    I've been shooting for a good 3 weeks and I thin what's been said here is spot on. The first sling I got was one of those with green and red fiber optics. They're good when you're training yourself as a beginner just so you'll have some kind of reference. Unfortunately, mine broke off within 2 days because the frame was made of resin. So I was forced to train myself without the optics it came with. And through all those accumulated hours of shooting, and in-between re loading mudballs and brain processing, I 've learned so far. The fundamentals of the stance, body angling, the anchor point, minimizing the head tilt just enough to see the bands in parallel, breathing and making micro adjustments. It came down to one single point reference where the 2 bands aligned together pointing to that target. I think it's better to learn them correctly the first weeks before the motions get hardwired instead of having to unlearn them later on.

      You’ve definitely been putting the practice in the right way! It’s not just about standing and randomly firing balls, hoping to get better. It’s paying attention to every small detail with each shot. Practicing perfect practice. Fair play 👍

    Just started in this world. I've watched a few tutorials, and followed the advice to buy a basic, not too expensive catapult. The one I've purchased has all the scope sights in the package. I decided almost immediately that I was not going to bother with them. Having watched your tutorial, and many others, I'm glad I just went out into the back garden and practised with the basic setup.
    I was able to hit a target from around 10m distance. Okay, it was 20cm by 40cm, and I don't know exactly where I hit it, as I was using clay balls. Nevertheless, I was as pleased as punch to have managed that on the first shot. Thank you so much to you, and the many others that have shared the experience and knowledge they have gained over the years.

    Right on my man 👍 I just got my 1st band slingshot with 2 bad ass looking "optics" sights with the fiber optic elevation indicators and a bubble level and I find it distracting to be honest 🤷 But I think after you have your basic understanding about minding ammo position in the pouch with your finding your anchor points, keep it all squared up and the same ol
    routine as the rest of the deadly dark arts CONSISTENCY and REPETITION as we all learn as kids, practice makes perfect with everything right down the line 😉 I made my 1st slingshot back when bart simpson was a formidable marksman. Been shooting slingshots along with many other types of ranged weapons and I find slingshot/catapulting very similar to archery in many of the basic fundamentals and schools of thought where for me the mental aspect is gotta be 85-90% of putting your ammo EXACTLY where u want it and when you get in the groove you almost can't miss. I wish I had how many shots I've taken with the deadly slingshot 🤔 if you don't mind reading a bit more I can share a few of my all time greatest slingshot hits 🎯 if your interested? But I must warn you RIGHT NOW! I don't care if your dad runs peta or you believe in things you can't understand if u do too damn bad. I'm not proud of some of my actions but I have a good reason for the things I do.. I'm not a monster 😊 Way back many MANY moons i was probably 7. And there was a bunch a kids in my neighborhood, kids used to spend most of there time outside where I come from and I was outside too, just like everyone else and I'm in my backyard practicing my slingshot skills knowing 100yrs later I'll still be goofing around with my silly slingshots right 🤭 well this kid named... We're gunna call him Michael G. or 🤔 M gaffareeli. 🤔 or some shit? Well he wasn't minding his business at all. Riding his bike up n down the street messing around with anyone he could torment.. well my backyard where I was (being good 👍 minding my business 😊) to the center line of the street was I'd say 120ft or so, nice sized lots, perfect neighborhood well until Micheal G hits the streets with bad intentions well he barks out while lurking by BET YOU CANT HIT ME! and in my mind I'm sure he announced some insensitive blasphemy, so I figured I'd call his goddamn bluff right? Now fellas.. where all gentleman here and we're all adults now Id hope right.. well c'mon guys I was like 8 yrs old. We all did weird shit sometimes right? Plus I figured the street is under attack by this lone terrorist M mcgaffatello.. So I chose a proper stone since there happened to literally be a few choice rocks at my feet and not exactly pebbles i liked stones I could get a good hold of thru the pouch, I readily prepared my stance-carefully placed my ammo/healthy chunk of solid earth this hunker of a tiny boulder of a rock and here is comes riding right in my path of launch... I had him figured for where he would be as far as his height, speed, the over distance since my window of opportunity is slim 🧐due to only having a sec or 2 I'd have eyes on this MOVING target named Mikey G 😮 Well he was right in the middle of SINGING LOUDLY 📢 BBBEEETTT YYYOOUUU CCCAA I got myself lined up ok for jumping into position and that little ecu between our ears with flawless efficiency does its thing and that perfect shot when all the math and physics works I raised up drew and released with the intuitive style id adopt and come to hone and trust decades later and 😠 release------ 💥 sounded like hitting a thick hollow tree 🤯AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!! 😭. 😮OOOHHH SHHHHHIIIIII I beamed him right in the dome 😮.. Now u ever do something that took action in doing like it was us that thinks about it and then we do it AND RIGHT AWAY u realize the gravity of your actions..way before before I saw the rock fly as soon as I released it just felt like it couldn't miss and GODDAMNIT it was dead nuts zeroed for the kill shot 😮 he went down of his bike and he was boogying since he was asking for this tragic perfect shot to be part of his life and he got what he asked for.. I bet me n him both learned lessons that day.. He took it like a champ and took it the best a human could with getting the skull shattered like a cheap pinyata. He legit got shot in head with a beefy rock while peddling his ass off basically demanding this happen to him like a dummy. He got up and forgot he was riding a bike and ran home jumping around and now shouting a new kinda song to saraned the whole goddamn neighborhood with now remember I'm like 7 maybe 8 and I was a rookie in the arts. People forget sometimes that a projectile covering ground fast enough is no different from a cannon ball or a slow bullet and I can guarantee you he never tried to challenge the affectivness of a dumb kid with his cheapo homemade slingshot... Now I gotta it down.. I have many more TRUE incredible shots thru-out the years and also being lucky and blessed enough to have the correct skillet to have the humble slingshot save my life and sadly be forced to "educate" a mad poisonous dangerous abomination of a beast in a battle to the death for the safety of the community and for the protection and overall well being of goddamn school children !!! after my horrendous action I'm sure I was properly reprimanded for what I have done to poor Mac g and probably apologized... I don't really remember him being around as much after that but I'm sure by now hes a positive member of society and lives a real nice productive life, and nothing bad ever happened to him again.. 👏. I didn't think I'd actually pull a magic one in a million shot like that.. its 90 percent Jedi mind power and 10 percent constantly practicing FOREVER😊

