- Since people asked for a Katalina video, here it is. Didn't manage to get no damage this time and honestly she doesn’t feel like a character designed to not take damage since her main source of damage, the Ares coordinated triangle combo is all about using its super-armor property to soak up hits as she continues to do damage. Anyway, hopefully this is a decent showcase of how Katalina works in Relink.
Essentially, Katalina has a Ares gauge that can be filled half a bar at a time, her combo finishers (triangle attack) can all be used to fill her gauge a varying amount depending on which one you use. Interestingly enough, after using Enchanted Lands and Frozen Blade skills, you can also do a follow-up triangle attack to fill Ares' gauge, remember this, it'll be important later. Personally my favorite ways to do this are the following ones:
1. the 1 square into 1 triangle combo since it has the least amount of recovery at the end allowing you to go immediately into your next combo
2. the 3 square into 1 triangle combo since it cover the most amount of ground when you need to chase something down while still building your gauge
3. the full combo that fills the bar exactly half way as long as you land the last 2 attacks in the string
4. the triangle follow-up to Enchanted Lands and Frozen Blade I've mentioned, it gives almost half a bar so you can fill the rest with another 1 square into 1 triangle combo
Once your Ares gauge is full, the next time you do the following action Ares will be summoned: Link attack, any combo finisher that use the triangle button, any of her skills, and her SBA and this is where things start to get interesting. With Ares summoned, normally he'll disappear after doing one coordinated action, however, if your next action is also one that'd trigger coordination from Ares, Ares will continue to stay on the field and thus prolonging Ares's field time without having to fill the gauge again. This brings us to the next point, Katalina's main source of damage, her Ares coordinated triangle attack combo.
When Ares is on the field, Katalina has access to a long coordinated triangle attack combo that gives her super armor while her feet are touching the ground when she's doing the attack animation, however you cannot follow-up a coordinated triangle combo with the same combo, and here's where Enchanted Lands (also seems to gain some super armor while Ares is summoned) and Frozen Blade become especially useful, remember how I said these two skills can be followed up with a triangle attack? This also works when Ares is on the field, this means you can use these two skill to extend your Ares duration by going back into another set of coordinated triangle combo. So as an example, your Ares combo can look like this.
Enchanted Lands - T(triangle) finisher - 1S(square) 1T(this bring your gauge to half) - full S combo into T(this gives you full gauge) - link attack(this now summons Ares) - Coordinated T combo - Frozen Blade - Coordinated T combo - Enchanted Lands - Coordinated T combo - Light Wall(this doesn't lead into another T combo so you must use another skill that can) - Frozen Blade - Coordinated T combo...and so forth.

See this is why I hate those peeps who call this game "too simple" when there is hidden depth for each character so you can optimize them to their full power. The better term is "low skill entry, high skill ceiling" coz anyone can just mash with Katalina and eventually build that Ares gauge but great Katalina players know how to optimize their rotation for max Ares uptime.
Like I've seen so many Io players do the long charge cast spell when theres actually a trick to make it cast faster by chaining it with one of your spells first.
Yah man, I’m not going to lie but honestly I wasn’t expecting much when I first downloaded the demo. At most I thought it’d just be like a dynasty warrior type of game that good for some hack and slash fun time, but there’s actually a surprising amount of unique mechanic to each character and I really appreciate the thought they put into these kits. Like sure, the game might not be DMC with a huge amount of skill expression, but it’s certainly not a game that’s too simple.
.......that's not what a high skill ceiling is.
Anyone can mash, and also anyone can do this.

@@swifti1001 I actually don't disagree with you in the sense that it doesn't take much motor skill on the players' part to pull this off. However, it does take a certain amount of game knowledge and understanding of game mechanic to be able to keep Ares summoned for extended period of time, now whether or not you call such things player skills is up to you.
On the other hand, I do feel this game has more room for player expression than say a dynasty warrior game, not only is the timing for perfect guard extremely tight it rewards you with stun build up, the system that allow you to dodge and not interrupt your combo also gives you a lot of freedom on changing your position and attack timing. If you spend some more time with the game I think you'll find it's really not a game where you just mash buttons like you might think.
@@ogopogo1109 Well, knowledge isn't considered skill in action games to most people, hence the original comment about people calling it a simple game.
I've played enough of the game to know there isn't much going on for the combat. I'm just hoping endgame has a fleshed out status effect system like the mobile game. If they do that correctly, that could singlehandedly change the whole game from being a simple button masher.
So glad you made this. Because Ive seen people sleeping on her and I'm like, if this is what she can do early in the game, she's definitely going to be a favorite!
she's so strong its hilarious, her and lancealot with combo 3 on are really insane if they can just be left to their devices which they have the tools for themselves.

If you can learn Kat's chain well with combo 3 and atk 3 and stam 3. you can take top honor in every rock fight. Ive gotten honor over Charlotte's narma's only one that can compete with me is a really good yoda cause of how much dmg that lil dude can ignore that im just healing through lol.

I tried Katalina against Rock Golem with no AIs to learn her got to 10% HP Left before time ran out. I Notice a Perfect Dodge also keeps Ares longer she really is all about perfect timing has the highest skill level of all the characters so far in the Demo cant wait for the full game to play Cagliostro
that's really interesting, I lost Ares a few time after a normal dodge so I thought she'd just lose him if you dodge, I'll definitely test out perfect dodge now, thanks for the tip!
@@ogopogo1109 NP I did only play her for 2 runs so I can always be wrong for now I'll learn her after the full game drops when we get more skills and traits to use at a better level

How did you avoid the hit at 2:37? I was practicing with Katalina as well and I also noticed sometimes I just don't take damage while doing the Ares combo.
yah, it happend at 0:43 too, I think some of the red ground AOE attacks don't seem to hit you when you're in the air sometime, but I've also tried to manually jump to avoid them and gotten hit for the effort, so I'm not sure exactly why sometimes you don't take damage like that. Also I know for a fact that when Katalina's in the air during the Ares combo she doesn't have super armor and can be knocked out of the combo by regular attacks from the enemy...it's quite a mystery to me as well tbh.
does enchanted lands has parry frames? Amazing explaination, initially I was hyped for her but then disappointed by ares beeing so short, but here you are showing us the opposite, cool that it can be extended so much.
it seems to have super armor frames when Ares is active, you still take damage but will not get interrupted. If you're asking about the first enchanted lands I did, I perfect blocked and then used enchanted lands.

