Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.

So many of us totally can't do without your reviews - you really do save our scrolling through endless, meaningless titles. Now I have a thought: instead of a "most underrated" kind of list, how about a "least overrated" set of movies? Turn it on its head. Or maybe mash all your descriptive titles up, like "Undercore spectarated shockgemtaculars!" and say that in your presentation. I know it's not exactly in the norm, but it would be fun for a list that took the movies that took the cake from your previous lists. What you do can't be easy, and it would be fun to see you add a twist like this.
Sisu royally sucked, really.
Oh, and John wick was bad.
Bro. Where’s my shirt. It said it’d deliver before Xmas 😅
Sisu was a blast! I’ve seen a couple of others on this list that I agree with. Looking forward to #’s 10,9,3,&2. Thanks! Do you do movies of the month?
Here in the UK I couldn't agree more about SISU - a fun-filled violent rollercoaster of a movie!
Sisu is amazing. As he said it never did what you expected.
Agreed! I found this gem in a local, family-owned Cinema that often screens little known and foreign films.
Sisu was great I loved the main characters dialogue.....😂
@@jarchdm I think the dog had more lines .... haha ... who needs to talk when there are Nazi's to kill ...
yes love that this was the top pic. i had enjoyed 2 other movies this actor and his son have done( rare exports and big game)
I'm an American living in Finland and I saw SISU in the movie theater when it was first released here..... I truly loved this movie and was recommending it to all my friends in America. It has become one of my favorite movies and I am waiting for it to come to Netflix.
you cant kill him, you'll just make him mad.
I love your lists! Im a massive film fan and i think you are one of the few reviewers that has his fingers on the pulse. Thank you
Renfield. My expectations were pretty low, but I was definitely surprised at how entertaining it was.
I second that. It was a fun flick!
It was one of the worst movies what the hell are u smoking?!
I did not know what to expect going into Sisu. I believe I heard about it on a podcast I was listening to and the podcaster said to go in to the film, blind, not watching the trailer. Glad I did. Definitely my favorite flick of the year.
SISU is an awesome film with interesting characters and a unique story! A friend of mine bought it a couple months back and couldn't stop talking about it. I said that it sounded interesting. So, she insisted that I take it home and watch it. I was hooked in from the start and blown away within the first 30 minutes. It's a very intense movie set during WWII and pretty gory!👍🏼
Again, this is another foreign film doing it better than what is the dumpster fire that is current Hollywood!
I just watched it, and was hoping I would feel the same way as you, but I was slightly disappointed. I am usually really good with suspension of disbelief, but the lead character constantly surviving everything that should have killed him just took me out of the movie too much.
Great FLICK CONNECTION Darren. I agree with you 100% on John Wick 4 and as for SISU. An absolutely awesome film, like you said scene for scene, just amazing. Jorma Tommila’s portrayal of this kind of mythical killing machine, obliterating the Nazis is superb. Many thanks for sharing with us. Have a wonderful blessed Christmas 🎄 🎄🎄
Sisu was phenomenal from a cinematography standpoint, but the direction was just bad. It was a really pretty movie with great acting, a potentially great plot, but an utter failure in follow through. MC made continuously bad decisions and the writers/director clearly had no idea how weapons work.
Thanks Darren, love your work. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Much love from Australia.
Huge kudos to you for being a father first, film critic second! Long after Godzilla has faded from general memory, you will still be the awesome dad who listened to his kid.
Agree on being father first! Glad he did tell us the story of watching what he did. Because if he didn't tell that story, everyone who has seen godzilla minus one would have been asking why it's not on the list!! But disagree on Godzilla Minus One fading feom memory. It was an amazing movie and will be around for a long time.
Thanks for the reviews. Definitely a time saver.
Yep, SISU is by far the most thrillingly entertaining film I've seen this year. Inventive, gloriously visceral, and a wonderfully tight runtime. Bonus point for the dog, a very good dog.
Great list! Thank you!
Fantastic list! Love several of these!
Excellent selection. Merci Darren.
The premise at the end of Godzilla Minus One was ridiculous. I agree with you about SISU. That is a movie that Clint Eastwood might have made in the 1970s if he could have. The script, the acting, and the direction were all very tight. One of the best action films I have seen in a while, and it will be ignored by the media and the award societies.
Darren, I would just like to thank you for all the great content this year. You put 2 or 3 dozen great flicks on my radar this year that I would have absolutely missed. Thanks again.
SISU was my greatest surprise this year and a highly enjoyable ride a touch of early Mad Max in there- but highly recommended- excellent film!
Thanks for the demo and info, have a great day
I agree on your picks....including SISU being #1. FUN movie. Thank you for the list. Well done!
From the looks of it, you've got great taste. I've seen only Plane, DnD, Talk to Me, and John wick 4 from your list, and a) I can attest that they were great, and b) the rest seem that they will absolutely be amazing. Thanks for the video, you've got a new follower.
