Dramatic proof and a stunning revelation from sporting legend Ian Roberts that the "head knocks" that are so common in contact sport are causing brain damage. No matter the code - AFL, league, union or soccer - concussions and other head injuries are leading to a rise in cases of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

If you've never played these sports, and actually experienced what these guys are describing, you really can't imagine it. I played American Football, and let me tell you, the vibration, that buzzing when you get hit super hard and you weren't able to brace for it, it feels like a powerful electric shock shooting thru your whole body, while at the same time you're put in this foggy haze, a dreamlike trance, and you forget for a moment what the hell is going on, and it can happen multiple times in one game sometimes... You don't have to be a doctor to know that what you just experienced wasn't good for your head at all!!

After being outraged with what has just happened this week to 3 little children and mum...who were set-on-fire by a crazy man (her husband)...Wondering, as no one can understand this kind of act!!! Maybe? his brain was 'gone', from something like this?....Because he did play football. I can only think it must have been, because to do such an act to his family, seems impossible unless he had some kind of Brain Damage.

I hope and pray that you are ok. It seems like a pretty normal thing for the men to seek out some form of sports and violence. The instincts to hunt and gather have to find a way to express themselves in our modern society.

Having been close to ice hockey players for observation during a season and speaking with some that have had concussion, I can only agree that it should be mandatory to not be allowed to play in order to recover. Instead, in the moment or due to sports funding, people turn a blind eye and allow players back on the ice, on the field etc.. Thankfully people in the know are becoming more aware of this problem and that can only be a good thing. It is great that athletes are coming out and letting this problem be more known & talking openly about it.

Is it just me, or is Ian Roberts speaking in general a bit 'off'... you can smell his brain damage from the way he talks subtly. No disrespect, nice guy great athlete etc, but on topic of CTE...

I'm getting called soft because I am trying to tell the idiot ARL fans so many legends now have dementia.

Let's not forget about Second Impact Syndrome... this is a lot more common in Boxing and MMA, but still very much applies to ALL contact sports... If you've been concussed during a game, and you get concussed again, it can have VERY severe, and immediate consequences, never mind dementia when you're 60, we're talking dire consequences right then and there...

I know this comment is 2 yrs old now, but I totally agree. Concussion on top of concussion can be a real disaster.

If the powers that be are so concerned, why not make head gears compulsory 🤷‍♂️

  • @Alekosdw

Put a head gear on a mouthguard too

Believe it or not, as long as you don't crack you're skull, head gear makes it worse. Apperently the brain bounces off the side of the skull, then again when skull hits the helmet.

  • @j.aguirre-mcmorrow1501

Solution is dont play. Plenty of other sports that are safe.

I've been KO'd playing soccer from a head clash. Guy was shorter than me, both at full sprint at each other. His forehead -> my eye socket. Stood up, went sideways and back down again. Unless you pick up tennis or bowling or pool, it's unavoidable. Playing sports has massive physical and general health advantages. Best is education on how to deal with it should it happen. Combat the "run it off" attitude.
