    Ready bands are often cheaper, but seldomly precisely as one likes them. Your ways are the best investment including templates. Wise decision.
    Any shooter should make their own bands like we fill our own cartridges with powder. Part of mastership. You are the MASTER, hands down.

    I also love the extremely useful constictor knot, for many things.For slingshots, I've placed several constrictor knots on a wide diameter plastic drinking straw . When I'm ready to use them on the slingshot bands, I partially insert a band into the drinking straw, and slide off the knot onto the
    band, and it's ready to use to bind with the folded over small portion of the band at the pouch. EZ-PZ.
    They call me "THWACK!"

    Absolute legend mate a great video. I always tie my constricter knot but singe right up to the knot. Need to pick up a classic at some point from you pal. Love my titan hunter you kindly made for me. I find it most accurate and would not be without it. I use orange fish tackling cord, very true about fatigue in the fingers. Only shoot 8 or 7mm steel. GKJ mentioned that the way you hold the ball in the pouch is so important and of course he is spot on. I suffer from the bump on release.

  • @greggcorbett9344
    @greggcorbett9344 Před 3 lety +1

    I'm using Airflo micro poly backing and singe the ends to stop it fraying. I singe the ends of serving when working on my compound bow string so it kinda seemed the right thing to do! If I could think of a way to use my wrist release it would eliminate the need to pinch the pouch. My goal is defo accuracy - I hate missing! Great video Chris :)

  • @cubotpowerphip834
    @cubotpowerphip834 Před 3 lety +11

    1.0mm band is way over what is needed even for heavy setups imo.
    0.75 to 0.8mm thick band is the maximum needed imo with tapers between 28-18 and 25-20 matched to 10mm lead to maintain any type of comfort and accuracy whilst shooting. 28-18 being my preferred taper with heavy ammo.
    For repetitive shooting there is no way to beat a lighter setup. More quality practice time = better form = better repeatable accuracy. Anyone who would argue that has never shot at competition level
    I think the band/ammo arguments get silly sometimes. There are trade offs with everything in life, ammo and bands are no different.
    Good honest info. Good channel.

    Class vid as always Chris I myself use the constrictor knot on my pouch end and I use orvis fly line backing as its made from dacron and won't damage the band i melt the ends on it as I have done it using outher materials and found that if I didn't melt the ends the knot would either completely come undone on the draw or the band would slip over a few shots but at the same time I don't over tighten the knot as I find it increases wear on the band at the point the knot was tied

  • @ralphchurch529
    @ralphchurch529 Před 3 lety +1

    Hi. I tie my pouches using the double turn constrictor knot for the simple reason that it gives a slightly wider grip on the band. It's more secure than the single turn and is less likely to cut into the band as you tighten it which can cause a weak spot I've found. To tie it, after you've made the x follow the line around again and then pass it over the standing part, under the two loops and up under the third loop at the top. This forms a cross under the overlaying wraps and is held in place much more securely. I think it also puts less stress on the band's as it's tightened and therefore less likely to roughen the band surface causing a potential weak spot. Like you, I do also singe the ends to seal it but I use Marlow whipping twine rather than 550 inner as it's a waxed thread which helps with weatherproofing. This is just my way and thought I'd share it with you as a thank you for all the help and tips you've given us all in all other aspects of the sport. Regards. Ralph.

    well I only had 30 lb dacron flyline backing but I just ran 100 shots through my very first set of bands made by me.. and the constrictor knot is awesome.. dacron can't be welded with a lighter so it's not singed n that had no effect at all either.. used 06 percise with 8mm steel 22 to 12 taper having only ever used .07 simpleshot bands n this shot way harder and the smaller double dimpled pouches all brought my accuracy n consistency way up from the jump!!! thank you for all the info.. between you n gamekeeper John im well on my way.. n i will own frames from both of you!!!!

    Damn you are fantastic at this stuff, & I really appreciate the effort & outcome of your work here.As far as burning the ends of the string...you may or may not like this method....to avoid taking the chance of messing up my job by slipping with the lighter at that critical moment, I heat up the end of whatever piece of suitable metal I have & melt the ends with the hot metal instead of the open flame too close to my work...takes a hair longer but not much...thats just me though.

    Hi Chris, you are an outstanding teacher, but even more practitioner of these fine arts.I have simple comments and simple questions.
    CATAPULT or some call it, slingshot in the wrong hands can turn into a deadly weapon. Bible says so. The question, will a powerful catapult kill a deer? Wild hog?

      Probably with the correct bands and ammo but I would not recommend it