As always, I added a couple to my queue. Sisu sounds amazing!
Gotta say, I’ve seen 80% of your recommendations and I’m fully on board . Great list. About to watch Ballerina because I trust your taste. Keep up the good work.
OH Hey I viewed one of your recommendations Eagle Eye - and loved it ! Great watch
I accidentally stumbled into "They Cloned Tyrone" and was glad I did! Thanks for putting on your list, Darren.
so happy to see Blackberry here. It's one of my favorite movies. awesome list
I really want a serious dungeons and dragons movies. Not just a comedic action. The stories are on par to TLoTR
Sisu was fantastic. Great call out.
Thank You for the List and Video 😀
Sure thing!
I've been recommending Sisu, absolutely loved this film. 2 other films on this list I've got waiting to be watched (7 & 2).
SISU was epic!
Great work thanks
thanks, I just watched Frank and Robot last which I think you recommended. As an older person I loved it, laughing at so many things in the beginning, especially concerning the library.
Hey Darren have you reviewed May December or Leave the World Behind? I'd like to get your take on both, thanks and Merry Christmas🎄🎅
Hey Now Darren! Thanks as always!
Past Lives.
One of the most emotional movies I’ve ever seen in my life. The kind you find yourself thinking about months after watching
It's in my Top 5 of the year for sure. That final scene was brutal.
Great list
I have lots of trouble putting on a new movie, finding something of quality that isn't the generic hollywood movie, I'm at the stage where I don't really watch movies anymore unless they are suggested to me as good movies.
I plan to watch all of these movies, they look great. Thanks for noting where these are available in Australia also!🙂
Darren, going through your Netflix underrated. Liking it. Annnd, when do we get to see The Drop on one of your lists? Hardy and Gandolfini and gangsters? Certainly I've missed your take?? Thanks
Sisu was an awesome movie. Accurate review.😊
Great list🎉
Watched Sisu last night after seeing your video. It was epic!
another great list 🙌
Once again my list matches yours very closely. I did pick up ballerina and will give a try to DD. Sisu was my number 1 as well.
I saw the trailer for Sisu when I saw John Wick 4 in theaters. I wanted to see it immediately. When it came out, I was blown away. One of the best of 2023, imo.
Ballerina is great i totally recommend it....i`d also recommend a couple more Korean films that were released this year...
Kill Bok Soon
The Killer:The Girl Meant To Die
All three have some similar themes and could all be set in the same world ...full of great acting plus the scripts are great all the are full of violence that only Korean films seem to be able to do well(though John Wick comes close)
Some excellent picks - most I have seen but a few I have missed and will catch up in 2024 😉
Happy D&D was mentioned. That film had me at “Jarnathan.” 😂
Other great 2023 movies I recommend are Sound Of Freedom, Guy Ritchie's The Covenant, The Offering, Freelance, The Cobweb, The Last Voyage Of The Demeter and Tetris.
Agree with you on Plane, always great to see Butler. Will definitely give Dungeons a go, thanks for the recommendations!
When my son was 7, I took him and a family friend who was 12 to see Pacific Rim. We *almost* had to leave during a certain scene (if you've seen the movie, you know which one), but I convinced them to stay. Both of them have since admitted it was the most fun they've had in a theater! :)
Congratulations, you scarred your kid for life so that your lazy ass didn't have to leave the theater. Bravo!
The best reviews and lists always
Sisu was one of the best movies I’ve seen all year too! So good! I saw it when it first came out and it was amazing! And I also loved Ballerina, chefs kiss!
I seriously don’t understand the Sisu hype ….
No One Will Save You 2023 was really good. I had to watch it a couple times to really appreciate it.
your reviews are great no the best great work
Great review
Hey man, I'm a big fan of your content (been a subscriber for almost eight years!) Real quick re: Korean names. When you see the letter "J", it's pronounced like "jazz" or "jack". For instance, Jeon Jong-seo (star of Ballerina) is pronounced like this: Jun (hard J, rhymes with "fun") Jong (hard J, rhymes with "song") Seo (rhymes with "ugh"). I hope this helps for future content!!
Wow Sisu was amazing I was a big fan of directors Rare Exports I didn't even know about this one! Just a blast this is how action is done, thanks for recommending!
I watched your #1 after your recommendation. Agreed.
Hello. Great oicks! Would you please recommend something that has great dialogues and funny, so that I can have in the background while cooking? Music is not an answer lol :) Thank you.
You need a Christmas shirt, sir. Thank you very much for all you do for us. 🎅
The live action version of One Piece was a major surprise for me. I'm not usually a manga fan, but the characters are over the top in a fun way and just so likeable.
Thanks man I was curious about suitable also plane was surprisingly decent man
Sisu was definitely a fun movie. I need to Godzilla Minus One, possibly this weekend.
The Artifice Girl
Talk To Me would have been picked by me too.
The Creator
Infinity Pool would also been a choice of mine
If it helps, I have SISU and G MINUS-ONE, respectively, as my top two Best of 2023 picks.
