that you need to get to know her, to understand she's in love with Victor, wants his well being and would be a better bride than a corpse.
"We spend time with her (Emily) and Victor as a couple" nope, we spend time with him trying to comfort her and at the same time escape from her, while she's in love with the idea of getting married and almost agrees to his death to achieve that goal.
Imagine people calling Victoria selfish, when she was the one who Victor wanted to marry since the beginning. And how are you gonna victim blame her for not wanting to stay with the literal villain, who showed signs of being a disgusting predator and clearly was in it for an ulterior motive. It's ok if people feel pity for Emily because she was traumatized and needed to be saved from her situation, but she never even loved Victor to begin with, she was just delusional.
Sometimes people forget that it's Emily the one who tried to steal Victor from Victoria and not the opposite and I think that people finishing this movie with those takes, shouldn't be in a relationship to begin with, because they can't understand the difference between coercion and love and between selfishness and fighting for your man. Y'all have a protagonist complex.

I think she did love him in a way -- because when the elder told her in order for their marriage to be legit he'd have to die, she didn't want to do it. If she was 100% hellbent on fulfilling her marriage, then she would've been like: "Okay, lets poison him."

My favorite is that Emily's body was preserved in this way...
So, she lived in the world of the Dead for about 9-10 years, and I think that's because they should get to know her so well. Then, since it's very cold where the story takes place, especially in the forest, I think that Emily came across an oak tree around winter and stayed there to wait for nine years until her body was covered in ice and snow and thus she remained intact. So yes, that preserved her and that means she was dead for 19 years and Victoria is about 19. I think Emily is Maulin's sister because they have a piano at Villa Evergot, which was Villa Merrimack until all the Merrimacks died. We know little or nothing about Emily's, theoretically Maudlin's, parents. Although, as the video says, the people who go there have unfinished business, so I think the only wish of Emily's parents is to marry off one or both of their daughters happily. They could only assume that after her disappearance, Emily had run away, that they had learned of their meeting in the woods through the letter Barkis had sent her with the escape plan. So, since Maudlin married Finis and Emily supposedly married Barkis, they had no unfinished business, so they went to heaven, of course if they were good people, and I have no doubts about Emily.
Back to the piano, Maudlin didn't let Victoria play the piano for a reason - so that she wouldn't become passionate about music like Emily and leave, and so Maudlin would lose all chances of getting the money she lost after Emily took it from the safe. I don't think Finnis was rich, he was just another poor man seeking the hand of an aristocrat.
Then, Maudlin hates her daughter's appearance because she is beautiful and starts her on Emily, whom she hates for leaving them with nothing, but she has no idea that Emily didn't get the happy ending she thinks. That's my theory anyway.
And why did Maudlin let Victoria marry Barkis? I have no idea if the Merrimacks ever met Barkis, so there is a possibility that they did not.

they are NOT sisters or related. victoria looks Jewish, the candle holder shape and the conservative dress. while Emily wears much revealing clothing, showing her shoulders and laid-down hair. One knows how to play the piano, the other is more conservative to do so. emily might have been Victorias AUNT, her mother's sister. or related in an indirect way