The game is like
A combination of
Tales of Series + Monster Series
Characters design, the world, monsters are somewhat like the Tales of Series
While the battle mechanics are closer to Monster Hunter series, well not entirely but it's still a mix of Talea of and Monster Hunter
Yah I can see that, the skills and overall looks reminds me of Tales while the hub and mission structure with a focus on multiplayer end game reminds me of Monster Hunter as well

I'm not really a huge fan of MH, but I was kinda thinking that, I hope someday there would be a game like MH that somewhat close to Tales of game

Tales are usually about chaining artes together and until arise, it didn't have perfect dodge as a mechanic. It's more YS in this regard but I guess tales is way more mainstream than ys.

Katalina might be my favorite one, because Ares joining the battle kinda reminds me of Rika in jujutsu kaisen lol
i'm glad about the extra info in the description. I thought it felt strange how quickly ares was disappearing for me, definitely felt like i was playing her wrong.

Really curious what your sigil priorities have been, because I can't get 3 minutes on Golem. I think the fastest was about 4 and some change.
For the demo there aren’t really many choices yet, for damage you have attack damage, combo master, critical, stamina and tyranny to name a few and for specific character like Katalina and Gran that focus on using their skill a lot, the cooldown reduction Sigil is great too. What I’m really excited about are the ones we have seen yet, there’s a lot of possibilities for cool ideas when it comes to these type of passive bonuses, can’t wait for the full game to come out!
@@ogopogo1109 From what I can see from gameplay of endgame you get something like 10 sigil slots and that doesn't even account for the stacking weapon passives either.
Yeah. Your approach is about what I've been doing as well, but I've been playing with the element side; though I'm not really convinced it matters that much at the moment. The demo makes no mention of it at all.
Either way I'm excited nonetheless. I really like good single player companion AI that makes everything feel like an actual party; FFXV and now this with all the in combat banter and call outs. Definitely helps that the AI doesn't just stand around gawking, lol.
Combo master, atk(or tyranny if your feeling edgey) and stam gives you the highest yield of damage on combo heavy chars like kat lance yoda and charlotte
What was your sigil setup I want to try this for myself as well
cooldown reduction 3, combo master 3, and critical rate increase 3 for Katalina, the AIs are rocking tyranny, stamina, attack power, and the rest of combo master and critical rate 2s or 3s, don’t forget to change weapons to ones with higher attacks.
Not a fan of games with lots of screen spam, but if there were options to turn them off, I'd love to try it.
I know exactly what you mean, I know some people like flashy effect but I much prefer better visibility myself as well…sadly so far I can’t find an option for turning down effects in the demo.

Seriously, though, my issue is with continuing Ares after SBA. I need to make sure I don't summon him before SBA and keep my gauge full, because if your teammates screw you by triggering their chains first after you summoned him, you can end up losing him, and after using SBA with gauge full to cast Visions Divine, he also doesn't give me the chance to extend him, he just goes away. I'm assuming you can't use a triangle combo after SBA and must instead use Frozen Blade,etc?
I also hate when that asshole golem decides to jump away just as Ares comes out LOL or the little earth shard adds decide to throw a stun wave my way.
You can actually use 1 square 1 triangle then go into Ares combo after the SBA, I only figured this out a few days ago, hope that helps with keeping Ares around!
This strangely reminds me of Fate/Extela gameplay
Yah, it does have some similarity, but I think the combat dynamic feels pretty different since the game's bosses seem to take more from MMO raids and you kind of have to approach them slightly differently

對、阿瑞斯叫出來之後 只要你下一個動作能夠觸發協同他就不會消失。基本上Link攻擊、阿瑞斯協同重攻擊跟所有的技能都可以用。
可是協同重攻擊不能直接接回協同重攻擊、所以中間要穿插施展後能接著觸發協同重攻擊的技能。試玩版裡可以用的是冰劍跟突進技2招、Link攻擊、還有叫出阿瑞斯當下的重攻擊之後都能接。
@@ogopogo1109 簡單來說就是,阿瑞斯交出來後不停協同攻擊直到最後一下,接著放技能,無限重複,大概是這樣吧?
沒錯👍 協同攻擊跟攻擊技能交互用召喚就不會斷 另外協同攻擊的最後一下是卡特跟阿瑞斯畫出一個X型的那一段、打出來之後就要放攻擊技能才能再打一輪協同。

為什麼我的不會有召喉角色在旁?
要先集滿右手邊那條藍色的技能槽喔、然後下一個會觸發召喚角色協同攻擊的動作就會把他叫出來。 如果要讓他持續在場上的話就要攻擊技能跟協同重攻擊連段交互著用。

I do not believe this is real you don't receive damage even one time, although you should. You're using the full assist mode and pretend you're actually dodging. That's cheating.
I don’t know what to tell you man. You can see my button inputs on the UI on screen. If it looks like I should take damage but don’t, then it’s either because of the invulnerability buff Katalina has or the mirror image buff from Yoda.

I used it, you can't get any damage, you become invincible. It's easy to fake it with using button inputs nontheless.