Outstanding as usual.
While not a movie, Blue Eye Samurai did the same that you complimented Ballerina on. Protagonist needing to flee. Excellent show that one too.
Happy Holidays 🎄
Most of these are in my Top 10 for the year, including Godzilla Minus One. Going to watch the only 2 on this list I haven’t seen, Ballerina, and Suitable Flesh.
Could be a fluke thing with the kiddo. I loved the M.J. Fox movie called "The Frighteners" (I think) and one night for some reason it scared the hell out of me. Was watching it a week a later. I am from the VCR era, for the young ones we didnt have the internet back then, so you watched a lot of stuff more than once.
A few movies I haven’t seen that I will have to check out this week that I’m on vacation.
Blue eyed samurai, animated series, on netflix, is amazing, both storyline and outstanding visuals. I'm not an anime fan usually, but this is one of the best things netflix has done.
Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking. 🙂
add 'Scavenger's Reign'
Absolutely love this
8 through 1 are great shouts, but mate, someone was paying you to mention Suitable Flesh! 😄 👍🏻
Personally I saw John Wick 4's 'overly long' to be effective in conveying just how tired he is by the end of it. Been binging your back catalog for the last couple weeks and it's been great stuff.
Would be curious to see some lists for animated films and 'so bad it's good' films.
Wick 3 could have cut a 1/2 hr with the fight at the end. The 4th i thought overall 15 minutes. The fight up the stairway was hillarious! No way on GOD’s green earth could a super hero or John Wick deal with that then have another at the top of the stairs.😮
first time watching you, then i immediately started watching "talk to me", perfect recommendation man. keep up the good work you are the only who actually recommended good movies
Thanks! I post 1 or 2 videos like this each week. Stay tuned or check past episodes for endless recommendations.
Anatomy of a Fall is on my list also. Didn't know about American Fiction.
I've never teared up during any Godzilla movies, but then along comes one of the best, Godzilla Minus One.
Mia Goth is Queen. I saw John Wick 4, Talk To Me, D&D, Infinity Pool, and Sisu in the theaters. Yup, thumbs up to all.
Just watched Sideways, American Splendor, and The Holdovers. So I need a They Cloned Tyrone movie.
Then I'll get to the rest.
happy holidays.
My god i'm soooo glad that you managed to pronounce that Sisu just right 👍👍 😉
SISU was a great movie and it was great to see the same team as Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale getting back to together. Darren if you have not seen Rare Exports then you need to give it a watch.
Black berry, Sisu, Talk to Me are must see! Also "Finestkind" was good!
“Finestkind”
Great thank you - )
Merry Christmas
Sichuan, is SUCH a good movie. Dude doesn't talk much. But excellent movie
Godzilla Minus One (Minus Color) is excellent. American Fiction is also really good. I liked Anatomy of a Fall, but don't have the love for it that many critics seem to.
Great job mate
I would like to know what those flame light tubes are on the desk behind you.

Sisu and the magic trash can. He's holding up a metal circle that covers about 1/3 of his body. The Nazis hit that magic plate about 150 times with automatic fire and not one shell touches the lower half of his body. There is so much awesome in this movie, but scenes like that really let me down. All they had to do to fix that scene was have him retreating down a slope or ditch side where you could reasonably block a significant amount of incoming fire. You'd never be able to hold the stupid thing anyways as that many rounds were hitting it, but whatever. The eagles never caught fire in Mt. Doom, either, and we all loved that, too.
My brother and I are two years apart. My dad took us to see Omega Man when we were 12 and 10 and my brother freaked out so we had to leave halfway through. I didn’t see the end for years until it appeared on HBO.
Just watched mayhem. Loved the hatchet flicks. Holiday Cheers and safety😊
Ballerina is the best recommendation on this list..was absolutely blown when I saw it
There hasn’t been a Shockingly good movie for years, and you came up with 10 in 2023 alone, magic.
I also liked “Renfield,” totally surprised me.
SISU is an absolute blast!
I absolutely loved, loved Sisu!
I remember watching Dungeons & Dragons as an 80's cartoon. I had no idea it was made into a game. And I've yet to check out the movie. That's one for this Saturday night me thinks 😉
Ummm. Well I haven’t seen SISU. But I am very intrigued to see it and definitely going to watch it this weekend to find out why u put that over Ballerina!! 😢🤨
I sstopped going to the cinema a few years ago because of the direction Hollywood was going, but this list looks fantastic: films that out to entertain, not preach, so I'll be clicking and subscribing and checking out everything.( except D&D, I'll replace that with Godzilla Minus One).
At this point if any new movie is any good at all, it’s a surprise.
❤that shirt!
sisu and Infinity Pool are 2 of fav films from last year, Also another great Aussie film is "Godless: The Eastfield Exorcism" based on a True story it was a surprise for low budget "Horror" that delivers, calling it a horror is also doing the film a disservice ... def seek it out
