That's great to hear. I have a set of the previous gen Jobeky 3ply heads. They performed great, but they felt a tad thin to me. So I'm glad there's a new version. I wonder if Jobeky is using the same supplier to make these new heads as SD because you mentioned they feel the same.
Yeah, I went back to your review and VDrumTips' when researching and noticed how different they appeared to be. I spotted that there was a post about a new range of heads on their Facebook page about 6 months after your review video, so looks like they've been using these ones for a while now!

We are all so different in our preferences. I have Zed Triple X for years now and I prefer them to real feels and I am sure the Jobekys if they are as similar as Luke found them to be. Never tried the Roland Tripp yet probably won't as I am happy with mine. To each his own! Happy drumming
Yeah, everyone has a different expectation of what "feels" right, for sure. I was never enamoured with the Z-ED Triple X heads. I think they're great for the low price, but I find them a bit too spongy. It will also depend on things like the construction of the trigger and how you've set the trigger parameters up for your style too. A lot goes into it! Thanks for weighing in, always valuable!
Welcome back! I recently switched to these from Jobeky 2ply. It is a subtle but better change. Jane from Jobeky told me these are made at the same factory as Drum Tec's.

Best feel for me. I use all heads they make from 8 to 22 inch for my own conversions.
Also try using a loose tension on larger toms and on my kick I use the same tension as I do my acoustic and the t is finger tight on the batter head. 22 inch drum using 2 internal side mount triggers connected to one jack
Stellar review as always Luke! Thinking of picking up a set for the whole kit, have you found any difference in trigger response between these and thinner heads? I'm sold on the feel being improved, I'm curious as to if we loose some sensitivity with the thicker heads? I'm currently using ZED Triple Ply's, I understand these are 3 ply's on the thinner side compared to these new Jobeky's, they are a little more transparent... If anyone has noticed any difference with the thicker heads and how they relate to trigger response I'm all ears!
Thanks David! Still not taken the plunge, eh? 😅 I've not had any loss of sensitivity on the triggers I've used them with, no. There's no guarantee that every trigger will be fine with them, but I've not run into anything even noticeable so far.
hi Luke, at what height is the r-drums kick pad replacement in relation to the head? that is, is it actually flush with the head or is it lower since the piezo cone is 1.5mm above the bearing edge? great comparison vid !!
Great video Luke. I know you did mention the Roland digital, but can you say again. how the stock Roland digital compares to these, the Real Feel and the Roland 2 ply? Cheers
It's been a while since I've used the Roland one as I managed to damage mine due to badly packing things in my gig cases. But from what I remember, the feel was very similar to the Real Feel and these Jobeky heads. Definitely much nicer on a larger drum than the Roland 2 ply heads - less bouncy and a more "acoustic"-like rebound (like the other 3 ply heads).
Great review, out of interest what do you use for your resonant heads if anything? Also, do the black rims help with anything other than accidental rim shots? Thanks!
Thanks! I usually just throw a cheap 1 ply mesh head on the reso side, though a couple of my drums have cheap 2 or 3 ply ones but not for any particular reason - that's just what I had lying around. Having a reso head lets you keep the bottom rim/hardware on, on but keeping it mesh lets all the air out rather than actually resonating.
The rim guards are pretty much just for protecting the stick when hitting the rim, yeah. If your sticks are chewed up, they're more likely to snag on a mesh head and damage it.

I was thinking of taping a sound off pad that is 2" smaller than my drum and using a ddrum pro trigger to sense the exposed mylar. Then I could switch between acoustic or electric quickly. Do you think this would work?
Id like to try them but my 20 year old Rolands just wont wear out! Very durable.

Hi Luke I’ve just swapped my old 2 ply Jobeky heads for their 3 ply and they have changed the trigger on the snare massively. It’s now triggering the rim shot on most of the head bar the very centre. Any ideas how to fix please ? Wondering if it’s a sensitivity setting in the module or whether I need to adjust the foam centre trigger ? Cheers
I've had these Jobeky prestige heads for 6+ months and I don't see any signs of wear. They feel great too

As I'm a bit of an eDrum beginner (and a hack drummer anyway), I think I'll stay with the Roland heads for the time being. They seem to be very durable (been on the kit I bought second hand about two years ago) and I'm not sure I'd benefit from any difference in feel.

Are the Jobeky Prestige 3-ply mesh heads realy white or OFF white ?
They're very white. Doesn't come out the best in that room due to the somewhat orange lighting but they're not that sort of semi-grey colour that some heads are.
Would you have any idea how these would work on a 22 inch bass drum? I'm looking to convert acoustic into electric but heard some people say 22 is too big for a mesh head.
I've not tried these heads on a 22" myself, but I wouldn't say it's too big for mesh. However, you might need/want to add some cushioning behind the head as the mesh can become a bit bouncy once you get to that sort of size. You could fit some foam in there like I have, or you could use blankets/pillows like you might to muffle an acoustic head.

I use billyblast 3 ply on a 22 inch with 2 internal side mounted triggers . With the same tension as a acoustic kick. Finger tight on the batter head. Dbl pedal approved .

Even smaller pads like my 8" kd80 have a foam cushion to support the head against the beater. You shouldnt have any problem. Check out Convertible Percussions triggers. Very nice and inexpensive.

You think all of these guys get the heads from the same manufacturer and just slap their own logo/price on top? That's definitely not unheard of in the diy industry...
Personally I'm very underwhelmed by the engineering (and lack thereof) that has gone into developing electronic drum heads. You can make bigger drums and cymbals and better sounds and triggering but at the end of the day - playing a two ply Roland head is just nothing like an acoustic mylar head.
I realize that there's a pretty significant physical hurdle involved in producing something that mimics a solid sheet with perforated material, allowing air to escape overtop the drum - but mesh, even 3 ply mesh, does not come that close to mylar.
This is definitely an area I would love to see Roland tackle, with different options, sound profiles etc as I don't feel like their 3 ply is an endgame head, although still a great improvement over their standard heads.

I know what you mean, looks like they've settled on mesh as the standard now and it's only really Yamaha that's sticking with their sillicone as an alternative (for now, at least). I've still not had a proper go on their pads so I ought to get one at some point, they're supposed to be pretty good in terms of feel. But they're definitely not cheap enough for most and you can't buy them in any other format to use with different triggers, understandably. I suppose mesh must be a reasonably predictable material in terms of triggering for the most part.
Have you ever tried the drum-tec Pro ones? I've only tried the 16" on my kick but it's very different to any other mesh I've used. I'd definitely consider giving them a go on my whole kit if I had the money to burn as noise isn't an issue in my current room. Can't justify the cost for an experiment at the moment. I get the feeling that they'll be the closest to mylar we'll see for some time unless someone comes out of left field with a new material.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop i have not but Justin said they were the most realistic ones he had ever tried. Does make sense since they're a thick 1 ply which is probably the closest one to a mylar head.
