  • In this video, I'm going to explain why you shouldn't be cheap when working on a common rail engine. By doing so, you may end up causing more damage than good.
    If you're planning on working on a common rail engine, you need to be careful not to be cheap. Cheap work on common rail engines can lead to a lot of damage, and in some cases, even engine failure. Hey Rob, thanks for explaining this to us. This was very educational. I had never considered that a common rail would continuously spray fuel if the injector hangs open!

    but seriously . the common rail system, its a great design and simple, and darn it they run very smoothly, are easily modified to respect- able power. cp 3 are inexpensive and durable, there is a lot to love.
    engines are quiet, reliable, powerful,
    if....
    you maintain them. abuse them and neglect them , and just like a good woman , will , they will leave you with broken heart and empty wallet.
    recently i got in a 6.7 the sludge- and im not making this up, was a pudding that covered all but the very tip of the injectors.all. rocker box was full.
    this engine had- get ready for this , SIX spun rod bearings. i have photo proof. the piston oilers were- every one of them, plugged to where i could not blow through them
    the bores are perfect pistons look like new and did actually deceive a visitor to the shop into thinking they are going back in. and he knows engines.
    rods black on big end - shot.
    point is, take care of your baby and she will take care of you. the common rail is not a tractor with a license plate like the gen 1,2.
    its a sophisticated piece of gear will billions of road hours proving its worth.
    just needs love fellas- like any good woman does.

    M and d diesel in Houston sells the best injectors. Oldest and largest diesel shop in the country. They work on oil rigs, ships doesel engines they partner with bosh and their rebuilt injectors are shimmed better than new bosch units. Sukan is the expert there. A set of injectors is 2400. Not alot of money for piece of mind.

    I appreciate your advice..I probably never going to own a common rail truck for that very reason. . I heard stories about them eating pistons from bad injectors and the price of the parts . Not for me . Thanks for the videos .

      @Bloodbain88 Před 9 měsíci

      @@barrycraig4773It being a 1994 should have a P7100 injection pump and definitely not a common rail. I got the 12 valve for my swap out of a 1997 Ford F-800 box truck. It might have small differences from the engines that came in the pickups. Different transmission adapter plate. Different exhaust manifold. Different serpentine belt setup. Different air intake horn. The coolant intake pipe will be a 90° and not a straight one. Little stuff like that. It probably has a 20+ quart capacity oil pan.
      Oh yeah and make sure it's actually a 5.9 and not an 8.3 they look similar. 5.9 12 valve will have 6 separate valve covers. 8.3 will have a single cover. Also a 5.9 has the fuel injectors on the passenger side by the exhaust manifold. The 8.3 has the injectors on the driver side.

I sure can’t afford to make a mistake on this one so that is why I follow you Sir hoping to find one of your videos to guid me through this.

    Thanks for the input,Im new to diesel world,and I'm your typical idiot,so help like this is awsome,Im currently looking at 1996 F-800 truck with a 5.9 Cummins in it,I ask the guy to give me a video of the oil cap sitting to see if there was any blow by which it was not,however the vibration knocked it off eventually,any advice you can give would be awsome gonna look at it this week but its a 5 hour ride one way,I sure hope this 18' long bed of a truck can handle the 6%grades of western pa.

    • @CUTTERUPROB
      @CUTTERUPROB  Před 4 měsíci +1

      On something like that. If you pull the cap off with it running and up to temp. If it’s pop smoke out or lots of smoke that’s not good. Or if it’s pushing a bunch of oil out of the byblow tube is a bad sign

    Hey rob im building one of those Frankenstein Ford Cummins trucks using a 1975 f250 ext cab and a 96 extended cab Dodge frame I've had lots of p pump motors and myself personally I like the ve motors alot more what all am I going to have to do to this ve motor I'm trying to get 400hp I am going to tow with the truck a lot

    • @bcbloc02
      @bcbloc02 Před 9 měsíci

      400hp ve is cake but if you want to tow using the 400 you will need towing twins and a huge radiator. The same goes for a p7100 engine though for that matter. I tow 20-30k gross very often with my dyno proven 433hp 1025tq ve but I can probably only sustain 300 to the tire before I have to back down from coolant temps.

  • @keiferjanz3197
    @keiferjanz3197 Před 9 měsíci +3

    You need to know what your doing messing with common rail. The injection system is at such high pressures compared to old mechanical stuff… also you can do a fair bit of diagnosing simply isolating your 3 fuel returns and measuring the volume from injectors, rail and the pump… do not recommend Amazon special injectors just for that reason… I would not trust a 150$ injector when new ones are like 500-600$… cutting cost somewhere
