    Iodized Salt, Baking Soda, and Cherry Jello mix all dry when put out works like a charm. People think you have to buy all the fancy products to have deer come in but you dont. Deer travel up to 7 miles or more depending on if its a big buck or not. Where I live there is a multitude of food source, so as long as you have something that they really like they will keep coming back. Thats just my experience.

      This isn't to attract deer like your $5 junk recipe, it's to keep them healthy and make them grow to their full potential.

      Salt and baking soda may be a decent attracting but has very little if any mineral value.

    Are their certain soil types that shouldn’t be used with mineral sites? Clay, sand, etc?

    Did anyone else notice that the footage of them racking the soil is being played backwards so it looks like the dirt is magnetized to the garden hoe? if not look again its trippy.

      Hi Jeff, the editing effect was used to speed up the video. On second view, it is kind of "trippy" as you note. Haha. Hope you enjoyed this informative show.

    Sounds like a promotional video for big& j to me...trace mineral blocks, bags, or just mix calicum, phosphate, can't remember percentage ratio...works very well or salt blocks....the deer will come if u keep the spot well supplied.

  • @williamgill_esq.6487
    @williamgill_esq.6487 Před 7 lety +18

    Better and cheaper to make your own mineral sites with dical phosphate and mix it with a bag of trace minerals, both available at your local
    farm coop.

    Putting all that bait on the ground makes the deer consume dirt. In the dirt are the prion for CWD. DO NOT BAIT ON THE GROUND! Deer are a ruminant and eating dirt is a no no for any ruminant. Better to get an giant block of wood and put your salt block on top and the deer will chew the wood for years....thus consuming NO prions and spreading CWD.

      Deer are attracted to freshly disturbed dirt. They are seeking out trace minerals in the soil. Deer also eat ashes out of my burning barrel.

      @@anthonythorp7291 I did an experiment once. Set up an above ground covered mineral feeder and 10 yards away put minerals on the ground and mixed in with dirt. Put a camera on it. The deer all chose the above ground feeder. Spoke to a wildlife biologist who said the reason the deer will eat the dirt with minerals is because they’re desperate and deficient, not because they like to eat dirt. They don’t eat dirt normally otherwise.

      I’m glad someone else thought the same thing, a also like placing minerals in different locations so it doesn’t make a routine every year and they don’t loose that foraging instincts.

    In reviewing this video ,first to be metabolized the elements need to be broken down to as small a size as possible. This is not done on this product. Do you know how long it takes for nuggets to break down and be absorbed in the omasum and abomasum ,They don't.. Much will be bypassed through. Its also calcium carbonate ,only about 18% absorption rate. Too low for deer. And you don't take dirt back into the pile.

    This mineral is "prilled". Many minerals are. I recommend a weatherized mineral that won't wash away.

  • @DrewVerdin
    @DrewVerdin Před 6 lety +6

    Dont yall think if its highly beneficial for your local deer herd to recieve minerals that its pretty stupid to outlaw it? No matter where your hunting location is. If it can only increase health of a herd then it should be legal no matter what. Just my opinion on the matter. God bless

      I think it most likely is due to prevention of the spread of chronic wasting disease. One of the symptoms is hyper salivation and the disease could be spread through saliva. If you have a bunch of deer licking and eating off the same pile it increases the chances of spreading the disease.

      Certain industries don't want healthy meat deer as it forces people to buy their foods because there were less deer.

    Minerals are unrealistic for most of us though. Who can afford $30 a bag x4 or 5 sites? Not anyone I know. Each site with only 2 bags a week is $150. I have 4 or 5 sites. Im not trying to hate, it's just not feasible. Im in Canada and $30 is average price for a bag of minerals

    I'm in new brunswick Canada these northern heards are more finicky and absolutely don't eat the same way the southern heards do, I've killed big bucks for 50 year's minerals in my area don't work vary well I've tested multiple thing's nothing beats a good bird seed including sunflower seeds and an occasional squash or apple , your observations focus on the lower 50 states alot , in Canada it's quite irrelevant they simply dont forage the same or like the same things , northern heards no what's best to digest and not to digest artificial shit does not cut it up hear.
