    That spool sounds amazing. I can’t wait to switch out mine on my LB7
    Did it come with new hardware?

    • @FixedVaneDuramax
      @FixedVaneDuramax  Před 5 lety

      No it did not come with any extra hardware, I got a install kit (gasket kit) from my local shop. Other than that I reused all my exhaust bolts and the bolts that hold the turbo to the block.

    sounds good! what made you go with the WoldFab vs the other options?

    • @FixedVaneDuramax
      @FixedVaneDuramax  Před 5 lety

      Good question... if you look at a lot of the drop in charger options on the market they are very similar, basically a rebuilt or new IHI center cartridge, ported exhaust housing, and a new 63-64mm billet wheel. They tend to range in price from $1100-$2400, so some of it came down to pricing. I didn't feel like paying $500-800 more for essentially the same or equivalent turbo.
      I also have been talking with Tom at Woldfab off and on for the last few months about some other things as well, he seems like a really genuine guy and I wanted to support his business. Apart from that I searched out a few different guys who I knew were running his turbos and no one had anything but great reviews to give me about them so I was confident I was going to get a quality part.
      The only other turbo I was really wanting was a Fleece Cheetah purely because they just sound so good with their s300 base and inconel turbine wheel, but at $2300 give or take I just couldn't justify spending almost $1000 more for the same horsepower gain.

      Fixed Vane Duramax okay cool thats what i was thinking, i haven’t been able to find many reviews on dans diesel performance, or lincoln’s diesel specialities for specifically the LB7 drop in turbos, and those are my exact thoughts on the fleece, your practically only paying for sound. it would be great to hear some more sound clips when you get the chance! it’s too bad there are literally no sound clips on these turbos

    I’ve been looking at a Ryan’s diesel and ddp 64mm super core turbo - any major difference with a complete aftermarket turbo exhaust

      I am going to assume that both of these units are very similar, I have not ran either one myself. Both of them utilize your oem exhaust housing and simply bolt up, so its a cheap way to upgrade your current charger to a 64mm if you have a healthy exhaust housing. Now that being said since you are reusing your oem housing you wont get the benefit of a ported exhaust housing, which from my own experience does indeed make a difference in overall air flow and top end power ability. I dynoed a completely stock turbo at 511/972, then did a turbo rebuild, and ported/polished the exhaust housing while maintaining the oem compressor wheel. That new charger setup with nothing else changed was able to make 565/1164 on the same dyno. So the exhaust housing upgrades definitely make a difference as well. Not to say a Super Core is a bad idea by any means, if you are willing to do the work of swapping charger cores (which is very easy to do) then bang for buck its a good way to upgrade the oem turbo.

    Can I run this turbo with a stock trans and everything else stock without hurting my truck?

    • @FixedVaneDuramax
      @FixedVaneDuramax  Před 5 lety

      Technically yes, you can throw it on and baby it. But I guarantee you it wont take long and either you will want to be able to use the power the truck has the potential for, or you will have ended up limping the transmission. I always recommend building the drivetrain and supporting modifications first, then add the power. It's not the fun way to do things, but it will keep the truck on the road and money in your wallet.

      Cool thanks man so I’m new to building trucks what all do I need to do besides upgrading transmission, input shard and output shaft, and injectors?

    • @FixedVaneDuramax
      @FixedVaneDuramax  Před 5 lety

      Totally depends what your power goals are. The stock duramax bottom ends can generally stand up to 6-650 hp or so, some guys get away with 700s for awhile before it lets go and they have to do a full motor build. If you are looking for a fun, reliable truck you can build the transmission with stock shafts, get a new turbo, and have it tuned with efi live and itll be high 500s to mid 600s all day long.