    Excellent. I raised this question recently on another video ,I think one of those GKZ frames with the adjustable optics ?
    Because I was struggling to understand how the adjustment would work without throwing your natural line out ? Especially on an OTT frame . I can see the logic in using one on the very tip like you have yours though ,where do you get hold of fibre optic wire ? I might experiment on a old frame with thinner bands and some super glue action.

    • @CattyShackHunter
      @CattyShackHunter  Před 5 lety +1

      guzgrant you’ll be able to dial in an adjustable optic to a set range, but yeah you’re right, essentially it’s throwing the ball out of line, so it will only be useful at that distance. No good for hunting. This optic was put on by TBSlingshots, the guy who made the frame for me, so I don’t know where he got it I’m afraid mate.

    What would you say to professional compound archers using multiple optics? It's the same principle
    I use multiple optics as do others with good success. I agree that you also need to learn your trajectories and distances. Optics when used correctly can be very efficient reference points.

    • @CattyShackHunter
      @CattyShackHunter  Před 5 lety +1

      Catapult Carnage for set distances you can learn them, but for a hunting purpose I don’t see their use. There’s never a set range or height, and there’s always an in between. To cater for all distances you’d need so many optics you’d clutter your vision and spend more time looking for the correct one. And then that’s assuming you’ve estimated the distance correctly. In my opinion, far better to use just one for hunting applications.

    • @CatapultCarnage
      @CatapultCarnage Před 5 lety +1

      @@CattyShackHunter you've said there they dont work. They do work, for all distance shooting, hunting or targets whatever, I've used them in all applications. Its perfectly fine not to like them but to say they don't work isn't true. I can see why with you're aiming technique that you wouldn't get on with them because it's not true 90° aiming.
      It's instead of guessing hold over you have another reference or two.

    • @CattyShackHunter
      @CattyShackHunter  Před 5 lety

      Catapult Carnage I hear what you’re saying, but I still don’t agree they’re the best option for hunting situations. There’s no multi optic that’s going to work reliably for hunting situations, there’s just too many variables.

      There’s absolutely no answer for this mate. There’s far too many factors to take into consideration. Anchor point, strength of band, draw length, size of ammo, weather conditions. We’re all different. The only way to learn it is familiarisation with your set-up, stick to one thing and learn it inside out. Repeated practice at varying ranges every time you go out. Just shooting straight targets at 10m you’ll nothing other than how to shoot that target. Shoot up, shoot down, shoot at angles, shoot at varying ranges, it’s the only way to learn.

    I’ve not bothered with an optic. And if I ever bothered to it would be one used only as an extension of looking down the bands ott.
    With regards to the comments relating to archery and using optics it’s totally different, you have the space to accommodate a sight that remains well out of the way of the arrow. The sites on compound bows are personally dialled into the specific distance. The bow sights allow for moving the sight up, down, left, right , forward and backwards....but these are for specific target competition distances and even then you find you have to fine tune your sight depending on varying wind conditions....and arrow types.
    If you were using the same bow sight for hunting it would be pointless as you don’t know the distance.
    In competitions where set distances are used it would be possible to use optics on a catapult, but for hunting there’s too many split second variables...this is where experience comes in.
    I see a catapult/ slingshot like a long bow.......simple, naked and effective only through practice.
    You can’t compare the compound bow site to a catapult optic ,compounds bows are so adaptable.....and can hide a lot of a technique faults to some degree.
    But different things work for different people....but for me like a longbow I keep it pure and simple.
    Great video and lovely dog.

    For OTT ....I think just putting a tape or mark some horizontal lines on the inside face of the fork tip should give a much better elevation/distance marker options.... rather than offset optics!?

      It still wouldn’t work. The catapult obscures what you’re aiming at when you hold over, unless you shoot both eyes open (I do) That being the case, you still can’t focus on two things at once. The target at distance, and the measurement lines 3 feet away on the catapult. So any aiming device needs to be able to be clear enough to be seen in your peripheral vision. Temperature also changes the performance of bands constantly, so balls strike higher or lower on what can be a daily basis sometimes, especially in winter. They simply don’t work. Everybody’s trajectory is also different, depending on weight of ball, strength of band, length of draw. A single optic is the only way, in my opinion, if you must have one.

      @@CattyShackHunter Yes, true....there are just too many variables in hunting ......as even functionally, it would only potentially work if the fork tip are held in a true vertical position...so the bands would become the vertical cross hair.... and then horizontal lines could be seen and act as a kind of... half black out scope =l if that makes sense.
      However might be good for fixed or field target work

      Cody Mould I’ve got a build going on at the moment that will be up for sale when it’s done. It’s my Evo design, which is the upgraded version of this. I’ve no plans to put an optic on it at the moment though.
