Such an easy job. VT1100......the frame is in the way so you have to remove the motor from the bike. Watching this video, I guess maybe go ahead and drain the oil before first. Good job!
I just got an 04 1300s for 500 bucks...runs like a DEMON. After 10 or so miles I got the water light. Gonna try to simply change coolant but I might be in for a job just like this.
Thank you for the 1st comment! Yes. That is the only way to re-fill the coolant. If you have not started I recommend you change the oil while your there.
I spent a whole day doing it but much of the time was spent reading and checking myself. I also had to buy a torque wrench. If one has mechanic experience and is confident then should take less than two hours I would guess. It is not hard but this was first time for me.
Thanks Anthony! I don't know if you watched it far enough to get that I made the video for me, then decided to put it on youtube for others because I did not find another video that described how to do it.
I guess you haven't watched a lot of diy videos on the internet then... Bill, great job. I searched youtube for a thorough diy video, and this was by far the most in depth one I found on the subject. I appreciate you taking the time to put this together! Don't let negative comments prevent you from doing more videos.
Sorry if I missed it but why did he replace the water pump? I’m having an overheating issue and I’m trying to diagnose a friend of mine said water pump but I’m not sure does he tell us why the water pump was replaced and or how to diagnose that it’s a bad water pump.
The water pump was dripping coolant. There is a weep hole in the water pump where the leak was. Once I took it off I found the pump bearing was bad and did not allow it to turn freely.

I like the premise of your video: "I've never done this before but I'm going to and here is what I did." That is exactly what I am doing. Thanks!
Thanks for the informative video Bill, nice job! I have an 04 VTX 1300S and I'm sure some day this water pump replacement will come up.
Fingers crossed that it doesn't! Not that it is a big deal.

Firstt Lastt yes just to replace coolant. Have to completely drain coolant so may as well flush an refill while doing the pump.

How long did it take from start to finish?
