It’s the finest of legal lines - at what point does a Good Samaritan go too far and become a vigilante Russell Harrison came to the rescue of a young mother as she was being attacked in her own home. He almost certainly saved the woman’s life, but during the scuffle he killed the intruder. Russell faced the very real prospect of being charged with murder. So how far can you go to protect your home and your family or even your neighbour? As Steve Pennells discovered, the answer is anything but clear.

Amen, that is my God given right, whatever i have to do to survive, the intruder has no rights. These liberal people are committing a crime joinly with the intruder by endorsing the criminals with their enterprises & not supporting laws that protect you & your property, they are abetting them. Crimes have to be paid for by paying the price. What right do these liberal socialists have to say, you & yours don't matter or your money doesn't count. The elderly & poor don't always have the resources to replace stolen items. They are often targets!

Duhhhhhh When any individual or group chooses to commit a crime esp if choosing to come into someone else’s home w/o permission whether it be for the intent to commit theft or do harm they forfeit certain rights by their own bad decisions.

If the person/s that broke in didnt do it then nothing would happen in the first place. I commend the US soldier for saving that poor womans life! If he wasnt, it could/would be a different story. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home and i agree that the home owner/s have every right to defend themselves.
I used to live in a small country town where doors/windows were left unlocked, keys left in cars etc. We moved to a reasonably size country city and can honestly say i wouldnt feel safe if i didnt have my husband or my dog because of the drug related violence, break and enters etc. We should have the right to protect our homes.

I dont argue peoples rights to defend themselves and their homes from danger. Self defense is different to Offense and to vengeance. How are you defending yourself from someone who has been deterred and is trying to escape. Making sure a disrupted intruder doesnt escape before the police come is NOT self defense. Your fear and anger in the moment do not deputise you. It is for the police to pursue criminals. Im less scared by people being erratic, irrational and dangerous cause they are high than I am by people who are irrational or displaying a low emotional IQ dead straight.

like seriously unless your nation has proper health care systems in place that don't put you one leg into abject poverty, you don't have a proper gage for what's ethical or humanitarian.

How did we go from someone putting his hands around a defenseless victim's neck to the healthcare system?
Edit: Do you have any idea how many innocent people die during home invasions?

but that American guy ran into another person's house, and the woman had run to them already. he should have called the police , the guy wasn't in his house

No, the program said the American man ran over to the neighbor's house while she was being attacked by the invader. The American then fought with the invader, allowing the woman to escape to safety. He didn't run into the neighbor's house to attack the criminal, but to protect his neighbor. The hero didn't commit a crime in defending the neighbor woman, but potentially stopped her from dying.

Sorry Russel, you picked the wrong country to live in to defend your home or a neighbour’s life as you can’t use deadly force in the right circumstance in Australia unless you have a badge or you save the chief of police or the judge’s daughter, so next time stay calm and call the police straight away and keep your distance while your wife or neighbour is being strangled to death and try to reason with the perpetrator until the police arrive and after that’s all over all you’ve got to do is go to a funeral and the bad guy goes to jail providing the police haven’t put you on a charge they can find to protect one of there partners in crime. EASY AAAH RUSS.
