- I show you how I install a Spool Helix Overdrive on my BMW F10 N55. I also make a permanent fix for the plastic throttle body mounting holes on the intake manifold by installing threaded metal inserts! Also, replaced my hacked up charge pipe with a brand new RVG Performance charge pipe

Awesome job!!!! 🤔 To Helix or not to Helix. That is the question.
Thanks! And that is a question for you and Sensei David! :)
What was your rail pressure at full throttle?
@@DJ-lc1en 2910-2950psi
@@turbospool that's without helix?
@@DJ-lc1en the Helix doesn’t dictate rail pressure. The DME does. The DME works in conjunction with the EKPS to bypass any excess pressure back to the tank so the rail will only hold what the DME requests.
What the Helix does it allow the engine to MAINTAIN target rail pressure when the HPFP reaches its limit (so I don’t experience high rpm pressure drop). I had not yet reached that limit with a 91oct tune. But once on ethanol’s flow requirements, we would have surpassed it. So this install is in preparation for ethanol tuning thats coming next
Video or link on how to remove low side fuel line that connects to HPFP that you had to bend?
Did not catch that in detail. All you need is a wrench. IIRC it’s the same size as what you’d use to break loose the feed pipe going to the front of the fuel rail. It’s simple
I also have a F10 2013 535 I. My car is pwg I haven't had any luck with finding the Helix overdrive for my car. Any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated
Dont quote me exactly but i believe half way through 2012 was when BMW went to the Bosch style HPFP (while I have the higher-flowing but older Continental HPFP from the N54). Spool and someone else make upgrades for your HPFP. Look at Spool Performance and check their FX line.
That's what I started to read up on but wanted to hear it from you since you actually did the Helix yourself. Thankyou Bro That was helpful
@@user-le4nk1pq2l good luck! It’s a game changer in fueling. Make sure you have tue in tank pump upgraded as well
Quick question bro I installed my helix but on WOT getting a fuel injection cutout. Do I need to get a different tune for it?
It depends on your car. So on the F10 you absolutely need custom tuning for the Helix. You are overdriving your HPFP by a factor of 3 so the DME is going to freak out when you put any sort of load on the engine. But (someone please correct me if Im wrong) on the E9x that also have this style HPFP, their MHD has a simple checkbox to indicate a Helix OD unit it on, and the tune will scale itself i to the ballpark for you
@turbospool oh okay I appreciate your help🙏 and get those videos keep coming best of luck with everything brotha!
@@davidnehez3534 fo sho dude good luck and enjoy that Helix!
Hello from France
So since 1 month what is your feesback ?
What think your tuner about it compare to midnight Fog'r700 ?
Hello! My tuner prefers the Helix by a lot. It is much easier to tune with Helix.
BUT- Midnight Motorsports is currently testing a newer, higher-capacity Fog’r WITH an injector controller system. I still like the Fog’r but it is just not an option that fits in an F10 due to space.
@@turbospool Yes but if you need controller that not the same price and not easy to intall too.
How much you think you will reach with Helix ?
@@erdart6463 i don’t know where the Max for the Helix is… I just know that it is more than enough for my goals lol. You may want to check out Spool Performance’s website for that information
@@erdart6463 and sorry! I got busy at work. I expect to be just over 500 horsepower at the rear wheels once I am tuned with Ethanol
What were the factors to go with Spools Helix vs PFS Pod HPFP or VTT single barrel ? Thx
Great question! So the VTT single barrel is a great idea but I just didn’t find much info out there as to its long term reliability. So I stuck to what I knew would work and knew what to expect from in the Helix. The PFS pod was just not an option for me. I did not want to pay almost $1200 for it, I had no need for the included rail as I never planned to go PI on this car, and lastly although it includes a support bracket (great!) it does not upgrade the vacuum pump face plate -which as you see on my video it is a frail thin cast aluminum thing. This is why I went Helix.
Thank you for the response. I’m leaning to the Helix too. These are neutral questions!
What is your research on the following.
Helix bracket is near the knock sensor.
Helix gear noise on start up?
Restrictive orifice of the factory fuel rail. People have drilled factory fuel rail. Where the PODs new fuel rail is already opened up.
@@edwardwerley8831 no issue at all with bracket placement and knock sensor.
At this point i have no issue with flow (at my current 91 octane). The strainer filter at the inlet of the HPFP can just be pulled off. I’ve read of the inlet of the fuel rail drilling thing but I have only seen it done on build that are much higher than I am setting this car up to so it’s nothing I will worry about. Noise is minimal at idle, and none during cold start. David Shoup can tune out the majority of the noise but some will always be there during idle. The only time I ever hear it though is when in against a wall in a drive through with the window open. If i close the window I don’t hear it
Great feedback.
I’m tuning with Wedge.
