    Correction at 7:23: these are all class A/B amps, not class-A.

    Thanks Peter!! This proves my thoughts. I pull less than 70A at highest point on my A/B 3 amp setup for SQ! I’m sharing your video!! No one believes me!!

    Thank you for that demo. It proves again that electrical power and SPL/loudness are only distant relatives. IB, rigid installation and minimizing all possible losses will get your more db/Watt. Efficiency can often be an indicator for build quality and wise component choices.... in the end we all want to listen to pure (loud) music as close as possible to the recording or intention of the production/artist. Really enjoy all your videos.

    @Pssound- Very nice demonstration. Impressive sound for only 81 Amps drawn, @ max pull. For my loudest competition, SPL run, i pulled 1,115 AMPS👀!

      Ohh SPL with power hungry is a different game! I have many friends who do that kind of madness with 1000s of amps pulled.

      @evilinside5984 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@pssound9749 That 1,115 amps pulled was from just 2- 3500 watt "Rated" amplifiers. And was done on 18 volts! I wasn't trying to compare, to what you are showing. I myself, was surprised by my amperage pull test. I was wired to a .6 ohm load, and these 2- "3500's" were straped= .3 ohms per amp!

    One thing is speakers impedance. Lower impedance needs more power. If you run your subwoofer 1 ohm you'll need much more power from battery than if you run same sub in 4 ohm. And you still might not play it any louder in 1 ohm especially when you use just your ears to measure spl level.

    • @Jonas_Aa
      @Jonas_Aa Před 5 měsíci +1

      Depends. If you lower the impedance then you would need to lower the volume to that amp since otherwise it would play to loud compared to the rest of the system. 100 W to speaker is same current in at 1 or 4 Ohm.

  • @AlexWayne1
    @AlexWayne1 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Pete, the Title says "How Power" you're missing the word "much".
    80Amps though, crazy little power. i thought it would easily pull 150Amps.

      Thank you! Late night posts can easily have typos! 😃
      Yeah, people don’t know how much an active SQ system pulls. Even at the presented demo levels tweeters & mids use like 10-20W, midbass 30-50W, front sub 100W and rear sub uses like 300-400W and yet you get concert/club levels that make you deaf easily.

    When I turn the volume up to around 80% (and above), my headlights dim at night.
    Here are my amplifiers for my 3Way :
    Steg k4.01 (midrange + tweeters) AB
    Steg k2.01 (woofers) AB
    Esx vx2000 pro (subwoofer) D
    Steg sdsp68 D
    The original alternator is a 150A (FOCUS ST MK3 250)
    I have a YUASA AGM battery and I've replaced almost all the halogen bulbs with LEDs :( .

      @AlexWayne1 Před 5 měsíci +3

      you are probabaly clipping an amp. clipping will easily double or tripple the amp draw but wont make it louder.

    • @rajasekhar9840
      @rajasekhar9840 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Measure the current draw and add a second battery closer to the amps, it will help a lot.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 Před 5 měsíci

      That is all completely normal. The dimming of lights is simply due to the voltage dipping. The LED headlight bulbs should be regulated and not show any signs of dimming.

    • @AlexWayne1
      @AlexWayne1 Před 5 měsíci

      @@JasonWW2000 well, maybe, but clipping an amp will pull a lot more power. so i'd make sure i am not clipping anything and then go from there.
      it might have been better to say "Make sure you arent clipping anything" in my first comment.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 Před 5 měsíci

      If you are going to run a dedicated power wire for all of these amplifiers then you definitely need to have fuses. Some fuses are there to protect the wiring from burning down your car and other fuses are there to protect the equipment from burning internally. Each amplifier should have a recommended fuse size for it. Each of those G4 amplifiers recommends a 60 amp fuse. If your battery is in the front and the amplifiers are in the rear I would recommend a single run of 1/0 copper power cable. This will minimize voltage loss and give you some extra amperage capability if you were to add an additional amplifier later on. You would need to add a fuse as close as possible to the battery and it could be anywhere between 100 and 300 amps. 300 amps would be about the upper limit to protect that wire, but since you're not going to be drawing a lot of amperage you could probably use a 100 to 150 amp fuse. In the rear of the vehicle you should get a power distribution block to divide that 1/0 into a pair of 4 gauge and each 4 gauge should have a 60 amp fuse.
      The other equipment such as the DSP is only going to need a couple of amps and you can have a separate small inline fuse coming off that main power distribution block.
      If your battery is in the rear of the vehicle, where the amplifiers are going to be, then you could probably use a short run of 4 gauge copper wire. You would need a fuse size between 100 and 120 amps for this smaller wire. All the rest of what I said still applies.

      Well, obviously not as much as people think. We have around 1800W rms on the given speakers and if you calculate from 80A on 12.5v (average we could maintain with OEM battery and a 30A power supply) multiplied by efficiency of amps, then you roughly get around 600W that is actually used at even these ear blasting levels.
